A very futuristic work, "Sustain", by Andrew Norman, composed to celebrate the centennial of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra in 2018:

Many a work by Johann Sebastian Bach has found its way into the concert hall via the large-scale orchestral transcriptions of Leopold Stokowski. This is one of those, a sizeable transcription of the "Chaconne" from J.S. Bach's Violin Partita No. 2 In D Minor, which "Stoki" made with the London Symphony Orchestra in 1974. He was, incredibly, 92 years old:

Steven Price's brilliant quasi-avant-garde score to Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron's 2013 sci-fi masterpiece GRAVITY. As a footnote, many of the ethereal sounds of the score are provided by Alasdair Malloy, who utilizes the same kinds of musical glasses, or glass armonicas, that Dennis James used for parts of Linda's 1993 album Winter Light, and the much-admired 2002 "glass" album Cristal.

A hugely interesting Christmas CD from 1993, featuring the Minnesota-based VocalEssence Ensemble and Singers led by Phillip Brunelle. It features various composers' arrangements of very traditional Christmas carols, and also a work by the late American composer Conrad Susa (who passed away in November 2013) called Carols And Lullabies: Christmas In The Southwest, which adapts numerous Hispanic carols of the season that are familiar to those (like Linda) who grew up in that part of the world in that ethnic setting. The music features harp, marimba, strings, woodwinds, indigenous percussion instruments, and Spanish/classical guitar.

A fairly fascinating work by the American composer John Downey from 1978, a "fantasy" for bassoon and orchestra entitled "The Edge Of Space". Robert Thompson is the bassoon soloist here, with the London Symphony Orchestra led by Geoffrey Simon:

This being the day that commemorates the 1862 Battle of Puebla, in which the good people of that Mexican city defeated a supposedly better-armed occupying French military regiment:
"Mexico"--Bob Moore and his Orchestra (a #7 hit in October 1961, written by Boudleaux Bryant):
And of course, what would Cinco De Mayo be without a nod to Linda herself? Like, say, "La Charreada", for a little authentic Mariachi Madness:

Two soundtrack suites assembled on YouTube:
A very early one from John Williams--this one an assemblage of music he composed and conducted for a 1971 British/American made-for-TV version of Charlotte Bronte's classic novel Jane Eyre, which starred Susannah York and George C. Scott:
Then there's this one from Alfred Newman, the legendary film composer and patriarch of the famous Newman dynasty that includes David, Thomas, and Randy--the score for the 1963 all-star Western epic HOW THE WEST WAS WON, featuring the Ken Darby Singers, and an excerpt of Debbie Reynolds (one of the gazillion stars in this film) singing "Raise A Ruckus":

I'm sure everyone here has heard this one, but I think it's really underrated. Radio stations usually only play Can't fight this feeling, Take it on the run, and Keep on loving you by REO Speedwagon. Great singing and keyboard solo.

Rachel Reinert, a former member of the C&W band Gloriana, with "Ocean", sounding suspiciously like what one of Linda's early 1980's records might have sounded like had Alan Parsons produced it (IMHO):

I really like the above song. Thanks for posting, muse. I was not a big Zep fan (a few of the "hits" I like ok) but I did like Plant's solo albums when he first starting cutting them. I like the songs "Big Log" and "Burning Down One Side", amongst others. The Plant/Krauss song I can hear Linda do. The song is very retro and Duffy style, imo. Thanks again!!! eddiejinnj

Halloween is just about here, so it's time to revisit this one--the third movement of Bela Bartok's spooky "Music For Strings, Percussion, And Celesta", in this 1973 recording by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under Herbert von Karajan. Stanley Kubrick used it to an unnerving effect as part of the sinister soundscape of his 1980 horror film classic THE SHINING:

A great 1986 recording by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Andre Previn, of one of the 20th century's most popular symphonies, the Symphony No. 1 In D Major of Sergei Prokofiev. It is known as the "Classical Symphony" because Prokofiev, when he composed it in 1916-17, designed it as an homage to the late 18th century symphonies of Haydn and Mozart, combined with his own sense of wit, and utilizing orchestral forces no larger than what would have been heard during the Haydn/Mozart era:

The soundtrack to Steven Spielberg's 2021 re-imagining of WEST SIDE STORY, with the music of Leonard Bernstein and the lyrics of Stephen Sondheim given vivid new arrangements by David Newman, with the New York Philharmonic and members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic conducted here by Gustavo Dudamel. Featured here are the main cast members, including Ariana DuBose ("America"), Rita Moreno ("Somewhere"), Ansel Elgort ("Maria"), and no less than Maria herself, the scarifyingly beautiful-sounding Rachel Zegler ("Tonight" [with Elgort]; and "I Feel Pretty").

Some refer to this date, May 4th, in Star Wars terminology--as in May The 4th Be With You Day. But the Baby Boom generation has a different way of noting it. Fifty-two years ago, at an anti-Vietnam war protest, Ohio National Guard troops opened fire on a group of students at Kent State University, located 35 miles south of Cleveland. Thirteen students were wounded--four of them fatally.
So to mark this day:
"OHIO"--Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young
BEETHOVEN: SYMPHONY NO. 3 (EROICA)/II: MARCIA FUNEBRE--Cleveland Orchestra/George Szell (live recording from Severance Hall in Cleveland on May 7, 1970) BARBER: ADAGIO FOR STRINGS--Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra/Leonard Bernstein SCHUBERT: FUNERAL MARCH FROM "ADRAST"--Swedish Chamber Orchestra/Thomas Dausgaard HOW?--John Lennon

I listened to Whitney Houston's discography. I liked 3 songs:
One moment in time All the man I need I will always love you
I found her music to be too polished and similar sounding Definitely for the younger ager group-teens and 20's. Some of her songs reminded me of similar sounding tracks by Barry Manilow. I sense it's because Clive Davis was a part of Whitney's and Barry's careers.
