Linda also lived near Nicole Brown Simpson and if I remember correctly occasionally met up when walking their dogs.

Speaking of houses: A deserted stone house in Topanga Canyon, high in the hills above Malibu, California, was the setting for the photographs of two pioneering albums from the late 1960's: • The Byrds - The Notorious Byrd Brothers (1968);
• Linda Ronstadt - Hand Sown... Home Grown (Back Cover)(1969).

Linda's Tucson House Up For Sale: Anyone Got $1.6 Million? Nov 19, 2014 at 7:37pm . Post by philly on Nov 19, 2014 at 7:37pm
tucson.com/news/local/ronstadt-house-comes-down-in-price/article_3dee072a-7047-11e4-89a0-a3fd52387845.html
The price for music star Linda Ronstadt's former home in Colonia Solana has been lowered from $1.6 million to $1,495,000.
"People think the house is absolutely beautiful," said Russell Long of Long Realty on Wednesday. He is the listing agent along with his wife, Christine Long.
"We just need to find the right party who wants to live in and care for a historic home on a historic estate size lot," said Long of the property that was put on the market about six months ago. The sale price was brought down about three weeks ago.
The 1929 Mediterranean-style house totals more than 4,200 square feet — with a clay-tile roof, porches, mahogany doors, oak hardwood floors and balconies with views of the Santa Catalina Mountains. It sits on 1.27 acres of lawns, gardens and patios.
The property is in the neighborhood nestled between Reid Park and East Broadway, just east of South Country Club Road.
Ronstadt, a native Tucsonan who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year, bought the house in 1994 and lived there with her two children, and hosted many family gatherings and celebrations. She moved to San Francisco years ago. She has Parkinson's disease and is retired.
About 15 potential buyers have looked at the house. About 60 percent were Tucson residents and 40 percent were from out-of-state, said Long.
The house is not selling, said Long, partially because there is a "lack of high-end buyers for the central part of Tucson. You find high-end buyers go into the Foothills and out northwest," possibly looking for more seclusion.
The house has been advertised around the world in slick, glossy magazines, including "Homes & Land". It was featured on MSN Entertainment, in the Robb Report and also on luxuryportfolio.com
"We figure that now is our time to sell. I believe it will sell between now and June. The snowbirds are here now, and the students are here. It is surprising the number of homes purchased by parents of students who want a place in town when they come visit," said Long.

Linda's home is featured and praised on many house, home and design blogs. It is so beautiful and "honest" a home. The comments are also refreshing in their intelligence and warmth. While I normally prefer modern design - this magnificent and lovingly restored house and gardens are indeed special. Must be very emotional for the family, for the Tucson community and all the folks who understand the history of this desert town/city . . .

The rock house in Topanga Canyon was on the opposite side of the road from Linda's house. On the Byrds cover, the horse with them (Buster) is actually from Topanga Stables where I worked. Bernie Leadon boarded a horse there as well as Michael Clarke at one time.

Val, is that old stone house from the album covers still there? It was abandoned at the time and is so iconic now. Such a beautiful area that has attracted some very unsavory characters. What is it like living there in 2019? Is it still an area that attracts artists and musicians or is that now a bygone era? btw thank you for your insights.

I moved out of the Canyon in 1976 but I still have friends there. In 1971-1973 I lived at Bob “The Bear” Hites house at 701 N. Topanga Cyn Blvd. I worked at the Topanga Corral for awhile, which was the local roadhouse. It was a great time to be there. Sadly, it’s a bygone era of rock royalty and artists. It was certainly a great ride while it was happening.

Is this the house you lived in?The original house was destroyed in a flood in the 80's. This was it after the flood. The property has been abandoned since they tore that down. Attempts to rebuild have never happened. The property sits in shambles. This is also the house that Canned Heat guitar player Alan Wilson died behind.

