San Diego claims to have the biggest fireworks show on the West Coast. Was watching the broadcast on KTLA 5 in Loa Angeles. During the fireworks show Linda's version of "Back in the U.S.A." was played. Nice to hear her in rotation with other "America" songs.

Great to hear that.
And yet, didn't Rolling Stone's review of LITUSA knock Linda for not getting the "irony" of that song? Personally, I've listened to that song -- both Berry's and Linda's -- many times and didn't detect any inherent irony in it at all. Both versions sound like celebrations (of someone returning from overseas) to me.
The live version of this song from the Mad Love concert really rocks.

Quote by Richard W:
They needed something to b***h about Linda for during that era, however insignificant. They just couldn't take her interpretation or even of Berry's lyrics, at face value for what each is.
Truth be told, I've never been sure that Rolling Stone's reviewers, let alone its prick of a publisher, ever really understood what irony actually is.

I think her performance of Back In The USA in the Chuck Berry Hail Hail Rock & Roll movie is the best performance in the film. She's loose, playful and having fun. Inspired.

The irony of it all is they were a bunch of no talented hacks who had to make themselves important by putting others down. They made stuff up then like they do now.Rolling Stone turned on Linda because she didn't kiss their ass.
