VERTIGO
Vertigo is a sensation of feeling off balance. If you have these dizzy spells, you might feel like you are spinning or that the world around you is spinning.
Causes of Vertigo
Vertigo is often caused by an inner ear problem. Some of the most common causes include:
BPPV.
These initials stand for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. BPPV occurs when tiny calcium particles (canaliths) clump up in canals of the inner ear. The inner ear sends signals to the brain about head and body movements relative to gravity. It helps you keep your balance.
BPPV can occur for no known reason and may be associated with age.
Meniere's disease.
This is an inner ear disorder thought to be caused by a buildup of fluid and changing pressure in the ear. It can cause episodes of vertigo along with ringing in the ears (tinnitus) and hearing loss.
Vestibular neuritis or labyrinthitis.
This is an inner ear problem usually related to infection (usually viral). The infection causes inflammation in the inner ear around nerves that are important for helping the body sense balance
Less often vertigo may be associated with:
•Head or neck injury • Brain problems such as stroke or tumor •Certain medications that cause ear damage • Migraine headaches
Symptoms of Vertigo
Vertigo is often triggered by a change in the position of your head.
People with vertigo typically describe it as feeling like they are: •Spinning •Tilting •Swaying •Unbalanced •Pulled to one direction
Other symptoms that may accompany vertigo include: •Feeling nauseated •Vomiting •Abnormal or jerking eye movements (nystagmus) • Headache • Sweating •Ringing in the ears or hearing loss
Symptoms can last a few minutes to a few hours or more and may come and go.
Treatment for Vertigo
Treatment for vertigo depends on what's causing it. In many cases, vertigo goes away without any treatment. This is because your brain is able to adapt, at least in part, to the inner ear changes, relying on other mechanisms to maintain balance.
For some, treatment is needed and may include:
Vestibular rehabilitation.
This is a type of physical therapy aimed at helping strengthen the vestibular system. The function of the vestibular system is to send signals to the brain about head and body movements relative to gravity.
Vestibular rehab may be recommended if you have recurrent bouts of vertigo. It helps train your other senses to compensate for vertigo.
Canalith repositioning maneuvers.
Guidelines from the American Academy of Neurology recommend a series of specific head and body movements for BPPV. The movements are done to move the calcium deposits out of the canal into an inner ear chamber so they can be absorbed by the body. You will likely have vertigo symptoms during the procedure as the canaliths move.
A doctor or physical therapist can guide you through the movements. The movements are safe and often effective.
Medicine.
In some cases, medication may be given to relieve symptoms such as nausea or motion sickness associated with vertigo.
If vertigo is caused by an infection or inflammation, antibiotics or steroids may reduce swelling and cure infection.
For Meniere's disease, diuretics (water pills) may be prescribed to reduce pressure from fluid buildup.
Surgery.
In a few cases, surgery may be needed for vertigo.
If vertigo is caused by a more serious underlying problem, such as a tumor or injury to the brain or neck, treatment for those problems may help to alleviate the vertigo.

This is scary. Don't leave your house. A woman I worked with a couple of years ago lost her 21 year old daughter (newly married) to the flu H1N1 version.
The flu can be spread just by breathing, new study finds Yahoo Lifestyle Korin Miller,Yahoo Lifestyle 7 hours ago
Flu season is no joke, and this year people are especially nervous about the virus. Now, there’s even more reason to be wary of the flu: It might spread more easily than people realize.
In fact, the flu may be spread just by breathing. That’s the major takeaway from a new University of Maryland study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. In the study, researchers captured the flu virus in the exhaled breath of 142 people with confirmed cases of the flu while they breathed naturally, spoke, coughed, and sneezed. Then the researchers assessed the breath for infectiousness. The study participants also provided 218 nose and throat swabs and 218 30-minute samples of their breath on the first, second, and third days after they began experiencing symptoms.
The researchers found that a significant number of flu patients regularly exhaled the virus via aerosol particles that were small enough to cause a risk of airborne transmission. About 48 percent of the 23 fine aerosol samples the researchers collected when people breathed but didn’t cough had detectable levels of the flu, and most of those were infectious (i.e., they could make other people sick).
While most people tend to think that they can catch the flu only by being exposed to droplets from an infected person’s cough or sneeze, or by touching surfaces that have been contaminated with those droplets, the researchers found that that just isn’t the case.
Before you panic, know this: While the information is surprising to most people, it’s not to the medical community. “We knew that the flu had the capacity to do this, but this study is just showing it’s a real phenomenon,” Amesh A. Adalja, MD, a board-certified infectious disease physician and senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, tells Yahoo Lifestyle.
The flu is spread most efficiently from person to person when people are within 3 to 6 feet of each other, William Schaffner, MD, an infectious disease specialist and professor at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “When someone with the flu breathes out, it hovers in the air, and if someone who is within range breathes it in, they are infected,” he explains.
That said, you’re still at the biggest risk of contracting the flu from coughs and sneezes or by touching infected surfaces than you are breathing it in, Sherif Beniameen Mossad, MD, an infectious disease expert at the Cleveland Clinic and professor of medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University, tells Yahoo Lifestyle.
To protect yourself during flu season, it’s not too late get a flu shot. While it’s only about 30 percent effective, “any protection is better than no protection,” Mossad says. It’s also a good idea to avoid people who are coughing and sneezing whenever possible, he adds.
Good hand hygiene is also crucial, Schaffner says, and it’s especially important to suds up well after you visit a public place with a lot of people, like a mall or school.
While the study’s findings are a little scary, you shouldn’t freak out over them. This study just helps explain why the flu is so prolific — but it doesn’t mean that the flu has suddenly mutated into a supervirus, Adalja says. “The flu is the same. This is not some new property that the flu has acquired,” he says.

