Lately, I’ve taken an interest in locating the places Linda lived after moving to LA in 1964. Maybe others here can fill in some missing pieces.
When Linda first moved to LA, she stayed with Bobby Kimmel in a communal house on Hart Avenue (Linda refers to it as Hart Street in her memoir) in Ocean Park. The house is the backdrop for the group photo on the back of the third Stone Poneys LP. Anyone know the address?
Sometime before 1970, she moved into a bungalow with JD Souther near the corner of Camrose and Highland. Jackson Browne lived in an adjacent bungalow. Half of the bungalows in this little village were razed in 1991 - 1992 time frame to clear space for the present day Highland Camrose Park, but 7 of the original 14 bungalows were spared. Anyone know if the house where Linda and JD lived is one of those still standing?

That would take a lot of research. I am aware of the two you are talking about but don't know the addresses. I know she had a home in Malibu that was featured on Wonderland, a home in Brentwood during her Jim Carrey dating period (which I believe was close to where Nicole Simpson lived and died) also and a home in San Francisco before she sold it and moved back to Tucson (early 90's) and lived in the pink house which she had restored. She also lived on Prince Rd. in Tucson (her childhood home) which I believe was part of her grandfather's original acreage. I have the address and phone number to that home which I believe is gone but am not sure where my old address book is. When times were hard she would return to Tucson and stayed in her parent's guest house on Prince Road. I am thinking that guest house may have been the house that her grandparents lived in until they died but I am not 100% sure of that. She also lived in New York City for a bit but I am not sure if she just stayed in a hotel for the duration. She had some interesting roommates over the years among them Nicolette Larson, Adam Mitchell, Danny Ferrington (I think), etc. I don't think she was ever home a lot once she got popular and led the life of a nomad. That is the extent of my knowledge and all from memory. She did talk about a house she purchased and before she moved in the address was published so I am not sure if she ever moved in or not or if it was one of those I mentioned. She is living in San Francisco now but even if I had the address I would not dare mention it here or anywhere. If Linda wanted uninvited guests I would let her make that decision. I wouldn't even put my own address on the internet after some of the stuff I post in the war room lol. I am already outnumbered living in Arizona. Some of the homes were posted with photos here in the forum and the old forum but now that photobucket became a criminal organization and is holding 3rd party photos hostage none of mine will show (unless I can cough up $400 per year, money which I need for my animal rescue).

I have done some (internet) research on the topic. I will post what I have pieced together here for anyone interested. For me, it makes her story somewhat more accessible to see (on Google) the actual places referenced in her memoir.
Where she lived during the early years in LA is less clear to me, thus the questions in my initial post. I was unaware of the Prince Road house in Tucson. I kind of had the impression the she left home for LA and just stayed in LA, but it makes more sense that she would have gone back home to Tucson during lean times in those early years.
The following chronology is not necessarily 100% accurate, but is what I have been able to piece together. If anyone can fill-in or correct details, please do.
1. Stayed with Bobby Kimmel and Kenny Edwards in a communal house on Hart Avenue (Linda refers to it as Hart Street) in Ocean Park. The house is the backdrop for the group photo on the back of the third Stone Poneys LP. Address of house unknown.
2. Sometime before 1970, she moved into a bungalow with JD Souther near the corner of Camrose and Highland. Jackson Browne lived in an adjacent bungalow. Half of the bungalows in this little village were razed in 1991 or 1992 to clear space for the present day Highland Camrose Park. 7 of the original 14 bungalows were spared. Unknown to me if the house where Linda and JD lived is one of those still standing.
3. Sometime between 1970 and 1973, she moved to an apartment in Beechwood Canyon with JD Souther. I believe the apartment was the upstairs unit of the house at 2595 N Beechwood. Harry Dean Stanton lived above the garage, behind the house, at the time. JD and Linda parted ways during this period, and he moved to another place nearby (maybe the house at 2400 N Gower).
4. Linda moved to her house at #38 Malibu Colony (aka 23674 Malibu Colony Rd) in 1975, after the release and success of HLAW.
5. In 1980, she moved from Malibu Colony to the house at 241 N Rockingham (Brentwood). Danny Ferrington lived here, for how long I don’t know.
6. In 1987 she moved to 2518 Jackson St in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco. In December 1990, Linda adopted Mary Clementine, and she adopted Carlos in 1994. Linda recorded the album “Dedicated to the One I Love” in this house.
7. In late 1994 or 1995, she moved back to Tucson with her kids, to the property at 147 S Avenida De Palmas.
8. In 1997, she sold her house on Jackson Street in SF.
9. In 2005, she left Tucson and moved back to SF. While house hunting, she lived in a duplex not far from her former home on Jackson St.
10. In 2009, Linda bought her current house in SF.
11. In Aug 2016, she sold her Tucson home.

