I can't necessarily argue with these choices. It's just kind of odd, though, that her two hits with Aaron Neville ("Don't Know Much"; "All My Life") and the one with James Ingram ("Somewhere Out There") are not on here. But then those are Adult Contemporary, and we're talking about Classic Rock here.
But anyway gang....
Re. "Stay Away" (Toto): Given that she is on there in the chorus, singing the song's title, I don't get why Toto didn't release it as the second single from the album (after "Pamela"). Yes, it was 1988; and at that time, Linda was in the process of bringing Canciones De Mi Padre on tour; but this still sounded like a late 80's hit to me, Incidentally, the group's lead singer on that song was Joseph Williams, whose father is Hollywood's all-time greatest composer of film music, John Williams.
Re. "Excitbale Boy": They might have mentioned that Warren smuggled in both Linda and a near-sound-alike Jennifer Warnes to do the backing vocals. In all, given the nature of Zevon's lyrics and his twisted sense of really jet-black humor, this is likely the most graphic and grotesque song Linda ever set her vocals to. Fun all the same, just...GRAPHIC.

bit of a strange list I suppose ..... on most Linda is very much tucked away in a background - bit of a stretch to call most of these collaborations

On some of these songs, Linda is buried pretty far back. This looks like Click-Bait (in my humble opinion). I like that they included "Under African Skies" with Paul Simon. And the live "All That You Dream" that is on her box set. Here are some that I would have placed on my list --

The "All that You Dream" live cut, is it a collaboration or just Linda doing a live version of the song with her band/show? If it is the one on the box set, I thought that was just a live version from one of her tours? Is it from the Lowell George tribute concert? eddiejinnj

Never heard that backup vocal with Toto before. I've always enjoyed the collaboration with The Hudson Brothers on "Afraid to Love" but that's rarely mentioned, so maybe I have 'bad taste.'

Listening for Linda, and her contribution enhances a performance are my criteria.
For Andrew Gold I would choose "Can't Get Over Losing You" from his album "1951".
Paul Simon can stay, excellent song.
"The Water is Wide" from David Sanborn's "Love Songs" album.
"Gainesville" from "Randy Newman's Faust" (also "Box Set" Rarities CD)
"Please Remember Me" from Aaron Neville's "To Make Me Who I Am" album.
so far...

Agree with some of the list, but others worth considering..
Also with Neil Young, Hangin' on a Limb, from the Freedom album..
Randy Newman live - Texas Girl at the Funeral of her Father - a stunner .

Most of those in the article I do not consider as "collaborations." Trio was a collaboration. Western Wall was a collaboration. Heart of Gold was not a collaboration because Linda was not a part of the creative process-- she was just hired to be a background vocalist-- and she did a fine job. But I am just arguing semantics. I decided to make my own list of what I consider Linda's 10 best tracks on other folks' records-- not necessarily collaborations but tracks where her presence made a world of difference. Here are my Top 10 choices:
Hoyt Axton - When the Morning Comes
The Dirt Band- An American Dream
Earl Scruggs- Rock Salt and Nails (with Tracy Nelson)
Johnny Rivers- Geronimo's Cadillac
Neil Young- Heart of Gold
Aaron Neville- Please Remember Me
Bette Midler- Sisters
Warren Zevon- Excitable Boy
Yanka Rupkina- Angel in the Morning
Homer Simpson- Funny How Time Slips Away

We are so lucky that Linda has such a prolific varied catalog. heartbreaker, I just edited your post to reflect the song is entitled "Gainesville" not "Gainsborough". My Dad at his place (God rest his soul) picked up Gainesville radio. eddiejinnj

"Will You Still Believe In Me" (A Christmas Spirit) with The Turtles . I need to find that on vinyl or CD somewhere. "Afraid To Love" with the Hudson Brothers

Linda's barely discernible in Toto, in the chorus harmonising. Was that track (or album) recorded at Skywalker Studios, because there is a George Lucas connection, apart from Linda's engagement to him. Lead singer of Toto was Joseph Williams, son of composer John Williams of Star Wars etc fame. Linda might have been around & been asked or volunteered.

Just listened to Johnny Rivers 1974 album Road which contains three great contributions from Linda on Geronimo’s Cadillac (mentioned earlier in thread),Wait a Minute & I Like Your Music.Linda obviously liked Geronimo’s Cadillac enough to perform it once in concert at The Troubadour,March 21st 1972.Pity she didn’t record it herself, great record covered by many.

I am still finding Linda I have not heard before. Some of her duets collaborations on others' albums are better than on her own, Aaron Neville being a good example.
