Is that the same concert from 1980 that was on HBO? Hitsdailydouble.com didn't have it in the upcoming releases section.

How could they leave out Heat Wave? It was a big hit and one of my favorites.

Her live version of Party Girl was so great - why leave it off? Still official live stuff is something. Think I have this show poorly recorded on VHS. So I'm ordering it on Vinyl.

Recorded on April 24, 1980 at Television Center Studios in Hollywood, and produced by John Boylan, the concert captures Ronstadt at the peak of her reign as America’s most popular female rock singer. For LIVE IN HOLLYWOOD, Ronstadt selected 12 of her favorite performances from the original concert. - In concert, she was joined by an outstanding band that included guitarists Kenny Edwards and Danny Kortchmar, drummer Russ Kunkel, bassist Bob Glaub, keyboardist Billy Payne (of Little Feat fame), pedal steel guitarist Dan Dugmore, and backing vocalist Wendy Waldman. Rounding out the band was Peter Asher – Ronstadt’s producer and the concert’s executive producer – who played percussion and sang background. - On stage, Ronstadt held the packed audience spellbound with powerful renditions of her biggest hits – “Blue Bayou,” “Poor Poor Pitiful Me” and “It’s So Easy” – plus an incredible, previously unreleased six-minute jam of her #1 smash, “You’re No Good.” The concert also showcased a trio of Top Ten hits from Ronstadt’s then-current album – Mad Love – with performances of “I Can’t Let Go,” “How Do I Make You” and “Hurt So Bad.” After its release in February 1980, Mad Love would become Ronstadt’s seventh consecutive platinum-selling album. Track Listings Disc: 1 1. I Can't Let Go (Live at Television Center Studios, Hollywood, CA 4/24/1980) 2. It's So Easy (Live at Television Center Studios, Hollywood, CA 4/24/1980) 3. Quote by germancanadian:
In one of the most overt examples of Linda's self-deprecation, "Heat Wave" is one of those songs she has never been happy about having recorded, though she was doing it live in concert at least as far back as 1971 when the future Eagles were backing her up. It may have been David Geffen who though she should record the song because it would become a big hit for her (which it did indeed become [#5 in November 1975]).
And this is strictly my opinion and my thesis, but I think some of her feelings towards her version of "Heat Wave" may have been influenced to an unhealthy degree by certain white male critics of certain New York-based rock music publications (whom I will not name, because why name morons?) who seem to have something against a White woman (though with a Mexican background) doing anything from the historically African-American Motown label. And to hear how many times they make such criticisms, you'd think that they actually believe Motown covers were all she ever did (even though "Heat Wave" is one of a mere three Motown covers in her repertoire) I have said many times here on the forum that such criticisms are not only illegitimate (especially since nobody at Motown ever minded Linda doing their songs), but that they amount to reverse racism.
As to how she feels about "Heat Wave" as she recorded it in 1975, it is what it is, and we have to accept that. Do I wish it had been included here? Yes, absolutely. That said, however, the song list here is a really good overview of how she so influenced her fellow female peers in her career (IMHO).

So this is the first "LIVE" album from Linda (non-bootleg)?

I asked John Boylan about it.... I told him to me the cover looked janky so I suspected it was another bootleg. To me, the cover looks like a picture of Linda not from that particular concert, so that seemed janky to me.
Yes, this would be the first album of all-live material. I am already planning on adding the three bonus songs from last year's Simple Dreams back in sequence.
There are already bad reviews up on Amazon complaining about the sound quality. Of course those reviews are for the bootleg versions since no one has heard this release yet. Amazon needs to remove those reviews or make sure they are connected to the bootleg version, which they should not have been selling in the first place.

