Linda Ronstadt, ailing with Parkinson's, celebrated in new documentary 5/7/2019 1 Comments
Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival Picture Photo courtesy Tribeca Film Festival It's been 50 years since Linda Ronstadt recorded the first major hit of her career, "Different Drum," with the Stone Poneys. She would go on to one of the most successful solo careers in music history, charting numbers from "Desperado," to "Blue Bayou," "You're No Good," "Hurt So Bad," "Long Long Time," "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville) and many more.
Ronstadt, 72, has been unable to sing for several years as a result of Parkinson's disease. But her accomplishments are celebrated in the new documentary Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice, which just premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman directed the film and James Keach, producer of the 2005 biopic Walk the Line about Johnny Cash, produced the documentary. I spoke with Keach on the red carpet at the world premiere.

Let's get some of those top reviews Variety, Billboard, Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, Pitchfork(despite that odd "underappreciated" headline) on the homepage. YOU can contact CNN, Telling Pictures and Keach's Production Company as to further distribution.
More news on the film--it is part of the American Film Institute's Documentary Film Festival, to be held in June in both Washington and in nearby Silver Springs, Maryland:

WHICH FILMS IMPRESSED AT THIS YEAR'S TRIBECA? Tribeca 2019
The 2019 edition of the Tribeca Film Festival concluded this weekend with the eagerly awaited debut of Danny Boyle's upcoming Beatles musical Yesterday and the announcement of the festival's audience awards. On Thursday, the Tribeca jury also announced its awards, giving its highest honor to Burning Cane, the feature debut from a teenage filmmaker.
Below, find out what critics think of those films and all of the other major film and TV titles debuting at this year's Tribeca. Note that Tribeca films which previously debuted at other festivals or that have already opened in North American theaters (or aired on TV) are not included here. www.metacritic.com/feature/tribeca-film-festival-2019-reviews-best-worst
ADDITIONAL FESTIVAL DEBUTS OF NOTE
Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice Documentary/Music | USA | Directed by Jeffrey Friedman and Rob Epstein movie still
Just one of many music documentaries debuting at this year's Tribeca, The Sound of My Voice chronicles the entire career of Linda Ronstadt, from her early days with folk trio the Stone Poneys in the mid-'60s up through her retirement eight years ago—passing through a variety of genres (and activist work for multiple causes) along the way. There are some talking heads, but much of the story is told via Ronstadt's own narration, though most of it comes from older interviews. Variety's Owen Gleiberman deems the result a "no-frills" documentary that is nevertheless "laced with colorful stories" and winds up a "more than satisfying" account of Ronstadt as an artist. Similarly, The Wrap's Steve Pond calls it "a fitting tribute to a woman worthy of one," while Billboard's Allison Hussey thinks the film "makes a succinct, powerful case for Ronstadt’s status as a twentieth-century music icon." But IndieWire's Kate Erbland dismisses the film as an "uninspired," "maddeningly shallow," and "truncated and glossed-over" look at a "remarkable life."
Tribeca 2019: 12 Must-See Films at This Year’s Festival, From Danny Boyle to a Wild ‘Showgirls’ Doc From returning favorites to a slew of fresh voices, this year's festival has plenty of exciting films on offer. I wonder if CNN will air The Sound of My Voice this summer or fall. I just saw a promo on CNN.. beginning in July to stay tuned for CNN Movies.. I know they will be airing a documentary Apollo 11 end of June...

This is just my personal opinion, but they really should release the film either theatrically or on DVD before anything else, and let the fans get it into their collection (and their collective imagination too). We've wanted this for so long.
As for APOLLO 11, that film is now out on DVD...and, as far as I'm concerned, is an absolute must-have.
"I think honesty is of the first, utmost importance in art... any art. After that comes technique and... after that comes talent. Honesty is first. All the rest of the things are important, too, but they're secondary. Without honesty, I don't care how much technique you have, you have nothing."--Linda Ronstadt
This could very well turn out to be a big deal. At the Provincetown Film Festival, THE SOUND OF MY VOICE won the HBO Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature:

That's exciting. And Linda thought no one would want to see a film about her life lol! How long have we here been waiting for this? and talked about it over and over? twenty years at least.........
Hooray! In addition to the upcoming screening sponsored by the Washington Post this Thursday. The film is going to be in the theaters this Fall.
If this is true, and the film is actually going into theaters, then I hope it gets as wide a release as possible, because I am pretty sure we are all champing at the bit to see it.

I literally have not been to see a movie in a theater in a long time (like 19 yrs) but this one I will be sure to see. I have been to a number of theaters in those 19 years but for concerts and other live performances. We have watched a lot of rental movies over the years or ones we own but it's been almost why break my record now kind of thing. I look forward to it and wish the best to all that were involved in bringing this important doc to see the light of day!!!! eddiejinnj

I guess I am one of those "old-fashioned" types who believes that a big screen in a theater is really the only way to see a film. I went to see five very notable films in the theater in 2018 (THE POST; READY PLAYER ONE; JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM; FAHRENHEIT 11/9); but thus far in 2019, the only one I've seen (twice, first on my own, then a second time with my mother) was APOLLO 11.
In any case, now that it's a done deal and this film is going to get shown, hopefully in a wide release, I am just anxious as hell, as I'm sure everybody else is, to go see it.

Well, in other eras of my life I have gone to movies at theaters a lot. I guess I have to try one of those "nice" seat theaters. During my current era with my partner of 18 yrs, we have historically (not as much now) had friends over a lot and one was a movie rental freak like I said so he would bring over the movie and we provided the place. eddiejinnj