www.brasandbreastcancer.org/home.html
Did you know... Bra-free women have about the same risk of breast cancer as men, while the tighter and longer the bra is worn the higher the risk rises. Red marks or indentations in your skin means your bra is too tight. Sleeping in a bra is the worst thing you can do for your breasts. Bras also cause breasts to droop, and develop cysts and pain. Fibrocystic breast disease should be called Tight Bra Syndrome.
refutes that wearing a bra causes cancer...Dr. Harness (I kid you not)Put a tourniquet on any body part of your choice and let me know what happens after a while. just saying......Health Problems from Wearing Clothes Too Tight Celebrities and every day people alike, have been squeezing into slimming, tight clothing for centuries. Whether it was corsets in the Victorian Age or skinny jeans in modern times, the fashion to be thin has been unsurpassed. Sometimes these styles fit people well, and other times…not so well. For those individuals who need to lie down on their bed or use a hanger to zip up their pants, it might be time to rethink your fashion choice.
Regardless of the fact that often, too tight clothing just doesn’t look good, wearing them might also be putting your health at risk. Here are some documented health problems from wearing clothes that are too tight:
1. Tingling Thigh Syndrome: Although rarely permanent, individuals who wear their jeans too tight can experience nerve problems called meralgia paresthetica. •How to Know: If your thigh tingles with no explanation. •What to Do: Don’t wear your extra tight jeans too often. You may want to buy a pair in the next size for more regular wear.
2. Yeast Infection: When women’s pubic areas are kept tightly under wraps, the area becomes very warm and moist. This makes it a breeding ground for bacteria and, as a result, can cause yeast infections. •How to Know: The vaginal area becomes very itchy, irritating and painful. •What to Do: Especially in the summer, avoid wearing tight pants. Wear sundresses, loose fitting and breezy pants. In the winter, wear a size up and make sure you wear underwear that breathes.
3. Back Pain: When pants are too tight, and are low riding, this can cause nerve compression in the back (similar to the thigh problem above). •How to Know: Numbness and tingling in the legs and possible stress on the back. •What to Do: Choose higher riding pants that fit more loosely.
4. Fainting: Although the corset isn’t as popular as it used to be; tight, constricting clothing can restrict our ability to fully expand our lungs…making our breathing shallow, decreasing our oxygen intake. Clothes that may fall into this category include: wedding undergarments, bustiers, and spandex. •How to Know: If you find it hard to breathe, or worst case scenario, faint, you are wearing too tight clothing. •What to Do: If you are getting married, make sure your dress is fitted properly by a professional. Also, choose undergarments that aren’t too restrictive.
5. Acid Reflux/Heartburn: Tight pressure against your stomach can increase abdominal pressure, causing acid to go back into your esophagus, resulting in heart burn and acid reflux. •How to Know: You experience a burning sensation in the stomach, chest and throat. You also may taste a bitter, acidic taste in your mouth. •What to Do: Eat smaller meals and make sure your belt and pants aren’t too tight.
6. Abdominal Pain/Constipation: Tight pants can slow down the digestive process. •How to Know: Pain in the abdomen for two to three hours after eating a meal. •What to Do: Eat smaller meals and make sure your belt and pants aren’t too tight.
7. Headaches/Blurred Vision: Wearing button down shirts that are too tight in the collar or ties that are tied too tightly can decrease proper circulation to the brain and head. •How to Know: You frequently experience headaches, blurred vision or a tingling sensation in your head. •What to Do: But shirts a neck size larger and wear your tie looser.
So, next time you are tempted to buy a garment that is a bit on the tighter side, think twice. You might be putting your health at risk!
Have you experienced any of these issues from your clothes? Have you adjusted your wardrobe and seen an improvement?

Bee Venom Destroys Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
Nano-particles carrying a toxin found in bee venom can destroy human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) while leaving the surrounding cells unharmed. The research was conducted by the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. The Nanoparticles carry melittin, which is the principal active component of bee venom. Melittin fuses with the HIV virus and destroys it’s protective envelope while molecular bumpers prevent the nanoparticles from harming the body’s normal cells. Bee venom is known to disrupt cellular walls and destroy tumour cells as well. Bee venom contains a potent toxin called melittin that can poke holes in the protective envelope that surrounds HIV, and other viruses. Large amounts of free melittin can cause a lot of damage. Indeed, in addition to anti-viral therapy, the paper’s senior author, Samuel A. Wickline, MD, the J. Russell Hornsby Professor of Biomedical Sciences, has shown melittin-loaded nano-particles to be effective in killing tumor cells.
The new study shows that melittin loaded onto these nanoparticles does not harm normal cells. That’s because Hood added protective bumpers to the nanoparticle surface. When the nanoparticles come into contact with normal cells, which are much larger in size, the particles simply bounce off. HIV, on the other hand, is even smaller than the nanoparticle, so HIV fits between the bumpers and makes contact with the surface of the nanoparticle, where the bee toxin awaits. (1)
Most anti-HIV drugs inhibit the virus’s ability to replicate. This is an anti-replication strategy that does nothing to stop the infection, and many strains of the virus have found ways around these drugs and continue reproducing. Given this discovery, a new vaginal gel could possibly be used in places where HIV is prominent. It can be used as a preventative measure to stop the initial infection and prevent the spread of HIV. The bee venom HIV study was published a several days ago in the journal Antiviral Therapy.
More than 34 million people are living with HIV/AIDS worldwide, and over 3 million of them are under the age of 15. Everyday, thousands of people contract HIV around the world.
It is also important to note the debate surrounding HIV and AIDS. Findings suggest there is not solid scientific evidence that exists today to prove the existence of HIV. AIDS is also under great debate as in some countries it is considered to be one thing while in another, it is something totally different. One can literally be diagnosed with AIDS in one country but not in another. AIDS is often is simply a term for a HUGE umbrella of potential diseases. The only common factor found amongst definitions is if the body’s T-cell count reduces below a specific level. Why is there such a lack of distinction about what AIDS truly is? Why so many different definitions?
“Because it has been surrounded with so much emotion, very few people are capable of looking at AIDS logically.” - Mark Gabrish Conlan, AIDS researcher
“If there is evidence that HIV causes AIDS, there should be scientific documents which either singly or collectively demonstrate that fact, at least with a high probability. There is no such document.” - Dr. Kary Mullis, Biochemist, 1993 Nobel Prize for Chemistry.
“Up to today there is actually no single scientifically convincing evidence for the existence of HIV. Not even once such a retrovirus has been isolated and purified by the methods of classical virology.” - Dr. Heinz Ludwig Sanger, Emeritus Professor of Molecular Biology and Virology, Max-Planck-Institutes for Biochemistry, Munchen.
“…instead of trying to prove his insane theories about AIDS to his peers…he went public. Then, with the help of Margaret Heckler, former head of Health and Human Services, who was under great political pressure to come up with an answer to AIDS, the infamous world press announcement of the discovery of the so-called AIDS virus came about. This great fraud is now responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands… It was no accident that Gallo just happened to patent the test for HIV the day after the announcement…Gallo is now a multi-millionaire because of AIDS and his fraudulent AIDS test.”
It is important to note that a complete understanding of HIV and its isolated existence has not yet been attained by the medical field. Among the scientific community this has been a debate for many years and it is critical for us to keep an open mind about the subject as much research has been put into it. More can be discovered here.