Very good list. You may have mostly nailed it. You should hook up with Philly. He has an interest in this too and seems to be the most knowledgeable about Linda's homes. He might even have links to photos of many of the homes which would be quite interesting to add to the mix. I don't know how he does it but he is one of the best investigators I have seen here lol. He is also a stealth member and may be watching us now
Dianna once mentioned that Linda and Nicole Brown Simpson sometimes walked their dogs together or at least ran into each other while walking their dogs. Might even have been the same breed. Not sure. She also may have been a resident of the Plaza Hotel for an extended period of time when working in NYC. I wonder if any of those homes were haunted? Or who some of the past residents might have been? Or who is living there now?1. She lived at the Majestic at on 115 CPW in NYC at some point, I think in the mid-late 1970s. While she was performing in Pirates, she lived at Hayden House at 11 W. 81 Street in the former apt. of Liv Ullman.

I keep thinking there was a newspaper story or magazine article online that had photos of Linda's current house and that they had posted her address. Now, I can't find that article. I was kind of shocked when I saw the photos of Linda's current home on the amount of money she paid for it. I know housing is driven by supply and demand, but it's also driven by greed as well. Based on the photos I saw, I thought Linda paid too much, even though there was a smaller house in back of the main house.
Linda's Tuscon home sold in August 2016? I was hoping I'd win the lottery and could then buy it as it was and is a gorgeous home. Linda was wanting less for the home than what she paid for her current home in San Francisco. And her Tuscon home looked more palatial. The last thing I heard on the home was that the price had been reduced because the realty company wasn't finding any takers, which was mind blowing as I thought the price Linda was asking for originally was cheap. Any idea what the house sold for? And I'm kind of wondering if Linda is done with her house moving or if she will move from her current home? She has moved around a lot in her life and despite her illness, it wouldn't surprise me if she moves again/

Yes, her Tuscon house sold last year for 1 million. The realtor kind of ad was posted on this forum. I think original asking price and don't quote me was 1.5 or 1.8. eddiejinnj

Based on this article we can add Santa Monica to the list unless it already is actually the main city on one that was listed.

This article fits perfectly on Linda's state of mind and why she has moved to fit that mindset so often. It is a treasure chest of information and reveals how and why Linda is alive today to struggle with the vagaries of old age. Thanks Dianna! Some great pieces of the puzzle solved and a wonderful article which seems like an outline for Simple Dreams, her memoir that was to come later.

That may have been an article or link Philly brought to us which if I remember correctly was the realtor or mls listing for the house before she bought it. Linda was fortunate to be able to afford to move to suit her needs at the time whereas many are stuck in their situations and altering their structure is the best they can do. I have only had two houses and was incredibly shocked at all the junk I have accumulated over decades and I still am not motivated to go through the boxes in storage. When I die they will probably all get tossed onto the ash heap by some estate clearance company without even looking inside unless the ravages of global warming and climate change get them first. Just material objects anyway.

Speaking of houses: A deserted stone house in Topanga Canyon, high in the hills above Malibu, California, was the setting for the photographs of two pioneering albums from the late 1960's: • The Byrds - The Notorious Byrd Brothers (1968);
• Linda Ronstadt - Hand Sown... Home Grown (Back Cover)(1969).

