Nice mention, and extra props for recognizing Linda as the first female alternative country artist

But why the headline "...Unpacks the Truth About a Mexican Music Star"?
She's not Mexican, she's American.
Unless no one no longer is American.

Yes, they are kind of guilty of that. Linda is a proud American who happens to be of Mexican ancestry, something that should never be lost down the rabbit hole by any publication, Latino or otherwise.

A Latino perspective: belatina.com/linda-ronstadt-the-sound-of-my-voice-2/Sweet appreciation but clearly inaccurate research (the time of her fame -" Late 60s to early 70s?"). Wrong. The writer seems to have cut and pasted passages she just read from wiki. Probably very young, no copy editor etc.

Agree, Erik.
I'm 1/4 Italian (with a maternal grandfather named Pasquale Monaco, first generation American) and while I'm proud of that Italian ancestry, I'd call into question any publication who referred to me as "Italian" as opposed to American.

Has Linda ever gone into detail about her German background? I'd love to hear about it. I'm half German and half Ukrainian.

I don't know to what extent she has talked about the German side of her heritage, although she has occasionally talked about certain works of classical music of the Austro-German world, from Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert, to Brahms and Mahler. But if memory serves me right, she did mention that her great-grandfather did migrate from Germany to Mexico sometime during the late 19th century, hence how she came by the German/Mexican mixture.

Well, you can't say that this is a state secret, right? I would hope that this kind of word-of-mouth, from whatever segment of the music industry that Linda touched, including country (even if she herself didn't consider herself "country" in the strictest Nashville sense of the term), gets so big that a wide release would be in order.

Read the comments. All positive, with several personal stories of encounters with her.

Quote by Richard W. re. Saving Country Music article on The Sound Of My Voice:
Yes, it's very heartening. And as an aside, this same website posted her Rolling Stone interview back in February in which Linda sharply criticized what passes for country music these days as "Midwest mall crawler music"...and no one disputed her in the least.
Another person in another message forum that I am a member of has opined that it is the country music industry that has been the slowest in recognizing Linda's impact. It may be in part because of that sharp opinion she offered, and because she didn't consider herself part of the genre in the strictest sense, the Trio projects aside.
Still, she has followers in the country genre who are trying to change that by following her mantra of mixing traditional and progressive values; and it may not be all that long before she gets her due from that industry. Hopefully it is while she is still alive that this happens.

Well, she loved traditional country music, she recorded a lot of it, she had hits with it, and her singing and country-rock pioneering influenced not only many later performers of it, but the genre itself.

www.forbes.com/sites/davidalm/2019/08/30/review-linda-ronstadt-the-sound-of-my-voice/. Another thumbs up review. He does point out that post boomers "might" have associated Linda with "housewife's music" and the film will be a revelation. Hmmm, as a late 70s teenager she was always cool - guess I didn't realize the next generation had a different viewpoint. Glad to see her Finally put in the pantheon of Divine Musical Spirits.

It's funny how much a decade makes a difference in our fast paced world. In the 1960's when I became a Ronstadt fan (big time) I not only thought she was hip but I thought she was the smartest woman alive based on interviews and articles. So that image of her at least for me stayed in my consciousness. A little over a decade later she was doing what she called elevator music and was determined to bring it back to its rightful glory. By then teens were into 80's pop music and were not so aware of Linda unless they had older siblings or aunts and uncles that were fans, then maybe.... I am glad for this movie for Linda's sake. She wrote Simple Dreams so she could tell her story as she lived it and not be subject to someone else's misconceptions. It appears this movie stays true to the book and is about as autobiographical as one can get. It ties things up nicely. Future movies might be a bit different and would probably vex her. Most celebrities let alone most people will never be this fortunate in life. Linda has set a good example of a life well lived and is an inspiration for generations to come.

If this movie keeps getting reviews like this one Linda will find herself with lots of new fans and probably on the charts again. I wonder if they included any particular song in the movie that would fit that possibility? If not they should have considered that possibility.

I think things should go full circle and bring back Different Drum. Possibly enhance it somehow. Hip hop version? One could get quite creative.

After Live in Hollywood and the movie came out, her followers on Spotify went from 1.3 to 1.7 million. Her greatest hits album is on the iTunes charts fairly often too.