Miracle cancer treatment discovered at StanfordCancer ‘vaccine’ eliminates tumors in miceActivating T cells in tumors eliminated even distant metastases in mice, Stanford researchers found. Lymphoma patients are being recruited to test the technique in a clinical trial. Jan 31 2018
Ronald Levy (left) and Idit Sagiv-Barfi led the work on a possible cancer treatment that involves injecting two immune-stimulating agents directly into solid tumors. Steve Fisch
Injecting minute amounts of two immune-stimulating agents directly into solid tumors in mice can eliminate all traces of cancer in the animals, including distant, untreated metastases, according to a study by researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine.
The approach works for many different types of cancers, including those that arise spontaneously, the study found.
The researchers believe the local application of very small amounts of the agents could serve as a rapid and relatively inexpensive cancer therapy that is unlikely to cause the adverse side effects often seen with bodywide immune stimulation.
“When we use these two agents together, we see the elimination of tumors all over the body,” said Ronald Levy, MD, professor of oncology. “This approach bypasses the need to identify tumor-specific immune targets and doesn’t require wholesale activation of the immune system or customization of a patient’s immune cells.”
One agent is currently already approved for use in humans; the other has been tested for human use in several unrelated clinical trials. A clinical trial was launched in January to test the effect of the treatment in patients with lymphoma. (Information about the trial is available online.)
Levy, who holds the Robert K. and Helen K. Summy Professorship in the School of Medicine, is the senior author of the study, which was published Jan. 31 in Science Translational Medicine. Instructor of medicine Idit Sagiv-Barfi, PhD, is the lead author.
‘Amazing, bodywide effects’
Levy is a pioneer in the field of cancer immunotherapy, in which researchers try to harness the immune system to combat cancer. Research in his laboratory led to the development of rituximab, one of the first monoclonal antibodies approved for use as an anticancer treatment in humans.
Some immunotherapy approaches rely on stimulating the immune system throughout the body. Others target naturally occurring checkpoints that limit the anti-cancer activity of immune cells. Still others, like the CAR T-cell therapy recently approved to treat some types of leukemia and lymphomas, require a patient’s immune cells to be removed from the body and genetically engineered to attack the tumor cells. Many of these approaches have been successful, but they each have downsides — from difficult-to-handle side effects to high-cost and lengthy preparation or treatment times.
“All of these immunotherapy advances are changing medical practice,” Levy said. “Our approach uses a one-time application of very small amounts of two agents to stimulate the immune cells only within the tumor itself. In the mice, we saw amazing, bodywide effects, including the elimination of tumors all over the animal.”
Cancers often exist in a strange kind of limbo with regard to the immune system. Immune cells like T cells recognize the abnormal proteins often present on cancer cells and infiltrate to attack the tumor. However, as the tumor grows, it often devises ways to suppress the activity of the T cells.
Levy’s method works to reactivate the cancer-specific T cells by injecting microgram amounts of two agents directly into the tumor site. (A microgram is one-millionth of a gram). One, a short stretch of DNA called a CpG oligonucleotide, works with other nearby immune cells to amplify the expression of an activating receptor called OX40 on the surface of the T cells. The other, an antibody that binds to OX40, activates the T cells to lead the charge against the cancer cells. Because the two agents are injected directly into the tumor, only T cells that have infiltrated it are activated. In effect, these T cells are “prescreened” by the body to recognize only cancer-specific proteins.
Cancer-destroying rangers
Some of these tumor-specific, activated T cells then leave the original tumor to find and destroy other identical tumors throughout the body.
The approach worked startlingly well in laboratory mice with transplanted mouse lymphoma tumors in two sites on their bodies. Injecting one tumor site with the two agents caused the regression not just of the treated tumor, but also of the second, untreated tumor. In this way, 87 of 90 mice were cured of the cancer. Although the cancer recurred in three of the mice, the tumors again regressed after a second treatment. The researchers saw similar results in mice bearing breast, colon and melanoma tumors.
I don’t think there’s a limit to the type of tumor we could potentially treat, as long as it has been infiltrated by the immune system.
Mice genetically engineered to spontaneously develop breast cancers in all 10 of their mammary pads also responded to the treatment. Treating the first tumor that arose often prevented the occurrence of future tumors and significantly increased the animals’ life span, the researchers found.
Finally, Sagiv-Barfi explored the specificity of the T cells by transplanting two types of tumors into the mice. She transplanted the same lymphoma cancer cells in two locations, and she transplanted a colon cancer cell line in a third location. Treatment of one of the lymphoma sites caused the regression of both lymphoma tumors but did not affect the growth of the colon cancer cells.
“This is a very targeted approach,” Levy said. “Only the tumor that shares the protein targets displayed by the treated site is affected. We’re attacking specific targets without having to identify exactly what proteins the T cells are recognizing.” The current clinical trial is expected to recruit about 15 patients with low-grade lymphoma. If successful, Levy believes the treatment could be useful for many tumor types. He envisions a future in which clinicians inject the two agents into solid tumors in humans prior to surgical removal of the cancer as a way to prevent recurrence due to unidentified metastases or lingering cancer cells, or even to head off the development of future tumors that arise due to genetic mutations like BRCA1 and 2.
“I don’t think there’s a limit to the type of tumor we could potentially treat, as long as it has been infiltrated by the immune system,” Levy said.
The work is an example of Stanford Medicine’s focus on precision health, the goal of which is to anticipate and prevent disease in the healthy and precisely diagnose and treat disease in the ill.
The study’s other Stanford co-authors are senior research assistant and lab manager Debra Czerwinski; professor of medicine Shoshana Levy, PhD; postdoctoral scholar Israt Alam, PhD; graduate student Aaron Mayer; and professor of radiology Sanjiv Gambhir, MD, PhD.
Levy is a member of the Stanford Cancer Institute and Stanford Bio-X.
Gambhir is the founder and equity holder in CellSight Inc., which develops and translates multimodality strategies to image cell trafficking and transplantation.
The research was supported by the National Institutes of Health (grant CA188005), the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Boaz and Varda Dotan Foundation and the Phil N. Allen Foundation.
Stanford’s Department of Medicine also supported the work.

