According to Rolling Stone’s report (March 22, 2021), the sale “includes name and likeness to promote the masters.” I’m not sure that would include a film biography or use of her image outside promoting the masters.

If the streaming activity for "Long Long Time" keeps up, Billboard speculates that it may end up on a couple of the magazine's sales charts in short order: www.billboard.com/pro/linda-ronstadt-long-long-time-last-of-us-sales-streams-gains/It should be said that Linda's last appearance on the magazine's Hot 100 singles chart was with "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby", with Aaron Neville, which peaked at #77 in June 1990.

Just finished watching the video of Seth Rudetsky "deconstructing" "Long Long Time," both the song and Linda's performance of it, and I can't fault Mr. Rudetsky's wealth of musical knowledge and his ability to riff on the piano so quickly. He takes exception to the lyric "Life's full of flaws." Does that bother anyone else? Life isn't always a bed of roses. The other thought I had watching this was that he talks about "the top of Linda's range," but he's talking about 1970, it would be interesting if he "deconstructed" something Linda recorded later in her career when Linda was singing much higher notes. However, he probably wouldn't want to take on "Freezing."

I didn’t understand his comment about “Life’s full of flaws” either. I think he said “just ignore it “ because it’s “a downer.” Unlike the rest of the song?

I'm surprised Rudetsky had an issue with the word "flaws" being a downer. The whole song is sad and melancholy. Would the word "loss," as the way it was originally written have had a different impact? Anyhow, I watched the episode of "The Last of Us" last night and the use of the song is very touching. I mainly got teary and nostalgic about Linda, though, instead of the meaning in the storyline, but it was well-done. The character of Joel asks the 14 year-old Ellie if she knows who Linda Ronstadt is, and she says no. That was a cute moment at the end of the episode.

I watched 3 episodes of The Last Of Us yesterday - it’s kind of strange but I guess it could grow on me ( no pun intended ) 😂
The “Long Long Time” episode though is completely wonderful … beautiful and touching, yet dark and sad. I’m pleased when there is any renewed interest in Linda and the number of posts on Instagram has increased hugely in the time since it aired.
Anything that gives Linda some love is fine with me ❤️😍🥰

I found the above vid cool from a fan perspective on the whole. I see no biggie in the lyric thing. I just said it is his opinion like the glowing ones. You can tell he is a huge fan from his own admission and actions. On the whole, I focus on the fact that he referred the song for the episode. eddiejinfl

I learned a lot from his deconstruction and it made me love the song even more. Explaining that her signature cry/belt is much more than turning up the volume and has things in common with Jewish and Irish folk music. His take on how the song ends (but really doesn’t) I found fascinating too. I could listen to that guy for hours. He’s engaging, enthusiastic and knows his shit. When I see reaction videos they often conclude with someone saying they love her and then it’s over, but he digs deep and explains what she’s doing with almost every phrase.I think Linda might actually like that clip, she’d be glad for all the credit he gives to Gary White and might appreciate the scholarly spin he puts it as he breaks down how the vocals were done and why they are so effective. .

With the resurgence of interest of Linda's version of "Long Long Time," it made me wonder if the people who only have a passing interest/curiosity in Linda Ronstadt will think of her more than "just" "Blue Bayou" and "You're No Good" and "Heatwave" and "Don't Know Much." When my last iPhone died, I went to my Apple Store to get a replacement and the salesman was discussing music and I brought up Linda Ronstadt and he said something about my "being stuck in the 1970s." AS IF she is frozen there. But back to my original point, I wonder if more people will consider "Long Long Time" as a signature Linda song. Am grateful she is here to see this appreciation.

If “Long Long Time” does chart I wonder if it would the longest span of time (53 years) for a song’s original recording by the same artist to chart. Does anyone know? I know other songs have charted again (“The Twist” being one example) but 53 years seems like the longest span.

So great that the song is charting again, but why midway through the article do they start spelling her name as "Rondstadt." It's poor editing and infuriating--Grrrr....
P.S. I sent Copper Courier a message on Instagram about the misspelling. I hope they correct it.

If I said it once. I've said it a thousand frigging times: After fifty-six years of being in the spotlight, it is totally inexcusable for any publication to be misspelling her last name, and I don't care how, by whom, or why it is still being done.
And since the Copper Courier is in Linda's own home state, it just compounds things (IMHO).

They should all be fixed now, We apologize for the error." They should be ashamed of such a careless and glaring error.

I thought I read it pretty through. It doesn't say where she placed on chart, no? They said that LLT was Linda's first charting Billboard single. I guess they mean solo. I think "Up to My Neck......" charted but that is considered a SP song. eddiejinfl

I must say that I really enjoyed Seth Rudetsky's analysis of "Long Long Time." He's very knowledgeable about music and appreciates Linda's interpretation so much. It made me laugh in a way because he praises her phasing so emphatically, as opposed to Linda's viewpoint: “I can remember the day I recorded ‘Long, Long Time.’ It was 10:30 in the morning, but I was really into this kind of achy feeling, because the music—it’s in these chords. I think my phrasing was horrible,” she said. “I think I kind of butchered it, but it is definitely in those chords." As I've said before, Linda's phrasing and vocal choices were spot on, and the cry in her voice is the cherry on the top. The song is stellar, and as close to "perfection" as you can get. I'm so glad it's getting this much publicity again, as it deserves its rightful place as a timeless musical gem.

It amazes me that someone could write an analysis of a song’s lyrics and not once say who wrote the song.

But one person wrote this song- Gary White. Aren't most great songs just written by one real songwriter?

“One person wrote this song.” Which is why it’s so beautiful that Bonnie Raitt won “Song of the Year” last night for “Just Like That.” The only nominated song with one writer. It matters (at least it does to me) when a song isn’t written by committee.

I just looked at Billboard and iTunes charts. I don't see LLT on Billboard but it is #9 on iTunes Charts Top 100 Songs!

Quote by John:
It may still be another week or so before it shows up again on any of Billboard's singles charts, if it indeed does. The fact that it's still in the Top 10 on iTunes ten days after that episode aired is, however, quite remarkable.
And just saying that is an understatement, considering that Linda recorded that song fifty-three years ago.
