This is really good news to hear, and yes, a fair piece overdue.
But as James Donald says to the Nazi commandant at the beginning of THE GREAT ESCAPE: "It's rather nice to know that you're wanted."

This is great news! I am so glad that she is being recognized in this way. About 20 to 25 years ago, the Grammys used to induct the recipients during the telecast. Now, they have relegated it to the on-air announcer saying before they cut to commercial, "receiving lifetime Grammy tonights were....." The Lifetime Grammy is the award that Linda (and Michael Tilson Thomas) presented to Leonard Bernstein (and Linda couldn't get away from Lenny fast enough!) -- I think the tastes in music have changed so much that the show is now dominated by the likes of Taylor Swift or Beyonce and their fans and it doesn't leave room to pay much attention to or give much time to those who came before. Here are a few other times the award was presented during the broadcast --

Way to go Linda!! Perhaps this explains the sudden appearance of all the (bad) bios that have sprung up lately. She didn't look exactly comfortable with "Leaping Lenny" She did however look delectable in her discomfort.

Long overdue, well deserved and the least the industry could do for the all too modest Ronstadt. Is she one of the only people to have two lifetime achievement Grammys - Latin and this one? Really the Country Music HOF(which has some credibility as opposed to the R&R Hall of Fame)should give it to her NOW! Linda doesn't care about this stuff her devotees - musicians and fans are the ones who care. BTW the little blurb in the press release was that same old ridiculous "With roots in the California ..." Happy News for all Linda Lovers - will take what we can get. Nice tribute to Linda from Trisha Yearwood in The "Boot" this week.

Watching the Steven Sondheim video it struck me that right up to the point he says "Barbra Streisand" he could have just as well said "Linda Ronstadt" and every word would have been true. And by the way Barbara richly deserves everything she got, one of the few (along with Aretha) who stands with Linda at the pinnacle.

I thought I was seeing things when I saw the heading. I thought at first that it was a list of people who have a lifetime achievement award (in Linda's case a Latin Lifetime Grammy). I am so happy for her and of course it is well deserved. As far as the Bernstein segment, poor Linda looked trapped. Like this isn't the way it supposed to go and that she isn't supposed to be WITH Bernstein during his acceptance speech. Barbra is like Reba for me. I like them better as actors than music artists. Love Reba's personality. eddiejinnj

Better late than never with the much deserved recognition. I wonder why she was so skittish with L.B. It actually looks like she's pushing him away during that hug...

I wonder if Linda considers this a "big thing" as she stated she only shows up for the big things now. I would say it is. The small things like platinum awards for recordings not so big. This is big and well deserved.

Does anyone know how many artists have been given both Grammy and Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement awards? Cannot be too many. Lauren

One of those getting a Lifetime Grammy alongside Linda is Celia Cruz, but she's the only other person I can think of right off the top who may have garnered Lifetime Achievement Grammys from both the Latin branch and the entire Grammy organization as a whole. Otherwise, Linda may very well be it.

Quote by eddieinnj:
Keep in mind, though, that the Latin ceremony was four years ago; and her health situation is more than a little different now. But yes, I hope she is somehow able to attend if she so chooses. In either case, it may all come down to how many salute her at the ceremony, and who those folks are (hopefully starting with Trisha Yearwood).

I hope she attends too..depends on her health. she didn't attend the R&R Hall of Fame induction..I realize her health is different than 4 years ago but she still does some traveling for speaking engagements so there is some hope she will attend..As far as the Latin Grammys.. For some reason I feel Linda holds that portion of her career more dearly to her and wouldn't have missed it for the world.

Due to the changing makeup of our society Linda will be one of the first in a long line of Latinas to get those awards.

it would be wonderful for her to attend this ceremony ... I really hope she does If they dedicate a section of the show to her, and she's present it would be wonderful. But if they are just going to make a short announcement before they move on to the nominations for "best rap vocal by a female" (or whatever) it's not worth the hassle of her traveling imo. Still cool that she gets the award though.

I think he liked Linda a bit too much there.....LOL. Maybe she was just a little surprised by that. Can't blame him though. If that had been me, I wouldn't have wanted to let go of her either.....LOL.

What took them so long? Great News. According to Billboard a ceremony and concert is planned for the Spring. The regular grammy broadcast will probably just include an announcement. Long time ago I met Linda backstage at the Delacort theater during Pirates(very briefly - I was awe struck and she knew it - still embarrassed to this day) Leonard Bernstein was with her and shooed me and a friend away from her - he had great hair but was very serious - go near her again and I'll clobber you. We were teenagers just saying how we loved her.

thanks for story guest. I guess it seems that Linda and Leonard did know each other earlier than the presentation. Maybe that's why they picked her. I see Linda as being nervous re: being on tv and that she wanted to stick to how it was supposed to go. In her mind she probably thought "I'm not supposed to be at the podium rt along side him as he is making his speech" and wanted to bow out gracefully. Fab, I refuse to go to the visual in my mind re: your bathroom visits lol!!!!!!! eddiejinfl