I heard an interview with this interesting woman but it hasn't been made available yet. She also wrote a book on Smell and Scents and how it affects us. There are many videos from her on youtube about that.
Eating the right foods is just about the best thing we can do for a healthy brain and body. Rachel discusses why we make the choices we do. Why You Eat What You Eat: The Science Behind Our Relationship with Food
by Rachel Herz
Food, along with sex, is key to the survival of humans and provides pleasure along with sustenance. Our relationship with food is exceptionally complex and influenced by a host of external factors. In Why You Eat What You Eat, neuroscientist Rachel Herz reveals the surprising reasons we decide what (and how much) to eat.
Herz identifies different types of tasters ("supertasters" are most likely to dislike strong flavors like cilantro, but are also less likely to become alcoholics, while sriracha-loving "non-tasters" who yearn for big flavor are more susceptible). Yet taste alone does not solely dictate our food choices. Smell is an important influencer, and the stronger the aroma of a food, the higher the satisfaction level and the less we will consume. The adage "our eyes are bigger than our stomachs" is true, so eating meals on small plates will satisfy our brains when the plate is empty. But Herz cautions against the "health halo effect"--if a snack promotes its health benefits too much, we will reach for seconds. Are organic food consumers healthier than the rest of us? Not necessarily, since the health benefits of organic food entitles consumers to choose decadent desserts along with their kale salad. Conversely, Herz discusses comfort food--satisfying but unhealthy--and how nostalgia and other factors (like a reaction to a sports game or the night of the 2016 presidential election) may tell our brains to shovel it in.
Using dozens of research studies, Herz provides readers with a greater awareness of the brain's complicated and contradictory relationship with food, and a roadmap to make smarter food choices down the road. --Frank Brasile, selection librarian, writer, editor
Discover: Revealing and fun, this tour of the relationship between food and the brain will enable readers to make informed decisions about what, and how much, we eat.

forbiddenmedicine.org/IS NON-TOXIC CANCER TREATMENT BEING SUPPRESSED?
Hundreds of people who wrote to the court in Jimmy Keller's defense in 1991 thought so. Many wrote that he had kept their cancers in remission when nothing else would. This is the true story of a man who cured himself of a near-fatal cancer after conventional medicine had mutilated and then abandoned him. He spent the next thirty years helping others with the disease. In the struggle to keep his clinic open, he faced raids and robberies, a near-fatal beating, a kidnapping, and a prison sentence many called justice gone wrong. The details of his therapies, and the history and vicissitudes of the non-traditional health care movement that his life personifies, are woven throughout his story. While politicians debate how to impose Modern Medicine on us all, this story needs to be retold.
The need for alternative viewpoints and a broader spectrum of analysis is widely needed, and is fulfilled in Forbidden Medicine. At a stage in the evolution of mankind in which we need to pool all efforts towards a better understanding of the healing process, Ellen Brown's writings prove to be a valuable contribution. - Carlos Warter, M.D., Ph.D., Author of Recovery of the Sacred
The story of Jimmy Keller, a purveyor of formulas said to cure cancer, and a purported "quack," is a story every American should know, and every cancer patient should take to heart. The cancer statistics speak for themselves -- "the war on cancer" is a travesty. - Review by Irene Alleger in Townsend Letter for Doctors
What an incredible irony. Millions of Americans have died from cancer in the last 20 years, yet here we have a man who can put about 90% of people (who have not been treated with chemotherapy/radiation) into lengthy remission using natural non-toxic therapies, but he is attacked and imprisoned for saving lives. Why? - Gavin Phillips, “Highly Recommended Books,” CancerInform.org

