July 7, 2006
Universal Amphitheatre - Los Angeles
My review of said show:
Opening for Linda last night was Richie Furay, whom, if you've read your rock music history books, founded two of the most important of L.A.'s early country-rock outfits, Buffalo Springfield and Poco. The show started right on the money at 8:15 PM, and Furay and his band, which included his daughter on backing vocals, ran through some of the material from his forthcoming new album (can't remember the title), as well as some stuff from his bands of the past--the 1966 Buffalo Springfield track "Go And Say Goodbye", and his 1972 Poco masterpiece "A Good Feelin' To Know" (which should have been a d***ed hit then!). He had what the Grateful Dead would call a "touch of gray" in his hair, but he was pretty much the same kind of vocalist he had been back in the days. He was also very gracious to Linda for letting him open for her, mentioning it at both ends of his set, which concluded right at 9:00.
Intermission was about 23 minutes in length; and not surprisingly, I looked around where I was (on the far right side and very close to the stage, less than twenty feet from where Linda would be standing). I couldn't help noticing that I appeared to be one of the few people there under the age of forty (I was 35, going on 36 then). It's fortunate for me that when I was eight, my aunt had a copy of LIVING IN THE U.S.A. in her home, because the conventional cannard is that people my age, the ones who allegedly grew up on diets of MTV and Madonna, really aren't supposed to like Linda, or any other baby-boomer acts for that matter.
Comes 9:23, the houselights dim, and as the strains of "What's New" begin, in walks Our Girl, dressed the same, but noticeably much thinner, and happy to be back in the city where she gave so much of her time and cultivated such a loyal fanbase. Below is the complete setlist:
WHAT'S NEW BEWITCHED, BOTHERED, AND BEWILDERED SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME STRAIGHTEN UP AND FLY RIGHT GUESS I'LL HANG MY TEARS OUT TO DRY GET OUT OF TOWN LITTLE GIRL BLUE LUSH LIFE IT'S TOO SOON TO KNOW JUST ONE LOOK OOH BABY BABY ADIOS FEELS LIKE HOME SOMEWHERE OUT THERE POOR, POOR, PITIFUL ME
Encores:
QUIEREME MUCHO BLUE BAYOU (final verse in Spanish)
This was the last of my three times seeing Linda in concert.

Which illness did Linda have in 2006, was it early PSP or another? Was it the same she had in 1998 recording "We Ran".

Which illness did Linda have in 2006, was it early PSP or another? Was it the same she had in 1998 recording "We Ran". Singer Linda Ronstadt has canceled tour dates for the rest of the year to recover from surgery she had this week, her agent said. Ronstadt’s agent, Shelly Schultz, would not provide details on the surgery the 60-year-old singer underwent Tuesday in Tucson, but said it wasn’t cancer. “It wasn’t an emergency, but it came about rather quickly, so she decided to do it sooner rather than later,” Schultz said. “It’s surgery, it’s completed, and she’s fine.”

Might have been the shoulder surgery Linda had, which she initially blamed (before Parkinson's was diagnosed) for affecting her voice?

According to The Mercury News the shoulder surgery was in 2010 causing her to miss The San Jose Mariachi & Mexican Heritage Festival where she was artistic director.

Didn't Linda have surgeries on 2 separate occasions? One was for a trapped nerve.

Do you mean she had two shoulder operations,I was only aware of one the other surgery was in 2006 as mentioned above. The Mercury News 4th August 2010 says the surgery was to repair a recent shoulder injury which could have been anything but I suppose it could have been a trapped nerve.

I thought one was a remedial op. or to repair an old injury. Poor Linda's body
