Did anyone else watch "Jimmy Carter: Rock 'n' Roll President" on CNN?
Linda is shown and, at one point, a live recording of Linda singing "When Will I Be Loved?" is played. The people shown as being on Jimmy Carter's side are Willie Nelson, Jimmy Buffett, The Allman Brothers, among others. It also has a present-day interview with Jann Wenner and, it seems as if "Rolling Stone" was pulling for Carter. Carter says that Hunter S. Thompson was around a lot. Carter says that the Democratic "establishment" had about 10 other candidates running against him, including Jerry Brown and that Brown had Linda Ronstadt and The Eagles. Rosanne Cash is shown in present-day interviews talking about how her Dad and step-mother were big supporters of Jimmy Carter. At one point, Rosanne Cash says something like "I LOVE Ronstadt, but why would anyone think it was a good idea to have The Eagles out there for you?" (I am paraphrasing here.) Also shown is the Inaugural Gala at which Linda performed, but you would never know it from this documentary. Two performances are shown: Paul Simon singing "American Tune" and Aretha Franklin singing "God Bless America." I think it would have been smart of the documentary filmmakers to have shown that despite the fact that Linda Ronstadt had campaigned for Jerry Brown (who is shown along with Tom Bradley as coming around to support Carter in the 1976 election) that Carter was a unifier and that Linda had performed at the Gala. Interesting to me was to see people like Charlie Daniels and Minnie Pearl out stumping for Carter.
