Remembering Jason's thread on Give One Heart and how a lot of you liked Linda counting off the song in the beginning, as well as my thread on You're No Good and how the "I'm telling you now baby" part of the song gives me chills, it got me wondering of what other moments in Linda's songs I enjoy.
Mine are the following (for now) but always subject to change:
- La Cigarra--the way she holds those notes for so long and just the power of her voice is incredible
- All That You Dream-- how she sings the line "what else can you do" particularly live
- Hurts So Bad--The last NO!!! of the song is so powerful and moreso live when she screams it much longer
- Ooh Baby Baby--sultry vocals throughout especially the falsetto oohs and the sax playing induces goose pimples everytime
- You Tell Me That I am Falling Down--love, love this song. The bridge (?) of I am exactly what I am I dig especially since there's a time change there
- Oh No, Not My Baby--the only problem with this song is that it's not long enough! Seems it's over before I know it!
Of course, there's more, but these get me.
So what are some of your favourite moments?

This is where you'll probably get dozens of different "moments" being named by folks here, because Linda has had at least that many in her career. Most of them are fairly dramatic moments, though she doesn't succumb to overdoing it for vocal showboating.
I guess two moments I'd start off with are from Don't Cry Now:
"Desperado": "You better let somebody love you/let somebody love you, before it's too late"--such a powerful moment, by which she basically co-owns this song with her favorite in-house desperadoes who wrote it.
"Colorado": "I wanna come home/let me come home"--she slips into a haunting falsetto in that last line, as the song fades out on a bed of strings and pedal steel, almost as if you're witnessing a sunset in the Colorado mountains.
Those two songs have a feel of what it's like to grow up as Linda did on the wide-open spaces of the American West.

Great choices by the way. Here are my two cents.... Sometimes you just Cant win - Off "Get Closer" duet with JD Souther. "The clouds fill the sky's You can't believe your eyes Sometimes you just can't wiiiehehiiiiiin." Back on the Street Again - With the Stone Ponies - Great song. Simple. I Just don't Know What to Do with Myself - Well produced song...Clean. "just don't know!" My Funny Valentine - A Simple Voice and a String quartet Mohammed's Radio - "Hoping that the righteous might just Might just, might just, might just come" Simple Man, Simple Dreams - "Simple Song, Simple Lyrics, Unique vocal take"

wow there are so many moments of her songs to choose from. For me those moments are actually sung live. 2 moments off hand.. For instance, I can't help it, with George Jones.. A picture from the past came slowly stealing... goosebumps .. The muppet show, "blue Bayou" first chorus w/o background singing.. when she breaks into.. I'm going back some day..... Having never visited louisiana, you can feel her longing for that bayou she sings about.. makes you want to go there and check it out. Her upper range in both songs I mentioned, WOW! That voice/range just feeds my need. lol

Anyone Who Had A Heart: ....take me, in his arms and, always love me...

very interesting topic.. for today...
Telling Me Lies... 'a woman's a fooool for weeping' Further Along .... the way she says 'wicked' is amazing Give One Heart.... the famous '123 go' Adios... the last lingering bittersweet 'Adios' Straighten Up and Fly right..... her knowing reading of 'sounds like a lie' You Took Advantage of Me.... 'lock the doors and call me yours'... so seductive! Trouble Again (so underrated and overlooked).. the stretching of 'bliiiiiiiiiiind'.. and she did this live also...

The part of My Dear Companion where Linda comes in singing "I wish I were a Swallow flying"...and then Dolly joins with "I'd join the wild birds in their crying, thinking of you and your sweet face". I have heard that for 25 years and it STILL gives me chills.
I would also add her vocals on "All I Know" with Jimmy Webb. She caresses those words and sings with such amazing compassion.
One more I would add is "Winter Light". I was never really thrilled with this song, in fact, I often skipped over it when listening to her cd's. But lately, and I'm not sure why, I find this song hauntingly beautiful. It pops into my head at the strangest times, like an angel whispering in my ear or something.

