I know Linda mentioned the restaurant in her book and the people who own it and their kids are good friends of hers. In her book she mentioned that Lucy's was the best mexican restaurant in L.A...we tried Lucy's a couple of times.. I found the food to be like most mexican food chains in so ca.. kind of watered down. I didn't find the food to be all that great.. the re fried beans were bland and the enchiladas lacked flavor.. the salsa didn't stand out to me either. has anybody else here tried the food at Lucy's? I'm real picky about my food tho. and I like a lot flavor and spice.

I'm real picky about my food tho. and I like a lot flavor and spice. Dianna, I used to eat at Lucy's and always found the food good -especially the soup. I do not like very spicy food so that might have a lot to do with it. I also liked El Terasco in Venice ( also in El Segundo) and Cora's in West LA! What's you favorite Mexican restaurant in LA?

hmm Rob.. I never tried Lucy's soup.. and I love soup.. especially albondiga soup.. yum.. From what I remember Julian's in Hawaiian Gardens has pretty good food. we'd go there to get our pre made masa for the tamales and I did try their posole and nopales and it was pretty good. the tamales were okay..and their pan dulce (sweet bread) is pretty good too freshly made.. but you're right rob.. I find a lot of people don't care for really spicy food so they have to cater to the majority.

When I lived in Long Beach I sed to go to the local taco stand frequently...no matter what I redrew I always added "no chiles" lol.

well, It isn't supposed to be bland.. my complaint against Lucy's. and the salsa should not look like water with a little tomato blended.. the best salsa I've ever had. I make it to this day, which my grandmother used to make then my mother/aunts in a blender... contains 1 can of whole jalapenos including the juice and carrots (makes it hotter) 1 can of whole tomatoes, 1/2 a small garlic handful of cilantro (that adds a good flavor) a little more garlic salt to taste. It's simple, hot, spicy with a lot of flavor. no need to use habanero..
