I just saw this "news" as an alert on my phone. I am officially old.

I wasn't too terribly surprised by the Swift's win, to be honest. But she did call out Kanye West from the stage, which was just fine with me (somebody should muzzle that little s.o.b., in my opinion).

A pity that Beyonce wasn't nominated as well. That might have added a bit of spice to the thing. But seriously. Thousands of albums were released during 2015. "And you know who made the best one of the lot? Taylor Swift!" Who can possibly take such a thing seriously?

Nobody. But I wouldn't have taken it any more seriously if Beyoncé had been nominated and had won. Truth be told, I don't think she's all that great.

My my, what a bold and adventurous choice. That kid's gonna go places I tell ya.
Perchance are there any shots of her shocked reaction at winning?

I think that Beyonce is "better" - at the very least in terms of potential, than Taylor Swift. The same is true of Rihanna imo. But the mere suggestion that either one of them should get an album of the year award is laughable. But I was of course only kidding with my remark about a nomination for Beyonce. It would have made it more entertaining to see the reaction of West when Taylor won. And the entertainment factor is the only one worth considering in these things since the awards themselves are a complete joke. I don't understand why they don't give Toni Bennett 10 best traditional pop album awards in one go. He gets that one each year anyway because he's the only name on the list of nominees that voters recognize and they don't bother checking out the others. And the same thing is true for lots of other categories. Now that the always automatically nominated BB King is no more many probably had problems casting a vote in the blues category. In short - the grammys are a farce where the suits that run the industry give each other a pat on the back for a job well done from a business perspective. We see something similar when it comes to the Oscars. You hear people/movie makers talk about "campaigning." "We've made a great movie, but we don't have the budget to campaign effectively." What a joke! Were you the best actor/actress/director/whatever, or weren't you? If you were you should get that damned statue, and if you weren't you shouldn't. It's as simple as that. You can't "campaign" to be the best (in so much that the best even exists in the arts) - you either are or you ain't. If it is necessary to campaign - and I don't doubt for a mitute that it is, the entire thing has zero credibility.

Not to mention the sadsack ..begging Mark Zuckerberg for a billion dollars. how pathetic is that. I'm glad Taylor called him out. not that it will phase him or his wife. I feel sorry for his children..

I'm 31 so I'm nowhere near old (although I'm sure some people would consider 31 old ) but I remember the days when I used to check the singles and albums chart every week and I do that very rarely these days, only when an artist/band I like has a new album out do I actually bother looking. The only artists I was interested in seeing win at this years Grammy's were Björk and Faith Evans, neither won. The only good thing for me about the Grammy's this year was seeing Adele's vocals finally being considered poor. I find this to be the case with her in general but "technical errors" showed it at the Grammy's. I read that she was "crying all day" after what happened, man up Adele and get on with it the way Mariah Carey has had to with her criticisms.

Quote by Damien:
I would say that the technical errors Adele suffered would have thrown just about anybody off. I honorably disagree about Adele being a poor vocalist; and I would also point out that she seemed to laugh it off by saying she was going to In N Out afterwards.
And if poor performances are what are supposed to destroy a performer's career, why hasn't that happened with Taylor Swift? Her career arguably should have flat-lined after the debacle at the 2010 Grammys, when she sounded horribly off dueting with Stevie Nicks on "Rihannon". Instead, thanks in part to Kanye West's rants and to the defense mounted by her label's chieftain Scott Borchetta, she is far bigger now than she was at that point, and I just don't see that changing at this time.

Adele (like Linda) seems to be a perfectionist. With a voice like theirs you hope the accompanying music is up to par but shit happens. I can understand her being upset. From the interviews I have heard she is really quite a sweetheart and very down to Earth the same way Linda is. That particular moment in time is what will live on in the media...forever.

I think Adele is a good vocalist, although her material is not really my thing. She was interviewed a few years ago on 60 Minutes and she seemed likable and down to earth, and had lots of words bleeped out which made me like her more.

It is amazing how the songs a singer chooses to sing not only creates fans but can create the singers success. Imagine Linda singing disco and funk or just opera. Would any of us be here?

Well, in the case of opera, "yes, I probably would be here." I like funk, but I doubt that Linda would be any good at it and disco I just don't like, leaving aside the odd exception here and there.

The reason why Adele's vocals were considered poor is because people are used to better from her. Other pop-ettes fucking up is as expected and thus not a story. It's a bit like Elvis Costello said when he compared himself to Madonna, "When my latest album isn't as good as the previous one I get criticized. When Madonna's latest fart stinks just a tiny bit less than the last one it's declared a masterpiece."

The standard of Linda Ronstadt's vocals was incredible and the consistency was always there too. Somebody please post a video of Adele's singing to prove how her standard of singing is in the same league as Linda Ronstadt.
Here are two women whose vocal performances are in the same league...
TINA ARENA OH ME OH MY
TINA ARENA I WANT TO LOVE YOU
MARIAH CAREY ALL I'VE EVER WANTED
MARIAH CAREY LEAD THE WAY