Wow! Lots of great moments that's for sure!
A couple more:
- What's New--the end , especcially right where she pauses then sings "I still love yooouuuuu so." Spectacular!
- How Do I make You--when she's belting out "Dream about me," particularly the times where she almost screams the word "Dream." That rocks!

I would agree with just about every song moment that's been mentioned here. But a few of my personal favorites are:
1. Adios - No matter how many times I hear it, that ending just gets me every time............the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. Linda sounds like an angel, and I don't know how anyone can listen to this and not get teary-eyed, because I do.
2. Winter Light - The way she sings the song throughout is simply beautiful.........words just can't describe it. Again........her voice is from the heavens.
3. Give One Heart - As I mentioned on the other thread, I love the 1-2-3-GO! A nice way to start off the song, but more than anything, her voice is just so darn cute!
4. I Will Always Love You - The last "I will always love you." So beautiful and so sweet, and she almost sounds like she's crying, as she sounds in so many others. You can hear the passion, the emotion in her voice. I don't care what people say about Whitney Houston's version.........it will never compare to Linda's........she owns this song and always will IMO.
5. Heatwave - I know Linda doesn't care for this song, or her version anyway........but I have to include it here. It was a huge hit, and the YEAH-YEAH's at the end are classic.........love that signature growl of hers.
6. Party Girl - Love the song throughout, but the ending is one of the most incredible things I've ever heard. "I could give you anything, I would give you anything, I can give you anything but, TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIMMMMMMME, TIIIIIIIIIIIIIMMMMMMMMME, TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIMMMMMMMMMME, TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIMMMMME!!!!!!!!!! What amazing volume, control, and POWER!!! PHENOMENAL!!!
I will list some more later, but that's just a sample. I could come up with so many! I don't know if there's enough time to list them all!

Some other moments of note:
"I'll Be Seeing You": "In everything that's light and gay/I'll always think of you that way"--for some reason (probably just because of Linda herself, I guess), it is as hard not to get choked up by this particular moment as it is for the climax of "I Will Always Love You."
"Try Me Again"--"And you say you've tried/and you know you've lied/My hands are tied/Ohhhhh, try me again." Since it is literally her song, she occupies it in a way that is indescribable (IMHO).
"Willing"--"And if you give me (pause) weed, whites, and wine/and you show me a sign/then I'll be willin'/to be movin'." Somehow it feels right that a Western-born gal like Linda feels right at home doing a truck drivin' anthem, even with the politically incorrect references to pills and spirits. I'd like to see Miranda Lambert take this on (LOL).

Everything mentioned here (seriously, everything), plus that high note on "still" in the line "I still love you like I did" on I Keep It Hid.

I'm probably gonna catch hell.. but willing and even moreso Carmelita (as much as I love the vocals) The way she sings it, I don't picture Linda living this lifestyle or it being authentic to me.. her voice is just too pretty and sober to come off as a hard living junkie.. I do prefer warren's version, it seems more realistic..

I think it's just merely a case of her inhabiting the character, something I think she has done over the length of her career, even when, as in the case of "Willing", she's not into that dissolute lifestyle. She still seems to know what she's singing about (IMHO).

