Its a little quiet on here so I thought I'd start a thread ....
am I imagining or was there in the early 90s a "TV special" (for want of a better word) - A&E Lifetime Intimate Portrait on Linda Ronstadt. I'm sure I had this on VHS - i've searched on YouTube and nothing ...
anyone?

Not familiar to me, the only Linda related A&E material I found was a 'Breakfast with the Arts' appearance in 2004:

I recall a special for VH1 titled something like "Still Within The Sound of Her Voice" The interview was done around the time of CLARHLW inside her SF house with a magnificent view of the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. It was very good. I am surprised Lifetime and Biography never Ronstadt profiles.

I don't think I knew about the a&e breakfast with the arts. saw the cbs sunday morning show with her profile and performances from hummin'. weird now that I think of it, they usually don't have people perform per se on the cbs show. am I mixing the 2 up? I really don't recall watching a&e to see her do the hummin' songs in a studio. I have heard of the vh1 special and would like to see it in its entirety. eddiejinnj

yes, that was it, the VH1 special - I remember her being interviewed in a chair with the bridge in the background through the window. It was very good, and I'm surprised I can't find it online anywhere! although there are a few short clips on here

The Internet Movie Database (imdb.com) lists all of the television shows and movies associated with Linda, whether she appeared as a performer or contributed as a performer or was about her. No A&E documentary on Linda, which was kind of surprising, although it should be noted A&E didn't really start spotlighting a lot of performers from the 70s until the early 2000s. It's still possible Linda would be the subject of an A&E documentary, although if it involved her at all, she'd probably would want them to focus on her musical career and stay out of her private life, which they generally do. Linda would be worthy of a two hour documentary. I think they could find enough material to fill a couple of hours. What would be nice would be to find something not very many people have seen. I know Linda made an appearance on some Houston DJ's music tv show in '71 that was syndicated, which I happened to catch. That's a lost artifact. Who knows what else is out there?

I came here (the previous incarnation of this board) originally in my search for a Linda Ronstadt A&E Biography. Alas there is none, which I find incredulous, considering the Biography series had devolved to doing profiles of celebrities on the level of "Screech". I see they stopped making Biography a few years ago too.

I haven't watched the A&E Channel in quite a while, but I thought "Biography" would still have been running with new episodes being produced. I actually fancied the idea of a series of music biographies being made and running on HBO/Cinemax or Showtime or any commercial free channel. The problem with the so called two hour documentaries on A&E was that they were actually less than 90 minutes because of the excessive number of commercials. I figured a two hour documentary running on HBO or Showtime actually would run two hours, maybe more, depending on what material could be unearthed.
With Linda, I'd want to see a documentary where she could be fleshed out as a person and not just as a singer. That would mean finding people who knew her and could provide stories only they would know. I wouldn't necessarily want to see her musical associates providing that because sometimes an interview like that could delve into where it's more about them than her. I remember watching Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda on the Today show back in the 80s before they passed. It was a tribute to Fonda but Lucy talked more about herself than about Fonda.
But, time is really against a good biography on Linda being produced. Practically, all but one or two members of Linda's mid-to-late 70s band members are dead. Linda's older sister just died, and people like Lowell George, Nicolette Larson and Gram Parsons all died long ago. And who knows how many people who knew Linda from school have died and who could've revealed her personality. The number of people who knew her probably shrinks more than we know. I'd like to have known Linda as a person rather than just as an the most gifted female singer of the 20th century. Linda revealed a little of herself in her book but that book only made me want to know even more about her. I'd like to see or read something more before it gets too late.