Linda's Tucson House Up For Sale: Anyone Got $1.6 Million? Nov 19, 2014 at 7:37pm . Post by philly on Nov 19, 2014 at 7:37pm
tucson.com/news/local/ronstadt-house-comes-down-in-price/article_3dee072a-7047-11e4-89a0-a3fd52387845.html
The price for music star Linda Ronstadt's former home in Colonia Solana has been lowered from $1.6 million to $1,495,000.
"People think the house is absolutely beautiful," said Russell Long of Long Realty on Wednesday. He is the listing agent along with his wife, Christine Long.
"We just need to find the right party who wants to live in and care for a historic home on a historic estate size lot," said Long of the property that was put on the market about six months ago. The sale price was brought down about three weeks ago.
The 1929 Mediterranean-style house totals more than 4,200 square feet — with a clay-tile roof, porches, mahogany doors, oak hardwood floors and balconies with views of the Santa Catalina Mountains. It sits on 1.27 acres of lawns, gardens and patios.
The property is in the neighborhood nestled between Reid Park and East Broadway, just east of South Country Club Road.
Ronstadt, a native Tucsonan who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year, bought the house in 1994 and lived there with her two children, and hosted many family gatherings and celebrations. She moved to San Francisco years ago. She has Parkinson's disease and is retired.
About 15 potential buyers have looked at the house. About 60 percent were Tucson residents and 40 percent were from out-of-state, said Long.
The house is not selling, said Long, partially because there is a "lack of high-end buyers for the central part of Tucson. You find high-end buyers go into the Foothills and out northwest," possibly looking for more seclusion.
The house has been advertised around the world in slick, glossy magazines, including "Homes & Land". It was featured on MSN Entertainment, in the Robb Report and also on luxuryportfolio.com
"We figure that now is our time to sell. I believe it will sell between now and June. The snowbirds are here now, and the students are here. It is surprising the number of homes purchased by parents of students who want a place in town when they come visit," said Long.

Linda's home is featured and praised on many house, home and design blogs. It is so beautiful and "honest" a home. The comments are also refreshing in their intelligence and warmth. While I normally prefer modern design - this magnificent and lovingly restored house and gardens are indeed special. Must be very emotional for the family, for the Tucson community and all the folks who understand the history of this desert town/city . . .

The Rise of the Malibu Movie ColonyWelcome to Malibu Colony, a one-mile stretch of beachfront property that has been witness to the shenanigans of the stars for over 80 years. And oh the tales these homes could tell...
Michele Willens
It is one of the most famous miles in the world. Jane Fonda threw an infamous all-night party here. (The Byrds closed the festivities down at dawn on her deck.) It is where Cat Stevens had his Muslim moment, and where Robert Redford saw a bundled up Mary Tyler Moore strolling the beach and decided right then to cast her in Ordinary People. Gloria Swanson allegedly entertained Joseph Kennedy at her secret hideaway, while former best friends and next-door neighbors Larry Hagman and Burgess Meredith fought a vicious and costly legal battle over a few feet of obstructed ocean view.
This star-studded locale is Malibu Colony, a private stretch of around 100 homes sitting side by side on the Pacific Ocean. For over 80 years, celebrities and moguls have flocked to this beachfront, where they have held memorable parties, written Oscar-winning scripts, and hired private barges every Fourth of July. While the enclave is gated and guarded, part of the beach itself (below the high tide line) is theoretically accessible to the public. From a distance, they can gaze at the eclectic style of homes, and their equally mixed residents who may be long-timers, temporary renters (Pink has been a constant presence), or those who make their home (or one of their several homes) here, including the likes of Tom Hanks, Rob Reiner, and Jim Carrey.
By the mid-1930s, Rindge allowed the stars to actually purchase their homes, which, as the decades moved on, grew more and more expansive (though most houses were, and remain, on 30-foot lots). The stars kept coming: Bing Crosby, Gary Cooper, Merle Oberon. Eventually, the musical world invaded, with former singer turned producer Peter Asher hosting everyone from Joni to James for all-day sing-alongs. Neil Diamond owned for a long time, Ronnie Wood rented, as did Linda Ronstadt, who jogged the beach with her boyfriend, Gov. Jerry Brown. Even rapping rivals Shug Knight and Tupac Shakur rented one year…at the same time.

