Evidently people who run the movie theater business are debating whether to allow cell phone use and texting inside theaters while a film is playing. One of the reasons I rarely go to see movies in theaters anymore is exactly because of this. While trying to watch a movie, my eyes get distracted by the glow of someone's Smartphone. Interesting, according to this discussion, that it is the guy from IMAX who wants to relax this rule. IMAX theaters charge more for admission so you'd think it would be more about the movie-going experience, not who is allowed to surf the Internet or Twitter. www.deadline.com/2012/04/is-it-time-to-let-movie-goers-send-texts-during-a-film-cinemacon/

Cell phones and texting should be BANNED from such places (IMHO).

I loathe and despise those self-obsessed, self-important, rude oblivious arseholes.
If something is that critical or you are that important that you can't be out of touch for two hours, make your own drive-in -- stay the car and stream something through your smart phone. Just don't ruin my $10 experience with your incessant need to be connected to something, anything.
I mean, what did people do when they went to the movies 20 years ago? Oh, that's right -- they gave their attention to the movie.
[thanks for letting me rant]

I only went to two movies in the 2000's but would have been quite irritated had they interrupted Michael Moore or Al Gore in any of the climactic scenes. (from separate movies of course)
