so, I absolutely adore the first Trio album .... the 2nd I'm a little "meh" about. I guess the delay in release and the fact that the tracks were split and released in other formats/edit before being "reassembled" into Trio II diluted the impact of the album for me. However I listened to it again last week for the first time in more than 5 years - it was nice to hear it fresh again.
Lover's Return is such a lovely song, the addition of Dollys vocals on the T2 album are a little overpowering and too high in the mix for me, but I love the Feels Like Home album version.
On some of the other tracks I find Linda barely noticeable in the mix but Emmylou has some wonderful songs again, in particular You'll Never Be The Sun which is sad and beautiful ..... and When We're Gone, Long Gone. I also like the funky, country I Feel The Blues Movin' In ..... it was a pleasant surprise to hear the album again.
Really wish as much time, effort and $$ had been put into the packaging though

I think that you are rt re: songs being released before that diluted the impact. also, it would have sold better if these "Linda" lead vocals were songs not on any of her other albums; in this case "feels like home". more people would have bought the album for that reason alone. new Linda music. The album did do well though and Linda did a fine job in producing it imo. so it gave her some production clout. eddiejinnj

Only the critical and popular success of the first album kept this album from the credit it deserves. It may be sacrilege to some here, but I prefer Valerie Carter's vocal to Dolly's on some cuts. Valerie's harmony vocals were a welcome addition to Linda's Feels Like Home tour...

I think Valerie's voice is closer to Linda's. it makes it hard to hear the difference. I have always thought that Valerie was the lead on the flh version and I think Linda is wonderful for letting her do that. doesn't Valerie technically sing lead? eddiejinnj

I think Valerie Carter takes the lead on After The Goldrush on FLH, whereas Dolly sings lead on T2 - yes, I prefer Linda and Valerie than Linda and Dolly on After The Goldrush and Lover's Return

Nothing is like the first Trio album.. but T2 has some really great standouts on it such as Lover's Return. But I actually prefer Dolly's harmonies to Valarie's. I just love the sound of Dolly's beautiful songbird vocals!

Dolly's lack of commitment to T2 is what did it in more than anything when the momentum hit a brick wall and delayed it. Even so it is a beautiful album. I am wondering what ever happened to T3 or a compilation we were expecting? I know there are enough songs yet unreleased along with a few like My Blue Tears that could add up to a new release.

There was talk of a 25th anniversary reissue with out-takes / unreleased tracks according to Emmylou but that disappeared. I contacted Rhino who I believe held the rights at the time and they said they had no further plans. Sad ....

I prefer the FLH versions of those songs later on Trio 2. "Complete Trio" shows enough were recorded to give T2 its own exclusive content. Linda also promoted a couple by herself for FLH, so to repeat them later was disappointing.

I like the sepia picture better than the pic on that album. Where is that album from? There was a shorter album version during the release of the Complete Trio but I don't think it was called or looked like that. It had like that paisley looking background of flowers. eddiejinnj

Its interesting the FLH packaging has in its literature.
Linda's big thanks to & appreciation of Emmylou across the top of page 2.
"After The Gold Rush" credits state "Trio vocals by Valerie Carter, Emmylou Harris & Linda Ronstadt." All the other FLH song credits are titled "Background vocals".