It looks like 954 Old Topanga Canyon Rd. is next to the Hinman house. Is this the house Linda lived in? Or was it the other side? This would have been around the time Hand Sown Home Grown was released, her performances at the Bitter End and Woodstock took place. Also the Manson murders. I believe this is just before she and JD Souther moved in together at another house. Linda mentioned "we" when living next to Hinman so I assume she didn't live alone when there.

Val, were you involved with Canned Heat? They really took off as a band after Woodstock. It is funny that they lived so close to Linda and both were in NY at the same time...one at the Bitter End and the other at Woodstock.www.popspotsnyc.com/the_byrds/

That appears to be the place but it has changed so much. There was a garage with a blue door that is no longer there. As for my involvement with Canned Heat, my adopted Mom was married to Bob Hite.
So you were a neighborhood kid living amongst the likes of Linda Ronstadt, Bernie Leadon, the Byrds and Charlie Manson and his "family." Was the Topanga Corral a real corral or just a music club venue (and a Canned Heat album)? Is that a place where Manson and his family would sometimes hang out? I know Charlie was a wannabe musician so it would make sense he would be in those venues and places like the Palomino Club where Linda frequented as well. I think you had an interesting childhood with lots of interesting stories to tell. That was quite a neighborhood. Thanks for sharing with those of us who grew up in boring circumstances although that might be a little too much excitement for me. This is the first time we have gotten any insight into what the neighborhood was like when Linda was living there. When you saw Manson I hope he didn't try to lure you into his cult. I was surprised to learn he was only 5'2" which is Linda Ronstadt's height as well yet he wielded such an allure to some. He had an awful childhood that honed some cunning and manipulative skills.rockandrollroadmap.com/

Linda Ronstadt home for sale Diana Walsh, OF THE EXAMINER STAFF Published 4:00 am PDT, Thursday, September 25, 1997 Go to this address to see photo. images.app.goo.gl/dZtbTVA4wTocoHQt9 Karo SPONSORED Chewy Chocolate Chip Chunk Cookies Make the perfect chewy cookies with the help of a secret ingredient and enjoy every bite of sweetness. By Karo 1997-09-25 04:00:00 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- Singer Linda Ronstadt wants to sell you her lavender Pacific Heights mansion, complete with seven bedrooms, au pair suite, office, stained glass windows and dumbwaiter, for $5.85 million. But don't expect to get that chandelier in the master bedroom: She's taking that with her. Ronstadt, who bought the Jackson Street house in 1987, has packed up and moved to Tucson, where she was born and raised. The rock singer, who is as well known for her relationship with former Gov. Jerry Brown as she is for singing "Poor Poor Pitiful Me," is now a single mom raising her two adopted children and apparently wanted to be closer to family. "She's just going back home," her manager, Ira Koslow, said Wednesday. "She loves it (in San Francisco). It's just sometimes you feel like you want to raise your kids where you were raised. It just seems silly to keep two houses." After living in Los Angeles for 30 years, Ronstadt moved to San Francisco in the late 1980s because she said she never felt at home in Southern California. In an interview with The Examiner last year, she said she had picked San Francisco because: "I like the architecture, and I like that people don't occupy 90 percent of their thinking with whether they have the right haircut, or the right outfit, or whether their plastic surgery is up to date. I find that mentality exhausting." But there may have been some sentimental reasons behind the move, too: At the time she was dating George Lucas, whose vast film studios are in Marin County. During the late 1980s and early '90s, she made San Francisco her primary residence, but she bought a second home in Tucson three or four years ago, Koslow said. She then began splitting time between the two cities, with her children spending their early years in San Francisco schools. In moving back to Tucson, she'll be just one of many well-known Ronstadts in town. Her brother, Peter, was once chief of police, cousin James is head of the city's park and recreation department, and James' son, Fred, is running for city council. When her parents were alive they owned a large downtown hardware store. And the main bus stop in town is known as, what else, the Ronstadt Transit Center. The turn-of-the-century Victorian she's leaving behind in San Francisco is located across the street from Alta Plaza Park. The real estate brochure, prepared by Realtor Elizabeth Pfau of Hill & Co., describes the stately home but doesn't mention its famous owner with the beautiful voice, saying only that it was "completely remodeled by present owner in 1988." The four-level house includes seven bedrooms, five full baths, two half-baths, office, powder room, music room, seven fireplaces and "fabulous views." For the kids, there's a playroom and a playhouse in the backyard. The brochure also doesn't mention Ronstadt recorded "Dedicated to the One I Love," a collection of lullabies for music fans, last year in the house in the presence of her two children, Mary Clementine and Carlos. The only thing you won't get for your nearly $6 million is the chandelier in the master bedroom hall. That's excluded from the sale, according to the brochure. <

