Thank you. I do agree about the "Talking Heads" being trite and patronising, to an extent. The PC angle was not really there, as much as the article implies, but Linda's determination does. SoMV is to me a tribute to her tenacity and determination, to achieve her ambitions. Linda's bit in the "Laurel Canyon" documentary, is better in some ways, less gushy. I had watched & read so much before SoMV, that there was nothing new for me.

I would guess the person writing the review is a Republican and doesn't care for Linda because of her politics and I am sure the writer feels the same way about the producers for the Celluloid Closet about homosexuality in Hollywood, Common Threads: Stories From The Quilt about the AIDS epidemic/AIDS quilt as well as their documentary The Times of Harvey Milk the openly gay mayor of San Francisco that was gun down. The review of The Sound of My Voice stinks of it IMO.

The review of The Sound of My Voice stinks of it IMO. Armond White is a film and music critic known for his controversial reviews. It appears as is he's stirring the pot here with his review of SOMV. I would rather hear Linda speak for herself in this film, rather than sound bites of the interviewees they chose. The film seems to have mixed messages and a muddled point of view to some extent. As we have discussed, there's nothing earth shattering revealed in this film, but exposing Linda's wealth of music to others is worth the price of admission.

It was defintely a biased/bigoted review. Great that SoMV won its award, 2 fingers up to that reviewer.
I suspect Linda has/is being vetoed by the right wing mob every time CMHoF nominations are made. I expect Linda doesn't care, but be nice to have her enrolled all the same.

If I get it wrong I am not paraphrasing correctly but my friend, Rob, he said they don't admit too many people at a time in the CMHoF. It seems to be hard to get into. Am I correct? eddiejinnj

The part about the Country Music Hall of Fame not letting in too many people at a time is very true...and quite frankly, it is to the Hall's, and the music's detriment (IMHO). To only have five people per year in all put in there has resu;ted in a huge backlog of deserving artists and musicians being shut out. It almost makes the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame seem like a Super Bowl party.
As for Linda being denied entry into the Hall of Fame because the voters are all a bunch of right-wingers, which Linda definitely isn't--well, I think it is easy to believe, given the genre's historically conservative sociological and political bent, but it is a bit harder to actually prove. If Linda is being denied entry, even with all of the influence she has had on the genre since the early 1970's, it may have more to do with the fact that she never identified herself as a country singer in the strictest Nashville sense of the word. And she indeed isn't country, in that strict definition. Should she be inducted, especially if her Trio pals do a campaign of persuasion? Absolutely. Will she show up for such an induction? That's a whole other matter....but one never knows.

Other inductees are in much earlier, while others are posthumously. Linda could not go for health reasons now, whether she would, if able, I am dubious of.

"Trio" is "Dolly & Friends". Ree! Diculous! The only reason that album was a smash was because of Linda Ronstadt's presence. Album of the Year nominee at the Grammy Awards. Linda had been nominated for that but Emmylou and Dolly never got a nod in that category before or after. Linda was the one who had the long string of million-sellers at the time. This was Emmylou's only platinum album to date if I'm not mistaken. And the best selling single from the album, although not the highest charting one, was the one with a Linda Ronstadt vocal at the center. Telling Me Lies. But Dolly certainly held her own on the album. She was highlighted well, but it was definitely a Trio, not a Dolly and Friends.

I agree with you completely Tony when it comes to the Trio album. Linda sold that album every bit as much as the other two did if not more. Without Linda I would have been surprised if the album would of sold gold at that time. Sure now, Dolly is EVERYWHERE, then, not so much. Sure she has a television show but that show was very short lived in 1987 and went down like a sinking ship.

Good to know that then. Here in the UK, "Trio" was always in the Dolly Parton section for country music, not under Emmylou or Linda (who was always under "Country" as well). In photos of the 3, Dolly is placed as eyecatch #1, either centre or left.
Linda with her big eyes and slightly demure smile is an eyecatch, and Emmylou's lean more Joni Mitchell-like dignity is notable for the least cheesecakey look. This from my hetero-male perspective.
But the whole of Trio is greater than the sum of its people definitely. I am so glad Linda got Trio II done, eventually, we owe her a lot. I have the Complete Trio CD set, great listening.
Should "Trio" get a pavement star or other award though, do you think the members will get equal billing? Alphabetically for first name, Dolly is 1st, Linda 3rd, and Linda is 3rd again for family name.

Holly: To our knowledge and I bring this one up a bit, the Star is not there yet and we have heard of no ceremony, pics involved etc. If you or anybody knows otherwise that would be great. eddiejinnj
