The article in my 9/9/13 print issue of People was only one page (page 94). Is this an electronic web version of the article?

You think? (he said, rhetorically) (LOL). This is what editors are for. But I know, they're kind of pricey to have at a multi-million dollar corporation like People.

Yes, the electronic edition of the magazine is laid out differently to make it more readable on a tablet. And it changes depending on whether you are reading it portrait or landscape, but the information stays the same. The electronic edition has supplementary materials, such as letting you listen to song samples, purchasing CDs or downloads, and the 7 extra pictures.

It's funny how often she is now referred to as a "music legend" and "musical pioneer" since her diagnosis. I'm not carping about it -- we all have said the same thing for years -- but where were all these accolades, all of this recognition, during the last decade?
I'm going to quote Erik quoting Joni Mitchell: "You don't know what you've got till it's gone..."
Better late than never.

I think it is great that Linda can get to read and hear the accolades she well deserves.. So do I, Robert. And actually I get a kick out of reading them, too. What makes me scratch my head is that the only thing that's changed is that Linda can no longer sing. And it seems that this is what it takes for her to finally be acknowledged as the "singing legend" that she's been for decades. I mean, it wasn't that long ago that we were carping about her lack of recognition, and now critics and writers and magazines and newspapers -- everything from the New York Times to the National Enquirer -- all seem to be saying what we on this forum have always known. It almost seems as if her previous critical/public perception as the musical dilettante who covered other peoples' songs has instantaneously morphed into "music pioneer" whose voice "defined a generation." Naturally I'm thrilled about this, but at the same time the cultural meme-shift is fascinating, if bewildering.

Naturally I'm thrilled about this, but at the same time the cultural meme-shift is fascinating, if bewildering. It's a combination, I think, of guilt and the fact that since Linda had not had a hit record in some time, a case of being out of sight, out of mind. It takes an earthshaking sad event like a major illness or their death to call back attention to the performer who has had a lower profile. When plans for Linda's book was announced, there was some news media coverage, although not like the coverage she's been given since announcing she has Parkinson's. Had it been a happy story, like Linda all of sudden getting married, the news media's reaction probably would've been ho hum, so what else is new? Linda's announcement was out of left field and everyone was stunned and saddened by the news. The accolades should've always been there but as said, better late than never.

Quote by Richard W:
I also think that a lot of Linda's interests in the last decade have been in areas, even musically, that the national media wouldn't touch with a bargepole, including her involvement in the Hispanic music communities of the Bay Area. There was also only a smidgen of focus on her last two albums, Hummin' To Myself, and Adieu False Heart; most of the critics who reviewed both albums gave them very good reviews, but those two albums really weren't on the general radar screen. The only time that Linda got her name plastered all over the place was, of course, in July 2004--and, uh, I think we've already talked that one to death.
Still, I too am heartened by the attention that is now being paid to Linda, even if it is under just about the most tragic of circumstances. And some of the Twitter and Facebook postings from many of her peers in the business who had gotten word of her having come down with Parkinson's tell me that we are definitely not alone in our sorrow, or alone in the belief of Linda's greatness. These things are what we should keep in mind. The media, and the general public at large, always seem to be a lot slower than those who are in the know about Linda (IMHO).

I think to many many people especially those growing up in the 70's-80's know she is a legend and of course her peers know. of course, she should be played more and introduced more purposely to the latest generation or 2. hopefully, this at least accomplishes some of that though I would rather of course it not be because of illness as in Linda's case. eddiejinnj

I don't know, Slide, but Linda Ronstadt getting married would be news! Linda getting married would be news any time, but I think such coverage would've varied depending on when it happened. The biggest ripple in the news media would've been mid to late 70s through mid 80s, when she was at the top of her game. Late 60s to early 70s, when she was a rising star, I think she would've gotten a fair amount of publicity. I think she would still have gotten a fair amount of publicity when her popularity was waning in the 90s, but I still think there would've been some news media types whose idea would've been "Linda married? That's not news!" Still, Linda is so private that she could've gotten married at any time and not told anyone, and no one would've even known that she wasn't a single person. To that degree, I'm surprised she did reveal she suffers from Parkinson's disease but maybe she wanted her fans and friends to know why she wasn't performing and couldn't perform, and was willing to let down her privacy guard in this instance to let everyone know her decision to retire wasn't exactly voluntary.

Recalls the story from the Chicago Tribune many years back that falsely stated that Linda had married a doctor.
Still don't know where the writer got that falsehood from. I mean, it's almost as if he had to completely fabricate it.

I believe the case can be made now by the Baby Boom generation and those of us of the ensuing "Gen X" (myself included) who grew up listening to Linda in the 70s and 80s. I'm not sure there is only one right way of doing it (maybe start with the stuff of hers that's on YouTube), but it can be done (IMHO).

Hey guys, not sure where to post this but thought you would want to know. I saw on tv listings that Linda Ronstadt is appearing on The Rachel Ray Show on Friday 9-20. Hope it's true. I keep hoping she will be on some shows regarding her book.

I keep hoping she will be on some shows regarding her book. If that's true, I better set up the DVR for that appearance! (And wouldn't you know it, I am leaving for DC that day too in order to see Linda at the National Book Festival!)