Did the stables you worked at rent horses by the hour? There is a photo of Linda with Neil Young both on horseback in the hills. I wonder if they frequented the stables? I was blown away by Spirit's Taurus which has been in a controversy with Led Zeppelin for a while. I imagine you must have heard them practice that tune. It is very hypnotic. Who are the men pictured with Bob? Quite a collection of albums. First I heard of Milky Way. I wonder if that was before or after Manson's affiliation with Dennis Wilson? Oh, what was the occasion that you had to look Manson in the eyes? I hope you write a memoir if not for anything else but family history.

It might just be me but Fito looks like he could be Charlies second cousin. Every time you comment you have something new and interesting to say. The cool thing is you lived around these people early in their careers when life was exciting. When you said Charlie hung around the Center that must be where Linda said she had seen the different girls around the area. I wonder if Gary Hinman's murder is what made Linda move? And then to find out the murder was because of the Manson family members would have had me on the next flight because no one knew who all the people in his sphere were. Some wisely left right before the killing spree. Thank goodness you had a job, had to work and had a good head on your shoulders to stay away from him. Val, did you ever get into the music business or were you just content to stay on the sidelines?

Gotta love old houses. I much prefer them to anything new, even the haunted ones. Here is some more info on the area bungalow JD and Linda moved to after she left Topanga.legaciesofla.com/1742-north-gardner-street-neighboring-runyon-canyon/
The Highland-Camrose Bungalow Village is a grouping of Craftsman style bungalows located at the northwest corner of Highland and Camrose Avenues in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. The bungalows were designed by the Taylor Brothers and Lee Campbell as residences. The bungalows were later converted to offices, which are occupied by various organizations affiliated with the nearby Hollywood Bowl, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 1989, the bungalow village was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
The listing included 16 contributing buildings, a contributing structure (stone walls), and a contributing site (landscaping).
Circa 1919: Within the year after Brothers Sam, Jack, Harry and Albert Warner, opened Warner Bros. Studios on nearby Sunset Boulevard, builder Lee Campbell was contracted to break ground at 1742 North Gardner. Campbell is perhaps best known for his work on the Highland Camrose Bungalow Village. Highland Camrose was a scattering of 14 wood-sided homes built between 1916 and 1923 for employees of movie studios in Burbank and Studio City. The village would go on to house numerous future super stars: Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, Marilyn Monroe and Tyrone Power, Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Browne, to name a few, and was added to the National Register of Historical Places in 1989. More modest than Whitley heights, Highland Camrose had been sited on land that was once a portion of the Rancho La Brea, a Mexican Land grant. Highland-Camrose Bungalow Village (2103 N. Highland Avenue) is on the National Register of Historic Places. Jackson Browne, Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Linda Ronstadt, and J. D. Souther developed the California Sound of the 1970s while neighbors in the area around High Tower and the Highland-Camrose Bungalow Village.
The Eagles' Don Henley and Bernie Leadon wrote "Witchy Woman" in a bungalow here shared by Linda Ronstadt and J. D. Souther

Topanga Canyon was a place many musical talents hung out. Linda played on a bill with a band called Southwind in 1968 and I believe 1969. She had also went to the Topanga Corral. There are not many photos of the interior of the Corral but I have one. The band is Bones featuring the Faragher brothers.