For the benefit of ronstadtfanaz (and anyone else ) here's Linda appearing in the 1977 Dutch made documentary 'Wonderland', edited into one clip. The song clips are well known but are worth including here for completeness. Note the whole programme was recorded on film and not videotape. The clip is 12 minutes so is fairly large, and what's more they spelt her name right too. ;D 1977 Linda In Wonderland (wmv, 480x360, 68MB)Alan
The Stars Love Malibu!By Brad Darrach

people.com/archive/cover-story-the-stars-love-malibu-vol-20-no-5/
excerpt:
Immediately behind the beach, often for several miles at a stretch, stands a solid wall of houses, most of them architecturally boring, all of them grotesquely expensive and utterly vulnerable to wind and wave. Immediately behind these houses runs the Pacific Coast Highway, a roaring speedway that all week long is crowded with commuters and house-shuddering trucks, and on weekends carries bumper-to-bumper traffic to and from the public beaches. And on the inland side of the coast highway, facing the villas of the wealthy, rises a succession of fast-food stands, dry cleaners, bakeries, beauty parlors: one Malibu real estate agent calls it “a maritime slum.”
In such a setting, celebrities are exposed to every criminal who comes down the pike. Tape decks are stolen from their cars, and sometimes the cars themselves are ripped off. Not long ago Michael Landon’s $135,000 Ferrari was snatched from in front of his house. And homes are regularly broken into. Larry Hagman’s house, which stands less than 50 feet from a guardhouse, has been robbed twice in recent years. Two years ago someone broke into Linda Ronstadt’s villa, slashed her pillows and left a note stabbed to her butcher’s block. It read: “I shall return.”
Worse things have happened. The daughter of a leading Malibu family was recently raped in her garage. In 1981-82, according to Los Angeles police, 32 women were raped and six people were murdered in Malibu. What’s more, bodies of people murdered in other parts of L.A. are not infrequently dumped in the sea off Malibu and in the mountains behind it.
Many of the murders, police believe, are drug-related. Every year tons of marijuana and many kilos of cocaine land in hidden coves on this suitably intricate riviera. Some cocaine passes through the nostrils of Malibu residents, but the drug scene in Malibu is less than frantic. People obsessed with the drug are known to most celebrities there as cocaine bores. It was October, and Mick,__ __Ronnie, and I were on our way to the fourth-birthday party of Diana Ross’s daughter, Tracee. (Which is why Ronnie has those red balloons.) Ronnie and Krissie Wood had rented a house in Malibu Colony, and I also had a room there. It was a continuous party of all-night jamming sessions, and on any one night there might be artists like the Band, Linda Ronstadt, Steve Tyler, or Bob Dylan. Ronnie’s manager at the time was Bob Ellis Silberstein, who was married to Diana Ross. We were always going up and down that beach to visit friends.

This address on Gower St. keeps popping up on my Zillow report and then I realized it was the address that Linda and Harry Dean Stanton shared. Harry lived in the apartment above the garage and he died last year. I found a photo of him at his home and compared it to the Zillow photos and am sure now that my guess was correct. Linda and JD shared an apartment in the front of the property. Harry was a beloved actor and person. He was someone I would have liked to have known. Harry played the part of the old man in the Trio song Those Memories.

It looks as if all of his stuff is still in the house unless they are only showing old photos. Just thought this would be an interesting curiousity. Many other photos of the property at the Zillow site too if anyone is interested.

Looks like the kind of place I would like if I didn't have so many rescue animals to watch after.