I dispute the nominated date of this concert - Recorded on April 24, 1980 at Television Center Studios in Hollywood. This is what appears on the bootleg versions of this concert and cannot be substantiated. Firstly Linda was in the middle of a Mad Love Tour with dates that included: 20 April 1980 Saint Paul Civic Centre, Saint Paul, Minnesota 21 April 1980 Five Seasons Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 23 April 1980 Civic Auditorium, Omaha, Nebraska 24 April 1980 Kemper Arena, Kansas City, Missouri 26 April 1980 Lloyd Noble Centre, Norman, Oklahoma 27 April 1980 Tarrant County Convention Center Arena, Fort Worth, Texas 28 April 1980 The Summit, Houston Texas 29 April 1980 Riverside Centroplex, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 30 April 1980 Frank Erwin Special Events Center, University of Texas, Austin, Texas On the nominated date (24 April 1980) Linda performed a concert in Kemper Arena, Kansas City, Missouri (Photos exist of this concert). Therefore it is highly unlikely that Linda and her band would fly to Hollywood to perform a full concert in a TV studio then fly back to resume the concert tour. Secondly, Linda performed at the Forum, Inglewood, California from 4-8 May 1980. It is believed that the HBO Standing Room Only TV Special was taped in this venue on 5 May 1980 The HBO Standing Room Only TV Special was broadcast on 24 August 1980. Every now and then an ebay seller has 3 photos for sale that were taken at the taping of the special, that they claim was on 5 May 1980

I can't understand why they wouldn't be using whole concert Maybe Linda just wanted a well rounded show with songs from her whole career up to that point vs people knowing it the Mad Love album tour roster and HBO Special Still not sure why eddiejinnj
PS My paternal grandfather used to always say "jooky" and used it kind of like the context of "janky"

I asked John Boylan why the complete concert was not being released. His response: There were time constraints, since a CD doesn’t have enough space for the whole concert and neither does vinyl. A 2 CD set was not cost effective.
The rest might show up later as bonus tracks.

If some do show up as bonus tracks later, which ones (in favorite order) should be included? Also could it be that the ones chosen might have had better sound quality as live performances get intermittent glitches?

Note - 3 songs were previously released as bonus songs on the Simple Dreams 40th Anniversary Edition - It's So Easy
- Blue Bayou
- Poor Poor Pitiful Me
That means on 9 new songs on this release

. . .That means on 9 new songs on this release Well I definitely didn't look at the song list. I was thinking 12 previously unreleased tunes. I think the entire set of songs shown on HBO would fit on one CD, but not on one LP. Vinyl is such a pain! *** No, on second thought, the concert was longer than I remembered. It would take some editing to make it fit on one CD. Still, I am glad that the new year will start off with a new Ronstadt release. I may even buy the vinyl also. But here is the type of special edition that I would really like to see below. Of course it may be 20 years or so until Linda's unreleased Troubadour tracks and studio outtakes see the light.

Post by ausfan2 on Dec 9, 2018 4:09:38 GMT -5
Which reminds me of the fact that the Troubadour sessions recorded for the 1972 Linda Ronstadt (self titled) album have not been released. Only:
3 tracks on the Linda Ronstadt album, and 3 tracks on the 2006 CD The Best Of Linda Ronstadt - The Capitol Years
Surely the record companies could get their act together and give the fans what they want, now, while Linda alive and not 20 years later when only true dedicated fans will be their market.
Tony highlighted the 1969 Rick Nelson at the Troubadour concert. Yesterday I discovered a John Denver concert release from 1 September 1971 at the same venue. Surely there must be an archive of Linda Ronstadt live material in record company vaults - for example the 29 September 1977 Universal Amphitheatre concert that was recorded and issued as a bootleg double LP
If they exist would somebody take the initiative and release them now, (in full - not in an edited format), whilst there is a market for Linda Ronstadt material.

There may be a lot of reasons why that isn't done. Costs being primarily the main reason. Will the record company make $? In the US the bottom line seems to be the main consideration nowadays. You would think though that there would be an online format they could be released without all the overhead even if it is song by song.

A 2 CD set was not cost effective. The rest might show up later as bonus tracks. The HBO concert was on youtube a few months ago, which it isn't now for some mysterious reason, and my memory was the entire program (not the concert) was only around 80 minutes or so. They could cut the extraneous material (opening and closing credits) as they're not needed on a CD, and start with the first song. Still, everyone has wished for a live album and now we've gotten our wish. Maybe not in the way we like, but it's a start.
