It's not a certified signature. The "L" seems weird and the "R" strikes me as off -- too "roll-y".

The 'L' is possible, but the 'R' is off...

Thanks, Robert. The screen shot is from an ebay auction, a signed album cover (with album). I always thought that the PID album cover would look great framed, but didn't want to unless it was autographed. What makes me cautious is mainly that "R", and the starting bid of $9.99 (with no bids so far). I compared it to another autograph on HDTW since the albums were close together in time, but while there are overall similarities, there are many obvious differences. I would love to have that but I don't want to be taken. The seller has a 100% rating (with lots of ratings), and seems to sell a lot of signed memorabilia, but I don't know if that is reassuring or not. Note to Linda: Did you autograph this?

The autograph on the album cover doesn't strike me as authentic. It even looks like the last name is misspelled. Even when she writes quickly, I don't have any autographs that look like that.

I know, Pop.
As much as they vary, her signatures always have the lead-in stroke on the "i" in her first name, and on the "R" in her last.
I'll reluctantly pass on this.

Yeah I agree with you guys.. the signature looks off. even at first glance..the R is too big and the letters of her last name seem too squished together. I don't know? it could be authentic because my handwriting changes all the time... not sure about Linda's.. I would pass too.

Looking at the signature, and I'm not a handwriting analyst, the handwriting looks more like a man's handwriting than a woman's. I just don't see it as being Linda's handwriting. The 'R' is definitely suspicious and looks more like it started out as a 'D' which someone wrote over with an 'O.' Further, the 'L' is a harshly written 'L,' and the letter that follows looks like a small 'c' rather than an 'i.'
As Dianna notes, our handwriting changes and if it was Linda who signed, she must've been in quite a rush, because except for that 'L,' it looks too rushed and looks like a man's writing. My Ls are very similar and I have terrible handwriting. I prefer typing anything myself. The seller may be genuine but you have to wonder how many people have bought autographed items from the seller and had the autographs authenticated? And how could you be sure of the expertise of the person authenticating?

Thanks everyone for your opinions on this. I've looked at Linda's signatures around the time of PID and HDTW, and the one under scrutiny set off alarms. Besides that spiral "R", I've noticed that the "L", besides what Slide mentioned, doesn't have the slant that her other signatures have I guess an autographed copy of PID for $9.99 was too good to be true. Especially since a signed copy of Trio is going for $399.00 and an autographed photo of her in that iconic, off-the-shoulder white blouse is selling for $565.00! But then, both of those signatures are authenticated. Which makes me wonder how much authentication costs. Seems the seller of PID would get that signature authenticated and boost the price accordingly.

Richard--Now that you mention the price, I'm even more sure it's a fake!! Plus, if you don't get the autograph in person, it loses a great deal of meaning and value in my opinion.

Maybe the PID autograph was from Holly Aprecio? (jk)

Dug this thread up as we have been discussing Linda's book.
There are many Linda signatures, some very neat calligraphy, some more scrawled. Are certificates/stickers of authenticity any better guarantee of a signature being genuine, the real deal, and if so what's kosher & what's not?

Are certificates/stickers of authenticity any better guarantee of a signature being genuine, the real deal, and if so what's kosher & what's not? When Linda autographed things hurriedly, her handwriting was kind of scrawl. I have a few of those, but I got them in person, so I know they're authentic! PSA. Professionals Sports Authenticator or PSA is the most trusted company that authenticates an array of signatures. Every autograph is examined by three or more PSA or DNA autograph experts, and representatives witness each item being signed.

Because I search for something Linda Ronstadt-related on eBay, now I am receiving emails about "Autographed Linda Ronstadt Photo" and I look at them and the signatures do no look right. Also, they are asking, in my opinion, quite a lot of money for these. You would think that eBay would not want to be promoting bogus stuff, but ...

My SD books I trust, but I would like a genuine one from earlier in Linda's career too. PoP80, thanks for your PSA advice, I'll watch for those in my price range. I wonder how many thousands Linda signed in her career!
