One hopes that more studying can lead to kinds of treatment that could one day stop this disease in its tracks, rather than just merely delaying its onset. On the other hand, it seems to me it comes a little too late for those whose Parkinson's conditions, including Linda's, are gradually escalating.

One hopes that more studying can lead to kinds of treatment that could one day stop this disease in its tracks, rather than just merely delaying its onset. On the other hand, it seems to me it comes a little too late for those whose Parkinson's conditions, including Linda's, are gradually escalating. Linda's situation is complicated by her other ailments such as the diabetes, and her thyroid issue. I'd almost bet she's also dealing with diabetic neuropathy and that may make dealing with Parkinsons that much worse. With where we're at now as far as medical research is concerned, it probably is a little too late to help people like Linda, whose Parkinsons will gradually worsen. I've always believed all diseases and even death are curable, yet at the same time, the mind set in our country on medical research is not really geared towards finding the cure on any disease but on managing the disease so that the afflicted live a little longer and have to keep buying the medications to fight the illnesses. Disease managing is a billion dollar racket and there's no incentive for medical researchers and pharmaceutical companies to find any cure because of the high profit potential in managing the disease. On the other hand, people can't afford some of the high dollar medications, not even on co-pays, so I can't see an incentive for medical researchers and pharmaceutical companies to be so unreasonably high on their prices that those who need the medications the most couldn't afford it. In all reality, this might be one situation where any money for medical research should be provided by the government rather than by free marlet forces. I know that wouldn't set well with the group of people who think the purpose of government should be to butt out of the affairs of business or think the government will only make things worse. But, they should remember their attitude when the person in the hospital dying is someone they know, whether it's a parent, sibling, child, mate or some other relative or friend. And their dying because they couldn't afford the medication.