EXCELLENT SITE:11 Wellness Trends To Watch In 2018www.mindbodygreen.com/articles/wellness-trends-2018
December 11, 2017 — 10:40 AM
In 2017, the definition of "wellness" shifted. At mindbodygreen, we know that wellness is bigger than any individual’s journey. We are banding together to heal one another, our communities, and the planet. mbg's new look and feel are reflective of our evolved purpose, and so is our new mantra, one we hope will illuminate the way to a better, brighter 2018: You. We. All.
We're excited that this year’s trends set the stage for a world in which wellness is more accessible than ever. In previous years, our predictions were spot on. Back in 2015, we called out supplement startups and the role of telomeres in aging. In 2016, guac was everywhere (we're not complaining), healthy tourism became an industry, and people made their homes sanctuaries complete with greenery and succulents. Last year, we were one of the first to call women's spaces and circles a trend, and we also saw personalized nutrition, medicinal mushrooms, and ketosis take off.
This year, big corporations are responding to consumer demand for better personal care products, higher-quality food, and sustainability practices. At the same time, cutting-edge research on intermittent fasting and the microbiome offer promising outlooks for feeling our best and healing disease. Protecting the planet with #zerowaste initiatives will catch on big time in 2018, and femtech will drive a new wave of women’s empowerment.
If our annual revitalize event was any indication, our priorities are shifting rapidly—giving us renewed motivation to take care of ourselves, one another, and our Mother Earth. We spoke to industry experts and pored over the latest research, and all signs point to a 2018 that’s more intentional, purposeful, and mission-driven.
It’s time to use the incredible practices we have established to make the world a better place for ourselves, our children, and our planet. Here's to a progressive 2018!

Dim light may be shrinking your brain
Health & Wellbeing Ben Coxworth |February 5th, 2018
If you've opted to go for low "mood lighting" in your office, you might want to think again. According to a new study from Michigan State University, when rats are exposed to dim lighting for prolonged periods, their brain capacity diminishes. The same could likely be true for humans.
The rodents used in the study were Nile grass rats, which are diurnal – that means they sleep at night and are active during the day.
When a group of the animals were exposed to dim light during the day for a period of four weeks, they lost about 30 percent of the capacity in their hippocampus, which is a part of the brain associated with learning and memory. They thus performed poorly on a spatial task that they had learned and performed previously.
Another group of rats had been exposed to bright light every day for four weeks, and their performance on that same task improved after that time. Additionally, the performance and brain capacity of the dim-light rats recovered fully, after they were given a break for one month and then subjected to four weeks of bright light.
It was found that sustained exposure to dim light led to a marked reduction in brain derived neurotrophic factor, which is a peptide that maintains healthy connections and neurons in the hippocampus. The dim light also caused a reduction in dendritic spines, which are the connections that allow neurons to communicate with one another.
Because light doesn't affect the hippocampus directly, the scientists believe that it must first be acting on other parts of the brain, after passing through the eyes. One area that's a possibility is a group of neurons within the hypothalamus, which produce a peptide known as orexin. That peptide, in turn, is known to influence a variety of brain functions.
Given this fact, the researchers wonder if giving orexin to the dim-light rats would have the same affect as exposing them to bright light. If it does, then it could have implications for people such as the elderly, or those who have eye problems.
"For people with eye disease who don't receive much light, can we directly manipulate this group of neurons in the brain, bypassing the eye, and provide them with the same benefits of bright light exposure?" asks Lily Yan, who worked on the project along with Antonio "Tony" Nunez and Joel Soler. "Another possibility is improving the cognitive function in the aging population and those with neurological disorders. Can we help them recover from the impairment or prevent further decline?".

Dr. Ross Pelton on the Human Microbiome and Probiotics (ok, so a lot of these health professionals look like death warmed over but it doesn't mean their message isn't a good one) Biofilms and Quorum Sensing Aya Haroun Published on Feb 15, 2017 The study of biofilms represents a radical new way of understanding the microbiology of virtually everything around us, from problems that afflict industry to serious public health issues. Along with this new understanding comes an exciting opportunity for a new generation of researchers and practitioners: the opportunity to rethink our strategies for dealing with biofilm problems and solutions that in the past were overlooked or not handled correctly, because no one recognized that biofilms were involved. The potential to do immense good for our world as a whole is held out to those who enter this field. Download full presentation: adf.ly/1juFKG

