As the song "Tell Him" is fading out on Linda's "Get Closer" album, the background singers reverse the lyrics. "Tell him that you're never gonna love him, tell him that you're always gonna leave him...".

I noticed it back in 1982 when "Get Closer" was first released. I mentioned it again recently in the General Music Discussion in regards to how Bette Midler altered the lyrics to "Too Many Fish in the Sea" on her "It's The Girls!" CD. On the fade she mentions "Deaf ones, Dumb Ones, Blind ones..." etc. I wondered if she got the idea from Linda's "Tell Him."

Wow, I don't recall this convo ever. I will have to listen to it as soon as I can. That is a first for her to change the lyrics in a studio recording to completely change the meaning without quote needing to. It is a fun song so I guess she was playing around. This would be something to ask Linda at one of these recent appearances. Does she know this occurred? I have always focused on listening to Linda at the end cut loose per se vs I guess really listening to the end backing vocals. Did this come up on here when this song was done on American Idol a few years ago? eddiejinnj
