I didn't know that Gorme recorded songs in Spanish. Too bad Linda and Lady G. couldn't collaborate on Lush Life. Hey, maybe Lady Gaga can sing a duet with Kelly Clarkson--LOL!! Yes, she sure did. My mother listened to her alot and had that same album cover on the video I posted. when I was little Edyie Gorme was like my Pastora Pavón Cruz (La Niña de los Peines) - Linda's favorite singer when she was a little girl..

Stephen Sondheim Throws Shade at Lady Gaga’s Oscar Performance by The Insider 1:57 mins Julie Andrews may have loved Lady Gaga’s show-stopping “Sound of Music” medley at the Oscars, but there’s one person who wasn’t a fan. Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim, whose mentor was “The Sound of Music” lyrical genius Oscar Hammerstein, spoke candidly about Mama Monster’s rendition to The Times of London. “It was ridiculous, as it would be from any singer who treats that music in semioperatic style,” the 84-year-old said. “She had no relationship to what she was singing. What people liked was her versatility.” But Gaga wasn’t the only target of Sondheim’s critique. The composer also threw shade at Carrie Underwood, who starred in “The Sound of Music Live” on TV in 2013. Check out the video to find out what he said, and tune in to “The Insider With Yahoo” on TV tonight for the latest in entertainment news. celebrity.yahoo.com/the-insider/stephen-sondheim-throws-shade-lady-185441402.html

I have tremendous respect for Mr. Sondheim as a genius of 20th century American music, but I do honorably dissent in his opinion of Lady Gaga's performance on the Oscars. I think his point would have been much more valid had she done the song in a meat dress, but that of course didn't happen.
As for Carrie's performance in the TV version of The Sound Of Music--as I recall, not a whole lot of people were pleased with that one either. But then again, they can't please everybody.

Most composers for the musical theatre don't like it if an artist drifts too far away from their original intentions, no matter how well it's done. Richard Rodgers didn't like jazz artists doing his stuff because they took (in his opinion) too many liberties with the material. He didn't even like Peggy Lee's pretty much non-jazz but nevertheless innovative latin arrangement of "Lover." Irving Berlin liked Fred Astaire's versions of his songs the best because he just sticked with what was on paper and added nothing to it. All very well, but what these people need to understand is that the reason why these songs are recorded over and over again is that they stand up to all kinds of adaptations and improvisation. If there would be (as they claim) only one right way to do those songs there woould only have to be one recording of them and that's it. Berlin, Porter, Kern, Gershwin, Sondheim, Arlen, Mercer and Rodgers wouldn't be the icons that they are without artists putting their own spin on their songs over and over again.

I would think the writers mentioned may very well have liked Linda's versions as she always has tried to stay true to the material however when she does change things a bit as in WWIBL it is so much better than the original. Blue Bayou is another example. Her intuition is usually right on.

My first thought was what the hell is WWIBL? Then it hit me.

I think Carrie sang it okay.. I think people had problems with her acting skills verses the singing itself. Everyone else in the musical were trained actors with an old hollywood or trans atlantic (kelsey grammer in frasier accent) I think that made a huge difference.
