Like most on this forum, I've been a fan of Linda Ronstadt from a very early age. It all started with singing and dancing to Different Drum in front of a mirror with a hairbrush. My family was very musical, my 7 older siblings had their favorite artists in every genre, and I learned to love all music. But the first album I bought as a teen was Don't Cry Now, which I sang along to constantly--as well as most other albums and CD's she's put out since. As a result I sound a lot like her when I sing. But unlike her I had no desire to perform, or try to break into the music business--although I was encouraged to do so the times I did perform with musician friends, and especially when I sang at weddings. Anyway, music is my prozac, and to try to do it for a living might mess that up lol... When Linda got into opera, I had to keep up, so I took opera voice lessons, auditioned for the city choir and sang with them for a few seasons. I realized that I prefer listening to that kind of music, rather than performing it. But that training kept me singing along with her later albums, just like her. Linda is the only artist obsession I have. There's just something about her that I can't really name, that keeps me coming back to know more. I've kept up with her via the internet (especially youtube!), which was how I stumbled onto this site. I read the forums often, and occasionally (like now) I'll get the urge to join in with you people of like mind. Instead of becoming a singer, I enjoyed a long career as a Programmer/Analyst for the State of Texas, and recently retired early at the age of 55.

To learn more/all things about Linda.
I may sound sexist, but I was infatuated by her beauty and then later knocked out by her voice. Then enamoured more when I found out how intelligent she is.

I've only been a fan of Linda's since Christmastime last year. I've nearly completed 'Hasten Down The Wind' (as I've said in other posts, I listen to albums over and over until I know them almost too well).
I'm 31 and work in retail.

I've nearly completed 'Hasten Down The Wind' (as I've said in other posts, I listen to albums over and over until I know them almost too well). You may find that you never "complete" Hasten down the Wind. I never did, and I have listened to it since it first came out in 1976, since which time it has never been anything but my favorite album of all time. I don't recall how I found this forum. I was probably googling around the time Linda's book came out, because I had looked for something like it before then, but never found anything but ronstadt-linda.com/, and I was nearly always up-to-date with the information on that site. I do remember how I "came to Linda," though. Someone I dated in the 1970s used to play the side of the Different Drum album that started with "Long, Long Time." That song didn't make as much of an impression on me as the last song, "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" did. But when we were breaking up, he played "Long, Long Time" at me, and that has stayed with me forever. The record store I went to the next day didn't have Different Drum, but the clerk told me Linda's brand new album, Hasten down the Wind, was even better. I bought it. I've played it thousands of times, I am sure, since then. It no longer reminds me of breakups, etc. It is simply my favorite album of all time. "Long, Long Time" may still be my favorite Linda Ronstadt song, however.

Well of course with any album I play I see the songs in a different way when I haven't heard them for a while. It's very rare I will play an album and just play odd songs, I tend to listen to the album from beginning to end. It's a shame that people can hear snippets of songs these days and just download the ones they like. I'm 31 but I'm old school in that I like to buy the CD album.
I'm about to start Linda's 'Greatest Hits' album which I will probably just play through twice as I've learned the songs from the studio albums. I will still play it though before starting 'Simple Dreams'.
I've been a fan of Bette Midler (as an actress) since I was a kid (Big Business and Hocus Pocus are two of my favourite movies ever made) and it wasn't until about three or four years ago I checked out her music. I knew the odd song but not much and I ended up buying all her albums and starting working my way through them. I'm not doing too bad and I'm up to 'Bathhouse Betty' at the moment.

Bette's new album is great Damian - as are her two songbook CDs although the Rosemary Clooney is better than the Peggy Lee CD. I'm seeing Bette in London in July- I have meet & greet tickets which I'm very much looking forward to.

I've got tickets to see Bette Midler too. I'm going to the Manchester date as London is too far for me to travel. I think 'All I Need To Know' is one of her best songs. I have heard Linda's version with Aaron Neville even though I'm not up to the 'Cry Like A Rainstorm-Howl Like The Wind' album yet and I do like Linda's version more.