The Majestic (or Majestic Apartments) is a twin-towered housing cooperative skyscraper located at 115 Central Park West between 71st Street and 72nd Street in Manhattan, New York City. The steel framed building was constructed in 1930–1931 and designed in the Art Deco style by architect and real estate developer Irwin S. Chanin with the assistance of his French associate, Jacques Delamarre. The futuristic sculptures on the building's facade are by Rene Chambellan. it's lit.
Background
The building was originally planned to be a 45-story hotel, but the plans were changed midway through construction due to the Great Depression and the passing of the Multiple Dwelling Act, which restricted a building's height immediately above the street, but allowed tall towers if the property was sufficiently large. The Majestic replaced the Hotel Majestic, designed by Alfred Zucker in 1894 at the same site, which had been home to Gustav Mahler and Edna Ferber, among others.
The Majestic has 238 apartments in 29 stories, and is one of four buildings on Central Park West which feature two towers, the others being: The San Remo, The Century—also designed and built by Chanin—and The Eldorado.
Landmark status
In 1988, The Majestic was designated a New York City Landmark by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission.
Residents
Among the notable past and present residents of the Majestic are actors Milton Berle and Zero Mostel, and newspaper columnist Walter Winchell. Fashion designer Marc Jacobs lived there as a teenager with his grandmother in the 1980s, and television personality Conan O'Brien sold his co-op in 2010.
Gangsters
The Majestic was home to some of the former heads of the Luciano crime family (later called the Genovese crime family) including Lucky Luciano, Frank Costello, and Meyer Lansky. In 1957, Vincent "The Chin" Gigante shot Frank Costello in the lobby of the Majestic in a failed assassination attempt. Louis "Lepke" Buchalter, a founding member of the New York syndicate, along with Meyer Lansky and Lucky Luciano, and head of its security arm, Murder, Inc., lived in apartment 17J in 1933.HAYDEN HOUSEThe Hayden House Description
11 West 81 Street “ The Hayden House” was built in 1908 and converted to a coop in 1976. This Beaux Arts beauty has 12-floors and approximately only 36 units, making it a charming home for its residents. The façade is highly decorative and showcases detailed masonry work with over-sized windows with decorative window balconies. There are wonderful architectural details found in the apartments such as soaring ceiling heights (approximately 11 ft high), elaborate decorative moldings and herringbone floors. It enjoys a picture-perfect location directly across from the Museum of Natural History and the Rose Center( Hayden Planetarium) and is just steps to Central Park, all public transportation and fashionable shops and cafes. It also offers a front row seat to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. The building has a part-time doorman.

The creepy looking photo of Linda Ronstadt's home, if I am not mistaken, that picture was taken after the Malibu storms/floods that made her decision to sell her house in Malibu Colony. If you look closely at the photo you will see mold growing on the metal sliders that go over garage door and the gate. I am sure her place was not the only creepy looking house in the colony after the floods of 1978. Then again there have been so many floods in the Colony who knows when this photo was really taken. I just remember someone showing me this photo back in the early 1980's and they said it was after the 78 flood. Attachments:

If I am not mistaken it was that same Malibu house where Linda came home to find a slashed pillow with a threatening note attached. That really freaked out Linda's mom. That may have had more to do with her selling that house than anything else. Linda has made a lot of wise choices in her life and that was one of them. She is quite intuitive.

That would take a lot of research. I am aware of the two you are talking about but don't know the addresses. I know she had a home in Malibu that was featured on Wonderland, a home in Brentwood during her Jim Carrey dating period across the street from where Nicole Simpson lived and died) also and a home in San Francisco before she sold it and moved back to Tucson (early 90's) and lived in the pink house which she had restored. She also lived in New York City at 81st and Central Park West, during Pirates of Penzance and La Boheme. for a bit but I am not sure if she just stayed in a hotel for the duration. She had some interesting roommates over the years among them Nicolette Larson, Adam Mitchell, Danny Ferrington, Genny Schorr. (I think), etc.

It insinuated in an article above, "The Rise of the Malibu Movie Colony" that said "Ron Wood rented as did Linda Ronstadt"? I guess I assumed (oh no) that she owned it. Could just be misinformation in article am not sure nor am making accusations as such. Could I be reading the sentence wrong? I thought since she lived there for what 4-5 years that she owned it but people rent that long certainly. Anybody know? eddiejinfl

The December 1976 Rolling Stone cover story said "Her split-level home, which she purchased for almost $200,000..." but the TIME cover story said "Linda settled, in a modest $325 000 white clapboard house..." She also mentioned how much it cost to Ethan Russell: ethanrussell.com/americanstory/?p=2606

I know it but it would be a violation of Linda’s privacy to post it here. There’s a reason her home is not listed publicly under her name.
