I have been reading this blog since this summer. I really enjoy it. I am amazed at the overall knowledge of this group. I think most, if not all people who participate in this blog are true Linda Ronstadt admirers. Many of which are well versed in all aspects of her life and music. Wonderful. I guess because I am curious by nature here is my question. What brings you to this blog and what is the make up of this group? More to the point, do you read this and respond to it because you have a true appreciation for good music. Maybe you have accumulated a lot of information specifically about Linda Ronstadt through out the years and want to share it. Fantastic! Here is the other part of my question. What is the profile of this group? Are you singers? Music teachers? Plumbers? Whatever. East coast, West coast, international? Let me know. Thanks everyone.

Hi; I consider this a group more than a blog, (which I consider an ugly sounding word, like a cat being sick), but its all semantics. Besides being a Linda fan, I enjoy all the other forums, even the political section, as heated as it gets. I am semi-retired (work 1 or 2 days a week). An East Coaster (NY/NJ area). Although I enjoy listening to various forms of music, I have a tin ear and as a form of public service, I don't befoul the airwaves (I wish various others I could name would do the same)...

Since I have been following it , I am amazed at the respect that responders are given. Really good to see. You and I are both east coasters. Thanks again for giving me a window into the group.

I'm just now 65 yrs old (happy birthday to me), live in SW Indiana and am a trying to be retired electrical engineer. That ain't working out too well-too many utilities with too much money to blow on my meager talents. I always knew about Linda but only recently have I appreciated her greatness. I guess it was like a positive feedback loop(note the engineer coming out), the more I learned the more I wanted to.know about the remarkable person. It was a shock to find a "celebrity" that acted for all intents and purposes like a normal person. I was doubly shocked that she'd not used a ghost on her book. Due to her influence I play piano, guitar and sing (somewhere between bass and baritone). Please note that I do all the above scarily badly. But who cares? Like she said I'm making my own music and love it (It's my family that suffers) I guess that's it-one last remark-I am truly humbled by the depth of knowledge available here. Again it's a tribute to Linda that she would draw such a learned following.

Well said Moe. Happy Birthday to you . ? I have seen your name often times since I have been reading this blog. It is rather remarkable that a skinny kid from Tucson with a voice twice her size could influence such a varied amount of people for so many years.

I discovered this forum (and really Tony's entire LR site) a little over fourteen years ago, in November 2000, and have been with it ever since. This is actually, in my experience, the third version of this message forum.
My experiences here, both as a member and one of the designated moderators, has been overwhelmingly positive, even though there have been some occasions where some of us, myself included, have been adamant about what we do and don't always like, especially when it comes to Linda. Sometimes in the past, though largely (I think) unintentionally, members will get upset at something somebody says, which is where I try to step in and be responsible order, while trying also to be fair. It's sometimes a dirty job, but (as my fellow moderators will also readily acknowledge) somebody's got to do it.
We are devoted fans all of us, though it's not (at least to me) an obsessive fixation bordering on stalking by any stretch of the imagination; and we do have diverse interests beyond Linda, musical and non-musical, that we like to discuss in the Arts and Entertainment and General Music Discussion sections. For instance, Robert and I have made it our rabble to talk up one of Linda's much younger peers, alt-country/Americana chanteuse Tift Merritt; and I have done a number of movie and music reviews here independent of Linda as well.
Enjoy yourselves, because you are among friends and fellow Linda Ronstadt fans.

(Also on the other blogs in this forum. ) I had no idea that this has been around this long. Regarding the link you just started, where do people find the pictures of Linda? I'm baffled by it. So many. Wow. I guess that's the definition of devotion.I mean it in a good way. I do however wonder what Linda would think if she knew the levels of interest in her life. Maybe flattered, maybe uncomfortable. I don't know. What do you think?

Discovered this blog about a year ago. I find it fun to read. But most of all I have a new appreciation for Linda Ronstadts variety of recordings and of course, her beautiful voice. There is just not that many recording artists of her caliber.