If I wasn't already singing with the song I chime in on these parts:
From The Waiting:
Oh, don't let it kill you babe Don't let it get to you Don't let it kill you babe Don't let it get to you I'll be your bleeding heart, I'll be your crying fool Don't let this go too far don't let it get to you I said, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah"
From Lago Azul:
Amorcito mio a mi lado estas luna de plata, agua de cristal ya podre olvidar el cruel dolor que me hace llorar y contenta estare mi amor mio en lago azul.
From El Crucifijo De Piedra:
Ante el Cristo... fui a implorar Al contemplar mi tristeza El crucifijo de piedra Tambien se puso a llorar
From Mentir Salome:
Mentira Salomé no está llorando Mentira La mentira de tus penas Mentira Nunca ha sido mujer buena Mentira Con humano corazón Mentira Impostora de caricias Mentira Ay Salomé Salo salomé Salomé
From The Water Is Wide:
There is a ship And she sails the sea She's loaded deep As deep can be But not as deep As the love I'm in I know not if I sink or swim
From Back In The USA:
Did I miss the skyscrapers Did I miss the long freeway From the coast of California To the shores of the Delaware Bay You can bet your life I did Till I got back to the USA
Go Away From My Window:
I'll go and tell my brothers I'll tell my sister too The reason why my heart is broke Is on account of you Is on account of you I'll give you back your letters I'll give you back your ring But I'll never forget my own true love As long as songbirds sing As long as songbirds sing
From When I Stop Dreaming:
The worst that I've ever been hurt In my life The first time I ever have Wanted to die Was the night when you told me You loved someone else And you asked me if I could forget When I stop dreaming That's when I'll stop loving you Well You can teach all the flowers To bloom in the snow You may take a pebble And teach it to grow You can teach all the raindrops To return to the clouds But you can't teach my heart To forget
From Nobodys:
Sooner or later she told me I am in love again, truly this time Nothing at home left to hold me The city's just great and the world treats me fine Didn't she think I heard that old refrain before She's lying and she knows it She's lying and she shows it on the outside now Whatever happened to the girl that was Did she go inside because it's cold out here

Everytime I listen to Linda and her songs, I always find something new that just gets me emotionally, physically, musically, (insert adverb). But that could be said for anybody on this board!
In Lose Again, when the line "But You're Keeping Me Going" is sung, that is incredible. Especially in the last verse. Oh heck, the whole last verse particularly the last line of the song!
I also like the 8-beat pause in "I Think It's Gonna Work Out Fine."
(As an aside, in the third verse of Only Mama That'll Walk The Line (studio version) when she sings "And when I start a-walkin' gonna hear you start a-squawkin'," the first time I heard this, and not knowing the lyrics, I thought she said the f-word for squawkin! Which delighted me, because, wow, Linda's swearing on a record! Then I remembered Tumbling Dice with "crap" & "bitchin" in it!
Ah, my kind of girl! )

I like this 15-second section of this Jimmy Webb song- she chops off one word abruptly and then follows with some beautiful phrasing:
Adios

Some more moments worthy of consideration (IMHO):
"I Fall To Pieces"--at the end where she just belts out "Well, you walk byyyyy....and I fall to pieces", in an almost spastic way.
"Love Is A Rose"--"Give me a lift, and I'll hay your wagon" (she sings "your" as "yer", of course)

I've always loved Emmylou's version of "When I Stop Dreaming" but I love Linda's bootleg just as much, especially -- and this is one of those moments -- the way she adds the extra oomph to "I" in the chorus. Just lovely.

Two more, both from Winter Light:
"A River For Him: "I crossed on the river, there'll be no returning/I crossed all the bridges, I watched them all burning." There's a certain poignancy (folk/country-influenced, but then it's a good friend who wrote the song) that I hadn't really heard in Linda for a while.
"Adonde Voy": The final repeating of the main chorus, which, combined with the arrangement and the fact that it's in a minor key, gives one a picture of the kind of despair people face when trying to cross from Mexico into the United States. It took me a long time to really like this song because I thought she had emphasized her Mexican-American heritage far too much over the previous several years.

I will add a few more from "Winter Light" that I'm not sure anyone mentioned yet. "Do What You Gotta Do": Great song, and I think I saw a video on YouTube of her singing this live. But what is absolutely incredible is the last line near the end of the song, "Come on back, and see me when you caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!!!!!! She held that for 12 seconds! So unbelievable!! And then ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Another 7 seconds. Words just can't describe it. I wish I could have heard Linda do it live in person. "I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself": Again......Linda nails this song.......even better than Dusty Springfield. She has such volume throughout the song, but the very last line, "I don't know whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat else to do!!!! When she hits a high note like that, it's easy to see how she got her voice to that level from her training for "The Pirates of Penzance." She could have been an opera singer. "Don't Talk (Put Your Head on My Shoulder)": I don't know what else to say about this song, only that Linda has the most sultry, sexiest voice I've ever heard. When I listen to this I just simply melt. If she sang this song to me I would be like putty in her hands.
