Why would anyone want to take pictures at a concert? I'm there to listen to music. It's so annoying to have to deal with morons and their cameras. I learned long ago not to expect civilized, considerate behavior at a rock concert. For me, that's part of the scene. Nothing distracts me from the performance. I have always taken my camera to concerts--unless the announcements (or tickets) specifically say not to. I want to capture the experience, as do many others evidently. Here I am, bathed in blue light at a Bon Jovi concert: Attachments:

Another reason... on stage as the front person.. you need to see the edge of the stage and you need to remember where it is. Youtube is littered with performers losing the edge of the stage. It's not pretty. As venues change.. the stage changes. Some are low- some high but there is always the edge. Stage lights dazzle you but you know when they going to change and rotate and you can look away or close your eyes. You cannot prepare for flash bulbs. Flash bulbs are a burst of light and if you happen to be looking directly there, well you are blinded for about 20 seconds. You have to then not move until you get your sight back. Who would want to tumble into the front row?

Welcome to the forum, Sand man!!!!!! You bring up a good point. Part of rehearsal/concert prep one should map out walking around etc and get feel for stage and where to go and not go. eddiejinnj

Linda describing an early audience in her 1970s OGWT interview.
"It was just a bunch of stoned people trying to make the transition from beatnik to hippie.”

I have two:
1. "Be kind, try hard." To one of her children who was leaving home. She said that she couldn't think of anything else to say. I think it's pretty perfect advice and it runs through my head all the time. Imagine what the world would be like if more people followed it? (Simple Dreams book tour interview with John Rockwell, 92nd Street Y.)
2. On whether to retouch the Hasten Down the Wind cover photo: "Aw, fuck it. I never looked that good a day in my life anyway."

This one is reminiscent of something Scout might say in To Kill a Mockingbird.
“My feeling about school was that it interfered with my reading.”

Linda's salty language again