I have been coming to this webpage since before the release of We Ran. I remember patiently waiting for any new info on that project which got me into the webpage even further and learning much. I have been a huge fan since the age of eight when I was growing up in Nashville. I will be 50 om May 10th. I started participating in the first board Tony and or Rich put up back in 97 or early 98 when I bought my first computer. I don't post much anymore but I do read. Was surprised Erik didn't come along until 2000. Erik I thought you were around before me.

Quote by Linda B:
With respect to the pictures that are posted here, and also in the previous iterations of the forum, I try to look for pictures of Linda that aren't as well known from whatever websites there are on the net that have them; it is often an arduous process. Other members have their own accounts at photo sites and post pics at various times.
As to the level of devotion--I again can only speak for myself, but it really only rises to a fairly typical but intense appreciation for what she has bought to the table, not to something where she'd have to fear for her own life. I think we all respect her privacy, and sympathize with a lot of her occasional frustrations with the trappings of stardom and being regarded as a sexual icon of the 1970s. We've even discussed from time to time the notion that so many fans of other artists fall into: idol worshipping. And the advice in this context is something that Bob Dylan says in his 1965 classic "Subterranean Homesick Blues": "Don't follow leaders, watch the parking meters."
Linda probably takes all of this in stride, as she should do. Again, we're not interested really with what goes on in her private life unless she's willing to discuss it out front, as has been the case with her battle against Parkinson's. And we are certainly not stalkers with a sinister agenda. We're just fans.

I've been on this forum for years and years!
There are a lot of reasons why I'm still active on here - it's a polite and respectful group, where you can offer different opinions without fear of abuse, there is a huge wealth of knowledge about Linda, her music and her musical comrades and also people take the time to have intelligent discussions about topics of importance. There are a great bunch of people on here that I enjoy interacting and sharing with!

I'm also impressed by the level of intelligence and musical knowledge from this group and how respectful they are about Linda and her privacy. I haven't been participating for that long, but have found everyone to be receptive to the opinions of others. Maybe we should arrange a big convention, so we can meet each other some time! It seems like some of you know each other, but I'm not sure if that's just from communicating over the years. It's great to network with people that have the same interests without being obsessive fans in a negative way.
Linda B--Hope you're coping with your recent diagnosis of Parkinson's as best as possible and getting the help you need.

But , I heard some lady say " what can you do about it". I think you know who I'm talking about . If you haven't had the chance to see the hour long raw footage of Linda 's interview from a couple of months ago on CBS SF Bay Area regarding an update on her challenge with Parkinson's, it's worth a glance. Honestly, I use that as my beacon right now. She has the greatest take on the whole thing. I really, really like the person she has grown up to be. Thanks again.

Linda is definitely a source of strength and inspiration. She has such a positive attitude as well as a pragmatic approach to life in general. You can't go wrong with that type of support and shared experience. Hang tough!

I think her music soothes my soul but her words of late help calm my mind.

"I really, really like the person she has grown up to be."
She isn't much different than she has always been. Very down to Earth except for a period when she was on top and became tight lipped and reclusive about her personal life but she is back to her old self again which is refreshing. Also a bit wiser but she was a smart cookie from the start. As her Parkinson's continues so will her advocacy for stem cell research and her anger towards a certain political party that has thwarted the research at every turn. Don't think we have heard the end of that one yet.

Although wiser, by watching the early Mike Douglas-Linda-George Carlin interview (late 60's early 70's) it's clear that Linda is the same opinionated, mind-sharp as a razor -deep thinking person she is today. Very unique persona. I wish she would have been more involved in human services, not limited to lending her singing voice to the cause i.e immigration, but an advocate as well, She's too smart and caring.

