This must be the most terrible year in pop history in terms of lifes lost of significant artists. Prince was perhaps the greatest artist of the 1980's, if there is such a thing. RIP.

devastating loss.
Yesterday here in the UK we also lost one of our most favourite female TV personalities/writer/comedians - those of you from USA probably won't know her (Victoria Wood), but its been an awful two days for losing talented people at far too early an age . . .

This is stunning news. When I saw the Subject line of this thread, my whole body shivered. What a loss. He was a genius.
I liked "Purple Rain" very much, but I loved the album that accompanied his follow-up film, "Under the Cherry Moon." "Girls and Boys." "You Need Another Love Like You Need a Hole in Your Head." "Sometimes It Snows in April."
Rest in Peace, Prince. --

Totally unexpected, but then I guess they all are...and will be. I'm a big fan of Prince, always loved his singing, and especially his guitar playing. From his RRHOF Induction in 2004, he nailed the guitar solo at the end of this George Harrison tribute. Note George's son playing Acoustic Guitar: RIP Prince.

His popularity (as Bowie's) was beyond me but I know how music can be such a personal thing so I feel bad for everyone who feels that loss. What he added to your lives is to be celebrated. Madonna said Prince changed the world (not sure how he did that) so I am trying to understand. Except for Linda I have never held celebrities in awe and my awe for Linda is not so much from her music but rather her persona, her heart. So maybe that is what others are feeling about Prince. It's all quite fascinating to me. RIP although no one really dies.

It was very surprising when I read the news online that Prince had died. But it didn't hit me like it may have for others here. But I respect what Prince and his music meant for so many people, and they should be able to mourn his loss and celebrate his life and music the way they wish too. Linda on the other hand....I am in awe of her as well, and she means so much to me in so many different ways.

When I saw earlier today that Prince had died, I thought back to the recent story in the news about Prince's plane having to make an emergency stop so that Prince could be rushed to the hospital. I thought that was just a little too coincidental as the stories hinted Prince was at death's door. But, it was said he was suffering from the flu although the dark demons of the news media, those who thrive on controversy by reveling in the dirt, have already suggested that Prince's emergency stop was the result of a drug overdose. And the dark demons of the news media are determined that Prince's death will be another sad death from an overdose, despite the fact no autopsy has yet been done. Perhaps the news media hopes for another Michael Jackson-like death and circus, although Prince was nowhere as weird as what Jackson had been. Whatever the cause of death, another musical giant has left the world and my fear is who's next.

RIP although no one really dies. Rob what you wrote actually reminds me of a line in one of Princes' songs "Sign O The Times.. " Some say a man ain't happy, truly Until a man truly dies." I remember my brother Phil went to see the Rolling Stones in 1981 oe 82 (Before he was popular) Prince was their opening act. my brother said he came out on stage with only a G String (lol) angry Stone fans threw tomatoes at him and boo'd Prince off the stage... he didn't even finish his set.. Guess that audience in 1981 wasn't quite ready for "The Purple One." I absolutely loved this man.. Madonna is the only one left from that era .. Michael J.. Whitney and now Prince.. RIP

But it was known that he was very health conscious and particular about what went in to his body... he was also a vegetarian... and he was athletic and despite his small stature of 5'2" was a very good basketball player..

Looks like prescription drugs may have taken Prince down. Specifically percocet/oxycodone or something like it. Prince should never have been allowed to be left alone since his hospital event earlier that week. He may have had an addiction because of his earlier hip replacement. I know so many people on pain killers it isn't funny. I've chosen to live with my pain which isn't always easy but when you read the side effects on those drugs it's enough to throw you into cardiac arrest. I think one of the symptoms of oxycodone addiction is breathing problems. That is why he was rushed to the hospital after making an emergency landing. That has to be an awful way to die. Real shame. No fun growing old sometimes.

Rob, Prince also had two hip replacements. Van Jones, who served in the Obama administration and who was a friend of Prince, cautioned last night on "Real Time With Bill Maher" that we don't know yet what happened with Prince. Bill Maher had made a statement similar to what you said, Rob. I think you're probably right, but we don't know for a certainty yet.

Dick Clark (American Bandstand) interviews a very shy and young 19 yr old Prince. We don't see that kind of modesty any more from artists.

(but consider the source...FOX) nation.foxnews.com/2016/04/24/drug-dealer-prince-spent-40000-time-pain-pills-25-yearsDrug Dealer: Prince Spent $40,000 At A Time On Pain Pills For 25 Years Published April 24, 2016 Prince's former drug dealer has revealed the full extent of the late-star's secret drug addiction - telling how the superstar was hooked on powerful opiates for over 25 years. Speaking exclusively to Daily Mail Online, the performer's long-time dealer - who asked to be named only as Doctor D - revealed the singer would spend up to $40,000 a time on six-month supplies of Dilaudid pills and Fentanyl patches - both highly addictive opioid pain killers.

yes, consider the source.. but it is true opiates are highly addictive to some people. I don't blame people who are mostly suffering and in pain. Not their fault.. everybody deserves to feel good and be pain free. there should be a diversion to alternative medication or herbs from doctors that give the same relief with no side effects or harm.. so you would think..

Yes, but the countless trillions of dollars big pharma industry doesn't want any competition. and so they will continue to buy politicians to outlaw alternative medicine and alternative ways of healing. And big pharma suits will continue to brainwash the masses that medicine isn't medicine unless you get sick from what they call the side effects, which in truth are the effects. No worries, we've got another poison to treat those side effects. Money, money, money.

In the early 80's I and others in Arizona petitioned the state to allow a Homeopathic Board be set up as an alternative to the AMA here. Been going strong ever since. There are ways to do things if you can just get the camel's nose under the tent. As a result those wishing to use their health insurance can do so for alternative medicine. Many holistic healing schools have evolved as well. I would imagine other states are doing similar things. I was lucky to have as my doctor the guy most instrumental in pushing this movement. He got his patients involved and it worked!! So there are things being done if you look for them.Homeopathic Medicine Founded in 1982, The Arizona Homeopathic and Integrative Medical Association (AHIMA) is the state association for licensed homeopathic medical physicians in Arizona and in other states. Homeopathic medical physicians provide the citizens of Arizona, and across our nation, a choice in healthcare. Homeopathy, one of the disciplines, was founded more than 200 years ago. It is holistic, scientifically based, safe, effective and less expensive than allopathic medicine. www.arizonahomeopathic.org/www.aznaturalmedicine.com/about-us/www.aznaturalhealth.com/

Van Jones talk about Prince the humanitarian. Wow I really had no idea. Me neither. I thought of him as a very gifted artist but also as pretty vain and a bit of a naughty boy. Not evil persé, but a bit of a rascal. Turns out from what I've heard that he was one of the most 'awake' artists out there. Completely up to par with the things I often talk about. And now it turns out that he was a great humanitarian as well. Prince was a remarkable person. I hope that he will be richly rewarded for it all in his new reality.

Van is a great guy. Hated and ridiculed by Conservatives. Van is also part of Bernie's campaign for President. I would bet anything Prince was also for Bernie. I would encourage Van to get into politics himself. Run for office. He has heart and is a brilliant man. (which is why the righties hate him so. that and his connections to Obama)
