I am 59 and have been a fan since high school. As I have grown older my ear has become more sophisticated and discerning I've rediscovered Linda Ronstadt. I just purchased several dozen MP3 files of Ms. Ronstadt singing the old standards. I am amazed. That voice is as pure as the new snow. Now that I can compare it to Ella, Peggy Lee, Julie London, Lena Horne and other great female voices of the last century - I'm simply blown away. And what power!
As I listen to some of those old classic songs that I have grown to love from the 30s and 40s, the purity and clarity of that voice coupled with those love songs puts some others to shame. A handful even had tears running down my cheeks.
Is there no end to this woman's talent? Has anyone else had this experience?

Yes jimbrand. Every day. No end to her talent and the crystal clarity and perfection. She has often been criticized for that perfection but she is just being Linda using that wonderful voice. Perfection comes naturally.

Yes, every time I listen to the Nelson Riddle songs, I get hypnotized.
Linda has said that her voice was most comfortable singing those old standards, and it shows.

Amen. You're preaching to the choir here. The richness, texture and emotion in her voice is quite simply astonishing. She is a true storyteller with her stellar phrasing and interpretation of every verse. Yes, she has more than successfully done of job of making us cry...even grown men such as yourself.

I would also say that she earns these tears from us in an honest way. As I believe she said in the interview she gave for CBS's Sunday Morning program back in December 2004, she was only really ever trying to tell her own story (by her own admission, a self-centered way of doing things); and that if you are able to communicate it in so honest a way that it really affects people, then you've done your job. The thing is, it's easy to make people cry. The toughest part is to do it in a totally honest and non-manipulative way, which Linda has managed to on countless occasions.