You called Linda a senior citizen and didn't use the politically correct term for senior citizen! Which, btw, what is that word? LOL! Just kidding you, Linda B. I've been a Linda fan since day one, I suppose, going back to when I was 13 in 1967 when "Different Drum" was Linda's (and the Stone Poneys's) first hit. We had the 45 in our record collection before I had even saw a picture of Linda and the Stone Poneys. When I finally did see a photo of the group, I fell in love with Linda at first sight. She was beautiful and though she was 21 at the time, she looked more like she was 17. And I've stayed a fan all these years although there were some songs she did I didn't always like, but on any of her albums, I could find something I liked. Usually, a lot that I liked. She had and has good taste in music. On what brought me here, the fact I was a fan and looking to find other fans to talk with about all things Linda. All things considered, most of us really don't know Linda personally and even if we do or did, we couldn't know everything about her. One can only know a person on what they choose to tell you about themselves and it may take one's lifetime to know everything or almost everything about that person, whether it's Linda Ronstadt or a mate or a friend. And what I don't know about Linda is something I can ask others here, who may have an answer to the question. And I don't know much. Linda is an elusive mystery who remains appealing, a big part of my life although to her, I would just be one of her many faceless fans whom she doesn't know.

Yikes do you think i'm the first person to actually call her that on this blog ? Once I hit the se nd button , a wave of panic did come over me. I thought omg they will want my head on a stick. Lol I have to admit, the people on this blog are a cool bunch of people. I'm so happy to be able to participate. Thanks so much I for sharing your Linda story.

No, I don't think you are the first person here to refer to Linda Ronstadt as a senior citizen. One can't turn what is truth into something that it's not, and Linda is a senior citizen. I had the same feeling of panic too about my odd question when I clicked the send button. Wasn't sure how others would take it although the question was meant to see whether had heard anything different, as it was possible some of the ashes of Linda's father could've been spread over the land of their former ranch with the remaining ashes buried. But, many of the people here are very knowledgeable about Linda and may be able to shed light on one's question, even if it is an odd one. I asked a question about Linda's unreleased songs and Erik supplied a link to a website that provided information on Linda's recording sessions, where one could see what was unreleased in the vaults. It was kind of a sloppy site and could be better organized and more neat, but it was something.

I am a life-long fan since the age of 13 when Linda's face was on the tv for her first GH album. Loved her from the moment I went and bought this record. I am a fiercely loyal person. I only follow Linda as far as being a fan of a celebrity. Close to her was my admiration for Chris Evert and Andre Agassi in tennis but mostly Chrissie. Tennis to me has not been the same without her. I hail from nj but am in fl quite a bit. I love talking about the greatest singer imo ever. Happy belated bday moe. As far as being in human services, (I was a mental health professional for a number of years), one has to be objective in that kind of work and accepting of all kinds of people. Was glad when Linda has said that she regrets being less than gracious at times. I come to this forum for the camaraderie of other people who have excellent taste in music lol!!!! It is a great forum. Lots of info and opinions and insights. I have learned a lot from the members here and for that am forever grateful! Peace!!!!! eddiejinnj

I've been a fan of Linda's since I was kid or since Blue Bayou, Simple Dreams era. I found this forum or webpage at work one day, mind you this was right before I got my first home computer- late 90's. Needless to say, upon my discovery, I didn't get much work done so I'd print out articles so I could read on my own time. Shortly after I got a nice desktop for my home with dial up.. dsl or whatever we use now wasn't available and it took forever to download her stuff from the other site LindaRonstadt download center. I was so happy when we got dsl at home.

For the record, it was my aunt who (however inadvertently) introduced me to Linda when I was eight years old, back in 1978, with Living In The U.S.A.

As a matter of fact, she is. I had given her a number of Linda's CDs for Christmas over the years, and Linda is still a fixture with her. Like Linda, she is of the Baby Boom generation, so that's a plus.
I guess I find myself drawn much more towards the music of the Baby Boom generation (and not just Linda either) than any other.

The thing is that I grew up listening to a lot of this on the radio in the late 70s and into 1980, and so I kind of got attached to the music of the Baby Boom era. When I was in high school, some eight to ten years later, everybody else was into Madonna or hair metal, and I, to put it mildly, wasn't, which was one of the reasons I don't remember my high school years, or the second half of the 1980s, with any fondness.
