For the second time in their 47-year history (the first being just two years ago), the Los Angeles Kings are hoisting the Stanley Cup for the City of Angels. It took double-overtime to defeat the New York Rangers 3-2 in Game 5, but they won the Stanley Cup four games to one over an extremely worthy and tenacious opponent.

It is crazy, I have to agree--oh yes, and the NBA hasn't crowned its champion yet, either (most likely, it'll be the San Antonio Spurs [and it did indeed turn out that way]).
In terms of the Kings, they really made it an adventure to watch. In the first round of the Western Conference playoffs, they were down three games to none against San Jose, then stormed back to win the next four. Then they battled their crosstown rivals the Anaheim Ducks in a full seven-game series, then to Chicago for the conference finals. And it was exhausting to see three of their four wins in the Stanley Cup finals go into overtime, two of them into double overtime. Indeed, the winning goal last night came with 5:17 left in the second overtime, which made it the longest game in the Kings' history, at nearly ninety-five minutes in game time, or close to five hours for TV.
And here, ladies and gentlemen, is the play that did it (plus the post-game bedlam):
