Having never seen The Abyss, I was surprised and pleased to hear Linda's "Willin'" featured so prominently in it.
In a rather extended sequence, the song is playing over the com system and several of the characters sing enthusiastically along with her. Later, the song starts up again and the villain smashes the sound system!
This has probably been mentioned before, but the experience was new to me.

It was the Special Edition, with 20 minutes additional footage.
I assume, then, that the theatrical edition did not include this.
Good post, Robert.

My father, Lowell George wrote the song.

Yes, he sure did. It is a great song. Welcome to the forum, forestgeorge. Can I ask if you ever met Linda? eddiejinnj

If I recall right, I think it was Lowell himself who actually suggested that Linda record "Willin'" in the first place, even though I suspect that many people (Linda herself included) thought it odd for her to be doing what is essentially a truck driver's anthem.
Of course, Linda finally went ahead and record it, and ended up recording one of the classics of the C&W/rock genre...and we can be grateful to both her and Lowell for that.

It really is the epitome of the country rock genre and also PPPM. It is like "Desperado" as it a staple of many of her concert performances. A cool audience participation type song. eddiejinnj

streamable.com/gstm4fI found this on the other Ronstadt forum archive. It seems to get deleted wherever else it appears. It's a fun film clip.
