I don't know if this has been posted before, but I just discovered it on youtube. It says it was recorded during the Mad Love era and Linda sounds GREAT! This is what we fans have been waiting for! Her voice has never sounded better. I just can't understand why she thinks she doesn't sing rock and roll very well. This is off the charts...well, her voice anyway. I like the arrangement, but the song itself (written by JD Souther) doesn't have a good hook. I'm not complaining by any means...just grateful to her Linda singing what she sings best. Enjoy!

I think there's a mistake by whoever posted it on YouTube, because I believe it was actually intended for Living In The USA in 1978.

Rev, I am not sure how old you are or when you became a fan of Linda Ronstadt... But "Border Town" is on Disc 4 (Rarities) of the Linda Ronstadt Box Set. It was released in 1999. Here is a track listing from Tony's excellent website -- Track Listing for The Linda Ronstadt Box Set

Great song, prefer Falling Star ..... wish there were more unreleased to pop up! Of the unreleased studio tracks on Linda's Box Set, my favorite is "Bandit and a Heartbreaker." Yes, Fab, I wish someone would open up the vaults to more unreleased material.

What I find so interesting about this song is that:
1) Linda seems much more confident in her vocal styling. She is no longer the vulnerable, jilted lover and has taken on a slightly tougher, more worldly attitude.
2) The southern California rock sound has become more urbanized, going from acoustic guitars on the beach straight to the concrete on Sunset and Melrose (a la the Eagles' "Life in the Fast Lane").
I would reckon this was recorded post-"Living in the USA" and pre-"Mad Love". LOVE LOVE LOVE the sound (especially the guitars) and Linda's voice is so slick and mature. So reflective of the times.

I like it but she sounds a bit "shouty" (for want of a better made-up word) on this track ...

she rocks on this and sounds gr8. it is a well arranged country rock song and the theme of it good but some of the lyrics are dated. was listening to the police's "canary in a coalmine" and they mention their old vcr. time and technology roll on!!!!! eddiejinnj
