The latest unfortunate news from Linda is lighting up the twitter universe, and even has had her trending as #1 on Yahoo. First time she's achieved that since 2004, but let's not go there. Anyway, I found a couple of pictures on twitter that I had not seen before. The first one was taken while Western Wall was being recorded. I think the young man on the left is Tom DeSavia, who wrote the liner notes for Linda's box set. I hope he doesn't mind that I grabbed his photo. The second one was taken while accepting her honorary doctorate.

She looks so cute in her cap and gown. I'm still shocked over this news. I hope she's still able to lead a productive life and is happy. My thoughts and prayers go out to her.

So that's what a twitter looks like. Who is Bruno Mars? Not sure I want to know but I like the name. The Will Smith family reactions to Miley Cyrus says it all:

The VMA's, from what I gather, were just one gigantic strip show last night. Pathetic today's artist have become.
But I love the tweets how unfair it is about Linda's illness while dissing Miley SIGHrus. She needs help.

But I will say that those people said everything I wanted to say. How unfair is life when Linda Ronstadt loses her singing voice, and trash like Miley Cyrus and her kind are what we are left with. There is no justice in this world. Absolutely none!

Some other "tweets" of note:
Rita Wilson (Tom Hanks' missus): "I am so very sad to hear Linda Ronstadt can't sing due to Parkinson's. I always thought I would hear her gorgeous voice live one more time."
Rosanne Cash: "Linda Ronstadt can't sing. It's NOT ACCEPTABLE. Going to play Heart Like A Wheel, on repeat."

I've even defended ms hannah montana on occasion and I'm pretty open minded when it comes to expressing yourself through music/art.. but that was just crap.. it wasn't even sexy.. it was comical in a sad, trashy and desperate way.. I'm sure old billy ray doesn't care, since she's their meal ticket.

Some more from the Twitter Cosmos:
British rock legend Peter Frampton ("Baby I Love Your Way", etc.): "Sad news to hear. Her voice is such a rich legacy for us all. Love to u Linda.."
Current alt-country/rock "young'un" Caitlin Rose (whom I've talked up here because of her big worship of Linda; her reaction was understandably extreme): "The most joyful noise has been silenced and I can't stop crying. No one can top this."

In the above pic from Western Wall, Linda's former manager Ira Koslow is the bald guy standing next to Tom Desavia. Standing next to Ira is my friend Rique, who was the stylist of Western Wall album cover.
Singer Maria McKee from Lone Justice posted the following on facebook: "i learned how to sing, singing to her. and SHE'S the one who told david geffen about me. i owe her sweet heart and epic voice much." - August 24, 2013, 12:11 pm

A wonderful gesture from Maria, who I always thought was one of the most underrated female singers of the last 40 years and who, also like Linda, was a believer in the idea of having an eclectic musical pallet. Kudos!

Another pair of Twitter posts, the first from singer/songwriter Gretchen Peters (she wrote "Independence Day" for Martina McBride):
"23 Aug Just so sad to hear the news about Linda Ronstadt. One of the great voices of my generation."
Matraca Berg (she who wrote "Walk On", which Linda covered, much to M.B.'s delight):
25 Aug Played Heart Like a Wheel on guitar and cried. Went for a drive and found an ewock on Harding. Swear #Linda forever

Yeah, what's up with Emmylou discussion forum. She is much more active in the business than Linda, has been on tour for months, and her fans don't discuss anything. Yet we babble on for years between Linda projects. Are we obsessed?

Nothing from Dolly, Emmylou, Jimmy Webb, Aaron Neville??? But I guess some of these might have known for months ?. The impression I get from one of the articles that has been posted on Linda's illness is that she didn't tell her friends in the music industry, so it's likely many of them were hit with the same sense of shock, numbness and sadness that Linda's fans are dealing with, but as close friends or musical associates of Linda's, they may be dealing with the news a little harder. Some may even feel some anger at Linda for not telling them, like Emmylou, who I think Linda had said had asked her to join her onstage at a concert to sing with her and Linda declined, citing her inability to sing. Of course, there's no reason to feel anything but a lot of love and sympathy for Linda. As I mentioned in another post, who knows what she felt when she was first told the nature of her illness? She had to come to grips with her illness before she could tell anyone else (outside of her own family) - the news hit her the hardest, but she has shared the news of her medical condition with the world. And all her friends now know why she couldn't join them when they invited her. They don't need to post or release a comment about Linda's health problem. Just join with the many who are wishing the best for her and keeping her in their thoughts and prayers or (if they don't believe in God) sending out some good vibes her way.

I think those who are very close friends of Linda's know that she keeps a lot of things close to the vest, so to speak; and of course Linda herself had to figure out how to process this in her own mind. They just may not know quite what to say--just as I think a lot of us didn't when we learned about it.

I agree but had to wonder just how many of them realized there may have been something wrong, but in which nothing was said because they may have figured Linda would've told them if anything was wrong? Whoever the musician was who saw just how badly Linda was doing and encouraged her to get to a doctor, may have saved her life.

According to what she said in the AARP interview, she wasn't diagnosed with Parkinson's until June. So until that time her singing (dis)abilities could have been attributed to any of her other health issues (tick-borne disease, shoulder surgery, diabetes, Hatsimoto's) etc.). So everyone else, like Linda herself, didn't know what was the cause of the problem, only that there was one.
I remember that Jimmy Webb interview where he talked about Linda singing on his album and he eluded to some serious health issue affecting her voice. Of course, that was probably a reference to the tick-borne disease, something else we didn't -- and couldn't -- know about until just the other day.

My guess is that her close friends probably knew....but respecting her privacy and her right to disclosure her own info on her own terms...probably kept quiet. After all..that is what good friends do..they respect the friendship.

I believe she mentioned that between 2-3 years ago but the way time moves these days it could have been longer.
