They just played a Linda Ronstadt one hour special on Entertainment Weekly's SIRIUSXM radio show (which was very good, btw), and I hadn't heard "I Can't Let Go" from Mad Love in years. What a spectacular song! Does anyone know if that's Linda herself doing both parts of the combined chorus, or if it is Rosemary Butler and Nicolette Larson? I always thought the latter, but after hearing it just now, I think it may be all Linda?

Yes indeed. And had fate been kinder to Linda's fellow road warrior Nicolette, she would be celebrating her 64th birthday on this very day.

The combined vocals are both Linda. What do you mean Mikey? Linda sings both the chorus main lines and background also. eddiejinnj

Yes. The dual chorus parts are both sung by Linda, that is- until the final "I Can't Let Go", sung by all.

I would have to listen for that. I believe at least in Nicolette's case that she did the backgrounds throughout the song. Are you sure? Never heard this. Good discussion item. eddiejinnj

It is absolutely a duet w Linda and Nicolette. Rosemary adds backing. Linda and nic can sound very similar. I love their version of " You're Running Wild" on a Nicolette album. By the way Bette and Lindasound so much alike I cannot always tell them apart on "Sisters"

That imo is indicative of how much she had control of her instrument that being her voice. She can use it to sound like human voices and sounds as well as instruments; most notably the ending of "Ooh Baby Baby." People who haven't listened to "Odin" by John Stewart with Linda in the background prominently (kick butt vocals). One comment on youtube seems correct. She is channeling her stevie nicks voice. She did it with Ann too regarding her tight harmonies. they just blend together. You are so right re: "Sisters" vocals. I was so happy they did the duet together when I heard about it then heard it. They seem to be really rejoicing Rosemary. eddiejinnj

hmmm. I had no problem distinguishing Linda from Bette. I thought Linda was purposely toned down to make Bette more upfront.
The only time I ever really had a hard time distinguishing Linda's voice from anyone was on some of the duets with Ann Savoy. Some were obvious but others weren't. I am in my can't remember what I did yesterday mode otherwise I would point out the most confusing ones at least to me.

I really was agreeing that the harmonies were tight on "Sisters". There are a few moments especially when they sing "sisters" that they sound quite alike. Another example, as I said, of Linda conforming her voice to match the task. eddiejinnj

On "Sisters" who sings the solo line "I'm here to keep my eye on her" I think it's Linda but if it is she is making her voice sound SO much like Bette's. It's that uncanny talent she has for blending her voice in duets.

I really can't tell where Linda begins and Laurie Lewis ends and vice-versa. I think it's in such an unusual (bluegrassy) style and also because of what Linda fan 4 said about Linda's voice that resembles a color adaptive lizard ( I can't spell chameleon)