Back in the 1970's Phoenix and the Valley of the Sun was a bit of a New Age mecca crawling with interesting characters, mediums, psychic bookstores, psychic fairs...you name it they had it going on. I became interested in Wilhelm Reich and his orgone energy theories. Some stores actually had some of his original inventions (which I wished now I had purchased $$$) I realize this may be far out for many people but if you are so inclined you might want to try this out and explore the history of this great man.
ORGONE BLANKET OR PILLOW
First, this is an easy orgone accumulator to build. Anyone can do it with materials that should be available at most places around the world.
Materials needed are: a) rolls of cotton b) rolls of steel wool c) cotton fabric or a pillow case.
A double layer consisting of a layer steel wool and a layer of cotton. is also known as a "fold" in orgone accumulators. One can make this blanket or pillow size accumulator with as many "folds" as their fabric will allow. The fabric used to enclose the accumulator should be fairly thin fabric like that used on a pillow case.
To constuct an orac the size of a pillow, one should start making alternating layers of steel wool and cotton. Make sure that the square footage size of each layer is slightly smaller than the size of the pillow case so that it may be inserted into the pillow case when all the layers are done. Be sure each layer is thick enough so that the layer below can not be seen though the upper layer. Generally a three to five "fold" accumulator is ample to fit into a pillow case. Be sure to have the steel wool as the bottom layer and the cotton as the top layer.
When construction is complete please be sure to follow these important instructions and cautions of use as given in Wilhelm Reich's literature.
1. Always have the steel wool side facing what ever you are using the accumulator on. 2. Do "not" use near electrical fields. Some examples are: televisions, microwaves, flourescent lights, and any high radiation such as xrays or nuclear radiation. 3. It is not recommended to use accumulators during rainy weather, heavily clouded weather, and smoggy or hazy weather. 4. Do not sleep with this as if it is a pillow rather use it as a blanket pad. If used on your body it was recommended by Wilhelm Reich to be used no more than two times a day for less than 45 minutes. We make absolutely no medical claims for this device. We make this information available for use of research only. Accumulators can be used to detect a temperature differential from the inside verses the outside which may vary depending on atmospheric conditions. Research of other variables connected accumulators such as magnetic effects, humidity, electroscopes, and a variety of other factors that may be deemed appropriate by the researcher to be useful in further understanding in how and why the accumulator works.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) What is EMDR?
For Clinicians:
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment that was originally designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories (Shapiro, 1989a, 1989b). Shapiro’s (2001) Adaptive Information Processing model posits that EMDR therapy facilitates the accessing and processing of traumatic memories and other adverse life experience to bring these to an adaptive resolution. After successful treatment with EMDR therapy, affective distress is relieved, negative beliefs are reformulated, and physiological arousal is reduced. During EMDR therapy the client attends to emotionally disturbing material in brief sequential doses while simultaneously focusing on an external stimulus. Therapist directed lateral eye movements are the most commonly used external stimulus but a variety of other stimuli including hand-tapping and audio stimulation are often used (Shapiro, 1991). Shapiro (1995, 2001) hypothesizes that EMDR therapy facilitates the accessing of the traumatic memory network, so that information processing is enhanced, with new associations forged between the traumatic memory and more adaptive memories or information. These new associations are thought to result in complete information processing, new learning, elimination of emotional distress, and development of cognitive insights. EMDR therapy uses a three pronged protocol: (1) the past events that have laid the groundwork for dysfunction are processed, forging new associative links with adaptive information; (2) the current circumstances that elicit distress are targeted, and internal and external triggers are desensitized; (3) imaginal templates of future events are incorporated, to assist the client in acquiring the skills needed for adaptive functioning.
For Laypeople:
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. When you cut your hand, your body works to close the wound. If a foreign object or repeated injury irritates the wound, it festers and causes pain. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. EMDR therapy demonstrates that a similar sequence of events occurs with mental processes. The brain’s information processing system naturally moves toward mental health. If the system is blocked or imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event, the emotional wound festers and can cause intense suffering. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. Using the detailed protocols and procedures learned in EMDR therapy training sessions, clinicians help clients activate their natural healing processes.
More than 30 positive controlled outcome studies have been done on EMDR therapy. Some of the studies show that 84%-90% of single-trauma victims no longer have post-traumatic stress disorder after only three 90-minute sessions. Another study, funded by the HMO Kaiser Permanente, found that 100% of the single-trauma victims and 77% of multiple trauma victims no longer were diagnosed with PTSD after only six 50-minute sessions. In another study, 77% of combat veterans were free of PTSD in 12 sessions. There has been so much research on EMDR therapy that it is now recognized as an effective form of treatment for trauma and other disturbing experiences by organizations such as the American Psychiatric Association, the World Health Organization and the Department of Defense. Given the worldwide recognition as an effective treatment of trauma, you can easily see how EMDR therapy would be effective in treating the “everyday” memories that are the reason people have low self-esteem, feelings of powerlessness, and all the myriad problems that bring them in for therapy. Over 100,000 clinicians throughout the world use the therapy. Millions of people have been treated successfully over the past 25 years.
EMDR therapy is an eight-phase treatment. Eye movements (or other bilateral stimulation) are used during one part of the session. After the clinician has determined which memory to target first, he asks the client to hold different aspects of that event or thought in mind and to use his eyes to track the therapist’s hand as it moves back and forth across the client’s field of vision. As this happens, for reasons believed by a Harvard researcher to be connected with the biological mechanisms involved in Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep, internal associations arise and the clients begin to process the memory and disturbing feelings. In successful EMDR therapy, the meaning of painful events is transformed on an emotional level. For instance, a rape victim shifts from feeling horror and self-disgust to holding the firm belief that, “I survived it and I am strong.” Unlike talk therapy, the insights clients gain in EMDR therapy result not so much from clinician interpretation, but from the client’s own accelerated intellectual and emotional processes. The net effect is that clients conclude EMDR therapy feeling empowered by the very experiences that once debased them. Their wounds have not just closed, they have transformed. As a natural outcome of the EMDR therapeutic process, the clients’ thoughts, feelings and behavior are all robust indicators of emotional health and resolution—all without speaking in detail or doing homework used in other therapies.
Treatment Description:
EMDR therapy combines different elements to maximize treatment effects. A full description of the theory, sequence of treatment, and research on protocols and active mechanisms can be found in F. Shapiro (2001) Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing: Basic principles, protocols and procedures (2nd edition) New York: Guilford Press.
EMDR therapy involves attention to three time periods: the past, present, and future. Focus is given to past disturbing memories and related events. Also, it is given to current situations that cause distress, and to developing the skills and attitudes needed for positive future actions. With EMDR therapy, these items are addressed using an eight-phase treatment approach.
Phase 1: The first phase is a history-taking session(s). The therapist assesses the client’s readiness and develops a treatment plan. Client and therapist identify possible targets for EMDR processing. These include distressing memories and current situations that cause emotional distress. Other targets may include related incidents in the past. Emphasis is placed on the development of specific skills and behaviors that will be needed by the client in future situations.
Initial EMDR processing may be directed to childhood events rather than to adult onset stressors or the identified critical incident if the client had a problematic childhood. Clients generally gain insight on their situations, the emotional distress resolves and they start to change their behaviors. The length of treatment depends upon the number of traumas and the age of PTSD onset. Generally, those with single event adult onset trauma can be successfully treated in under 5 hours. Multiple trauma victims may require a longer treatment time.
Phase 2: During the second phase of treatment, the therapist ensures that the client has several different ways of handling emotional distress. The therapist may teach the client a variety of imagery and stress reduction techniques the client can use during and between sessions. A goal of EMDR therapy is to produce rapid and effective change while the client maintains equilibrium during and between sessions.
Phases 3-6: In phases three to six, a target is identified and processed using EMDR therapy procedures. These involve the client identifying three things: 1. The vivid visual image related to the memory 2. A negative belief about self 3. Related emotions and body sensations.
In addition, the client identifies a positive belief. The therapist helps the client rate the positive belief as well as the intensity of the negative emotions. After this, the client is instructed to focus on the image, negative thought, and body sensations while simultaneously engaging in EMDR processing using sets of bilateral stimulation. These sets may include eye movements, taps, or tones. The type and length of these sets is different for each client. At this point, the EMDR client is instructed to just notice whatever spontaneously happens.
After each set of stimulation, the clinician instructs the client to let his/her mind go blank and to notice whatever thought, feeling, image, memory, or sensation comes to mind. Depending upon the client’s report, the clinician will choose the next focus of attention. These repeated sets with directed focused attention occur numerous times throughout the session. If the client becomes distressed or has difficulty in progressing, the therapist follows established procedures to help the client get back on track.
When the client reports no distress related to the targeted memory, (s)he is asked to think of the preferred positive belief that was identified at the beginning of the session. At this time, the client may adjust the positive belief if necessary, and then focus on it during the next set of distressing events.
Phase 7: In phase seven, closure, the therapist asks the client to keep a log during the week. The log should document any related material that may arise. It serves to remind the client of the self-calming activities that were mastered in phase two.
Phase 8: The next session begins with phase eight. Phase eight consists of examining the progress made thus far. The EMDR treatment processes all related historical events, current incidents that elicit distress, and future events that will require different responses

