From The Second Disc --
From one of Olivia Newton-John's final recording sessions comes a lustrous new recording of Dolly Parton's "Jolene," with Parton lending her voice in support of her friend Olivia. The vibrant track previews Newton-John's posthumous compilation, Just the Two of Us: The Duets Collection, Volume One, due May 5. Other duet partners on the set reportedly include Michael McDonald, John Travolta, Barry Gibb, Mariah Carey, Jon Secada, and Newton-John's daughter Chloe Lattanzi.

Doesn’t look like they are in studio together but I can’t be sure.

I was wondering if this was an actual duet or a patchwork duet since Olivia also recorded Jolene on one of her '70s albums. This single was #25 on itunes chart last time I checked.

It's a good thing that Olivia and Dolly got "Jolene" in under the wire while the chance was there.
I don't know if anyone can call it one of those missed opportunity things, but I always thought it a shame that 'Livvy and Linda never got to sing together, at least insofar as any of us knows. Still, the Olivia/Dolly "Jolene" is a great thing to have all the same (IMHO).

I don't know if anyone can call it one of those missed opportunity things, but I always thought it a shame that 'Livvy and Linda never got to sing together, at least insofar as any of us knows. Still, the Olivia/Dolly "Jolene" is a great thing to have all the same (IMHO). It was a missed opportunity and perhaps a bit strange that Olivia and Linda never took the chance to record together, given they were friends in the 70s, it appeared. Still, who can say? Perhaps they did try to record something together and their voices just didn't blend well together? Olivia had perfect pitch, so she would've been ready from the word go, whereas Linda in the 70s and 80s had become the perfectionist in wanting her vocal to be just right. I could've seen Olivia laying down her vocal and being satisfied and Linda not being satisfied and wanting to go again. I believe Olivia would've given whatever time Linda felt she needed to get her part right, but I also believe it would've been a one time only effort. Olivia had worked with another perfectionist, one Barry Gibb, and she was said to be extremely frustrated by his quest for perfectionism when it came to the music in the recording studio. They were friends and she was considered family, given the similar lives they lived. But, she was not a fan of spending a lot of time working on one song.
