Thanks for the info guys! Didn't even know "I can't help it" was the flip side of "you're no good" wasn't much on 45's-hung with album freaks. The monthly comment was in reference to the fact that exactly one month ago the station played the same song. If I work up the courage I'm going to call the station and mention Linda's extensive country catalog and see if they will play more of her stuff.

There are a lot of songs they could play. Radio stations are pretty good at listening to you re: requests. Do they have a request time on that station, moe? On wjrz 100.1 fm, they have a lunch request hour. only one time when I called they couldn't get to my request. If a station does not take requests per se, it would be up to the playlist personnel who would hopefully get your feedback from the dj if he/she does not do any programming. Thanks for your motivation to get Linda played, moe!!!!!!! eddiejinnj

Thanks for the info guys! Didn't even know "I can't help it" was the flip side of "you're no good" wasn't much on 45's-hung with album freaks. The last 45 I bought was "Hey, Jude," in 1968. I didn't know until very recently that you could still buy 45s into the '80s. The only single I ever bought by Linda was "Different Drum," and then I hardly knew about her until 1976, when someone played "Long, Long Time" for me as we were breaking up. I went out and bought every album I could get my hands on, which was the Different Drum album, Heart like a Wheel, and everything on Asylum through Hasten down the Wind. And that's when Linda became my favorite singer of all time. I have never grown tired of her, as I have some of my lesser favorites (the Beatles, the Beach Boys, later Springsteen). The only music I have enjoyed as consistently as Linda's are the symphonies of Gustav Mahler. Anyway, long story short, Linda has always been an album artist for me.

Kasey Kasem's America's Top 40 for this week in 1978: Linda's "Back in the USA" was at Number 20 moving up 4 spots from the week before. I believe it peaks at 18. This song is from Linda's "Living in the USA" album, which would be Number One Nov. 1, 1978. eddiejinnj

This would be "Back In The USA", the album's de facto title track; and it would actually peak at #16.

Love to listen to that song "Back In The USA." It is one of those songs that really gets you moving and singing. It is also a song that is a tradition during July 4th on many celebrations with radio stations everywhere. Seems to be more hip and up to date than the original.
Funny to hear Kerri Kasem on the radio now every week.

The station where I can hear Casey only broadcasts the American Top 40 shows from the 80s (they did away with the 70s back in April), so I have really not heard much of Linda except from the Mad Love album. The next possible time I could hear AT-40 and hear anything of Linda's would be towards the end of this month, if they run the AT-40's from late October 1982, when "Get Closer" was on the chart.

heard "wwibloved" today on 91.9 fm in ocean county, nj. it is a small station I usually only hear when I stop in one thrift shop in the area of the station. It is supposed to be a standards station. They do play Michael Buble standards type music too. I have never heard Linda on there as she would be a natural for their playlist. Today was in the there and they have on the aforementioned. Was good to hear. eddiejinnj

Did some traveling lately (driving from IL->PA) and I heard Linda at the feeds at two different Truck Stops. It may be anecdotal, but in my experience I seem to be hearing more Linda on the radio (or at least the commercial store feeds). Anyone else have this impression?

Over the weekend on KOLA 99.9 FM San Bernardino:
Casey Kasem's American Top 40: The 80s
Week ending October 20, 1984.
American Top 40 Extra: Casey related a story that had happened four and a half years before of a man in Long Island who, at 4 AM one chilly spring morning, started hearing a radio station, but couldn't find out the source. He called the local police about it, but they told him to lie down and "lay off the juice", while the man insisted he was stone-cold sober. As it turns out, it was the man's set of false teeth, combined with metal and saliva, that were acting like a diode, somehow managing to pick up a radio station across the Long Island Sound in Hampton, Connecticut. One of the songs that this man heard coming through those dentures of his was "How Do I Make You?", which was at #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first three weeks that spring.

I didn't hear Linda on Casey this week. I did listen to some of it but I came in too high up on the chart. Casey mentioned there was 8 female solo acts in the top 40where it was and linda was one of them. It must have been "it's so easy" but I don't where it was in the top 40. eddiejinnj

Since Linda was inducted into the RRHOF there has been no shortage of Linda songs on the radio. More and more. I don't think it is my imagination. There was some value to her for that honor as reluctant as she was to care about it. I even hear her recordings on elevators, store sound systems, etc.

It depends on what city you live in, and how good your imagination is (IMHO). Living here in the L.A. area, where she gave so much of her time and her life, I hardly hear her anywhere at all, which is inexcusable.
But I can hear "Livin' On A Prayer" and "Don't Stop Believin'" incessantly.

Very crappy day today...my deceased mom's birthday. Lost my wallet, had to euthanize two of my girls (cats), hernia flared up worse than ever, coyotes showed up at my feral station and some of my long time friends are missing, drove 30 miles for a pet prescription that never got made so on my way home I decided to celebrate the day....Wendy's or Chipotle? Wendy's won out. Walked in and I'll Be Home For Christmas came on. Such clarity and pureness from their speakers with Linda sounding so great. At least one good thing happened.
