The professional sports community out here in Los Angeles has lost an icon. Tommy Lasorda, who managed the Dodgers from 1977 to 1996, and continued to serve the team long afterwards, passed away today at the age of 93. He oversaw the team's two World Series wins in 1981 and 1988, and thankfully lived long enough to see them do it again less than three months ago:
"I think honesty is of the first, utmost importance in art... any art. After that comes technique and... after that comes talent. Honesty is first. All the rest of the things are important, too, but they're secondary. Without honesty, I don't care how much technique you have, you have nothing."--Linda Ronstadt