Wrist Device Shows Promise for Hand TremorsFRIDAY, April 20, 2018 -- A wrist device that stimulates nerves in the arm may bring some relief to people with hand tremors, a preliminary study suggests.
The research involved more than 100 patients with essential tremor -- a neurological condition that causes trembling in the hands, legs, head or trunk. Researchers found that the wrist device, worn a couple times per day, reduced the severity of most patients' hand and arm tremors.
It also made routine daily tasks a little easier, the investigators added.
They stressed, however, that the study is preliminary, and it's not yet known whether the therapy can bring lasting benefits.
"This is a very early study, and there are still lots of questions," said lead researcher Dr. Rajesh Pahwa, of the University of Kansas Medical Center.
"I think the biggest concern long-term is that patients could develop a tolerance to the stimulation," he said.
Dr. Vicki Shanker is a neurologist at the Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine in New York City. She was not involved with the study but reviewed its findings.
She agreed that it's "unclear if patients will have sustained benefits from this therapy."
But, Shanker said, "the initial findings certainly warrant larger studies, and will likely be met with great enthusiasm by the essential tremor community."
Essential tremor affects upwards of 7 million Americans, according to the American Academy of Neurology. Its cause is unknown, and there is no cure.
Medications, including certain blood pressure and anti-seizure drugs, can help control the tremors. But their use is often limited by side effects, Shanker said.
When drugs fail, another option is deep brain stimulation (DBS), where electrodes are placed in a specific brain region that helps control muscle activity. A pacemaker-like device, implanted under the collarbone, can then continuously send electrical pulses to the brain area -- blocking the signals that cause the tremors.
But while DBS can work, many patients want options that are less invasive, Shanker said.
Given that, the early results with the new wrist device are "exciting," she said.

PUBMED.GOVPubMed comprises more than 28 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books. Citations may include links to full-text content from PubMed Central and publisher web sites.
PubMed is a free search engine accessing primarily the MEDLINE database of references and abstracts on life sciences and biomedical topics. The United States National Library of Medicine (NLM) at the National Institutes of Health maintains the database as part of the Entrez system of information retrieval.
From 1971 to 1997, MEDLINE online access to the MEDLARS Online computerized database primarily had been through institutional facilities, such as university libraries. PubMed, first released in January 1996, ushered in the era of private, free, home- and office-based MEDLINE searching. The PubMed system was offered free to the public in June 1997, when MEDLINE searches via the Web were demonstrated, in a ceremony, by US Vice President Al Gore.
Content
In addition to MEDLINE, PubMed provides access to: older references from the print version of Index Medicus, back to 1951 and earlier references to some journals before they were indexed in Index Medicus and MEDLINE, for instance Science, BMJ, and Annals of Surgery very recent entries to records for an article before it is indexed with Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and added to MEDLINE a collection of books available full-text and other subsets of NLM records PMC citations NCBI Bookshelf
Many PubMed records contain links to full text articles, some of which are freely available, often in PubMed Central and local mirrors such as UK PubMed Central.
Information about the journals indexed in MEDLINE, and available through PubMed, is found in the NLM Catalog.
As of 11 July 2017, PubMed has more than 27.3 million records going back to 1966, selectively to the year 1865, and very selectively to 1809; about 500,000 new records are added each year. As of the same date, 13.1 million of PubMed's records are listed with their abstracts, and 14.2 million articles have links to full-text (of which 3.8 million articles are available, full-text for free for any user). Approximately 12% of the records in PubMed correspond to cancer-related entries, which have grown from 6% in the 1950s to 16% in 2016. Other significant proportion of records correspond to “Chemistry” (8.69%), “Therapy” (8.39%) and "Infection" (5%).
In 2016, NLM changed the indexing system so that publishers will be able to directly correct typos and errors in PubMed indexed articles. More: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PubMed www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/