I am a UK citizen. A Linda fan through buying her albums, and more recently the wealth of material of & about her online.
As I'm often alone, Linda is my musical companion. I am not affected by the US-exclusive issues but did regard Linda's South African "gig" a "faux pas" as going against UN policy.
I found this forum from Tony's excellent web site, and post in mainly Linda-themed threads on the Steve Hoffman forums. Its good to chat to other passionate Linda fans from around the world.
This particular forum has touched me with the personal, mainly mature, emotional side of Linda fandom. For a singer, only Elvis Presley & a few others really have the deep fan adoration Linda has.
The one year, 1976, Linda came to the UK, I was deep into senior high school graduating exams & revision, as well as some domestic issues. A trip to the US later was not an option either due to my employers' vacation scheduling. So Youtube is catchup.
Linda's loveliness, starting with her voice, and then looks & personality I find captivating, and am glad to have found people who feel the same way.

I honestly cannot remember which version of this forum I first joined but did so because Linda is my all time favourite singer. When I joined I was delighted to find other members who shared similar taste in music beyond Linda who like me wanted to highlight artists like Tift. Caitlin and in the last few years Courtney Marie (special mention for Erik who I knew from the old "Women of Country" site). I appreciate the information I've had from here, the thanks given when I've been able to add something and the enquiries about how I am (thanks eddiejinnj). It appears that I am one of the oldest members on here and one of a small number of UK members but it does feel like home here and though I don't post or even log in often this is the first site I check out every day.

I came here in December 2021 after I got into Linda's music on August 20, 2021. I was a huge fan of Dolly Parton's music and my cat had died the previous day (August 19). He was 18 and about 2 and a half years older than me (July 2003 for him, November 2005 for me) so I'd never lived without him. My family drove up on a previously planned trip to Duluth on the 20th, so I had about 5 hours in the car that I had to try and fill with anything but thoughts of my cat, otherwise I wouldn't be able to enjoy the trip. I used Spotify on my phone to listen to music, but because I have a free subscription I don't get to listen to the music I pick, instead it shuffles it and mixes stuff from other artists in. I was trying to listen to Dolly Parton's 1992 Straight Talk album when You're No Good came on. I loved it. I'd heard of Linda before and had even listened to Blue Bayou, but I only did it because of Trio and because of all the nice things Dolly said about her voice. After that, it was When Will I Be Loved. Then, Faithless Love. At that point I decided to just play Linda's Spotify page (so it draws from her entire catalog, not just one album) and absolutely loved it. I've barely listened to Dolly since, because something about Linda's music does something for me that Dolly's music doesn't. I wanted to find more music and more information about Linda, but it was pretty scarce online. Eventually, a thread from here came up. I clicked on it and have been enjoying it since. I'm still looking for forums like this one for other artists, like Dolly or Emmylou or Cher, but this is the only one I've found so far. The closest I've come are subreddits on Reddit, but those tend to be small.

Prisoner, have you heard "Goodbye, My Friend," from the Cry like a Rainstorm album? Karla Bonoff wrote it when her cat Casey died. (It's not just for fans of Maureen Bauer.)

"Goodbye My Friend" is mostly for me a reminder of my maternal Grandma who passed away May of 1989 and Cry came out a couple months later. I can't listen to it a lot as I am a mess by the end of it but sometimes I get through it and enjoy it. eddiejinfl

I recently re-discovered Linda's "When will I be loved" and worked it out on guitar (I am a rock & metal (80s version) guitar player). I was re-tracing my musical background growing up. I loved her singing and the album photos. Sorry I was a young teenager.
I'm a 54 y/o male American of Italian heritage (born there, grew up in the US after 6th grade).
Like many artists whose music I learn I researched her background.
Linda's pictures and live performances from her heydays elicited an animal crush and I've become further fascinated with her (all of her, you can't parse a person).
Her voice is, simply, stupendous. Nuanced and all so formidable, her voice still rules today, especially way so much more than what is available. No circus behind her, no hyper-spastic dance routines with back up dancers, no auto tune, no lip synching. She just stepped up, commandeered the mike, and BELTED it out.
And her intelligence and obvious well read inferable from her conversations/interviews--Wow, what a Star who did not want to be a star.
Looking forward to interacting with fellow admirers here.
Thanks for having me.

Been a member since day one and the Linda Ronstadt Homepage and member board has ALWAYS been the best place to go for Linda Ronstadt info and fans. Sometimes we don’t agree but when all is said and done the regulars are respectful and good fans. Not fanatics. Never has there been a Linda Ronstadt site, official or not as good as this one.