A sleep expert explains what happens to your body and brain if you don't get sleep Noah Friedman and Lamar Salter Dec. 26, 2017, 12:24 PM Sleep expert Matthew Walker breaks down the many effects of sleep deprivation on your brain and body. Following is a transcript of the video.
Matthew Walker: My name is Matthew Walker, I am a professor of neuroscience and psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, and I am the author of the book "Why We Sleep."
We certainly know that a lack of sleep will actually prevent your brain from being able to initially make new memories, so it's almost as though without sleep the memory inbox of the brain shuts down and you can't commit new experiences to memory. So those new incoming informational emails are just bounced, and you end up feeling as though you're amnesiac. You can't essentially make and create those new memories.
We also know that a lack of sleep will lead to an increased development of a toxic protein in the brain that is called beta-amyloid and that is associated with Alzheimer's disease because it is during deep sleep at night when a sewage system within the brain actually kicks in to high gear and it starts to wash away this toxic protein, beta-amyloid.
So if you're not getting enough sleep each and every night, more of that Alzheimer's-related protein will build up. The more protein that builds up, the greater your risk of going on to develop dementia in later life.
What are the effects of sleep deprivation on the body? Well, there are many different effects. Firstly, we know that sleep deprivation affects the reproductive system. We know that men who are sleeping just five to six hours a night have a level of testosterone which is that of someone ten years their senior. So a lack of sleep will age you by almost a decade in terms of that aspect of virility and wellness.
We also know that a lack of sleep impacts your immune system. So after just one night of four to five hours of sleep, there is a 70% reduction in critical anticancer-fighting immune cells called natural killer cells. And that's the reason that we know that short sleep duration predicts your risk for developing numerous forms of cancer. And that list currently includes cancer of the bowel, cancer of the prostate, as well as cancer of the breast.
In fact, the link between a lack of sleep and cancer is now so strong that recently the World Health Organization decided to classify any form of nighttime shift work as a probable carcinogen. So in other words, jobs that may induce cancer because of a disruption of your sleep rate rhythms.
We also know that a lack of sleep impacts your cardiovascular system because it is during deep sleep at night that you receive this most wonderful form of effectively blood pressure medication. Your heart rate drops, your blood pressure goes down.
If you're not getting sufficient sleep, you're not getting that reboot of the cardiovascular system, so your blood pressure rises. You have, if you're getting six hours of sleep or less, a 200% increased risk of having a fatal heart attack or stroke in your lifetime.
There is a global experiment that is performed on 1.6 billion people twice a year and it's called daylight savings time. And we know that in the spring, when we lose one hour of sleep, we see a subsequent 24% increase in heart attacks the following day.
Another question, perhaps, is what is the recycle rate of a human being? How long can we actually last without sleep before we start to see declines in your brain function or even impairments within your body? And the answer seems to be about 16 hours of wakefulness.
Once you get past 16 hours of being awake, that's when we start to see mental deterioration and physiological deterioration in the body. We know that after you've been awake for 19 or 20 hours, your mental capacity is so impaired that you would be as deficient as someone who was legally drunk behind the wheel of a car. So if you were to ask me what is the recycle rate of a human being, it does seem to be about 16 hours and we need about eight hours of sleep to repair the damage of wakefulness. Wakefulness essentially is low-level brain damage.
[ Try listening for 3 minutes ] and Fall into deep sleep Immediately with relaxing delta wave music

I am just learning about this particular vitamin but it appears to be extremely important and is a vitamin that is lacking in the western diet mostly because it is present in foods that we have been told NOT to eat. Evidently there is a big difference between the K vitamins as well as using vitamin D for its absorption with K 2 being most important. There are so many videos on this subject so I would recommend you visit youtube and explore it yourself. This one vitamin family could change your life and it is important to not only take a supplement but first and foremost get it in your diet.VITAMIN KEric Berg, MD www.youtube.com/channel/UC3w193M5tYPJqF0Hi-7U-2gRichard Gerhauser M.D. www.youtube.com/channel/UC5TNqGNsXDwg1ocvZPKMy3gDr. Mercola www.youtube.com/channel/UCxscQY7X0mtnaCbkGTjZ17gKiran Krishnan (this guy is good. search for his videos.):

I have had experience with Eric but this was before he became so popular and famous. He was a small time healer who had a chiropractic practice in West Hollywood and I traveled to him from Arizona. This was back probably in the mid-1990's after hearing him interviewed by Frank Baronowski who had a local radio show in Phoenix. At least for me I can tell when a healing is taking place just by this unusual feeling I get when on a visit. With Eric, he had me lay down on a massage type table that was covered with a blanket and then he left the room. I closed my eyes and almost immediately I felt like I was levitating off the table and was feeling quite fuzzy. After a few minutes of this I decided to open my eyes to peek and discovered he wasn't even in the room yet and I was lying solidly on the table, not elevated. I have had similar experiences with other healers and those that gave me that sensation seemed to be the ones that helped me the most. And there IS a difference between a "healing" and being "healed" or "cured." I have found that this is a process and takes effort on one's part as well. Typically healers want 3 consecutive daily visits. I don't know if Eric does personal healings anymore. He may be too busy with his reconnective classes to do that but it is possible. He may also know of other healers that do. He is very into the group healing thing now. www.thereconnection.com/ youtube channel: www.youtube.com/user/TheReconnectionTV
