I had a feeling that it was recorded much later. They probably worked on the song but maybe they couldn't complete it if Judee wasn't doing well!!! Thanks, rob, for the journal entry info. eddiejinfl

Wow, cool you got to watch it, moky. Am glad Linda is in it as much as she is. Did they show JD's friendship with Sill after breakup as the newest article above says. It would be good history to know especially if she was around when JD and Linda were working.

We were out perusing the flea market and a dealer friend of ours had some dollar cd's (he usually doesn't sell cds much tmk) and I was able to find a promotional copy of Linda's "We Ran" cd. The bottom hinge of the cd jewel case is broken but the cd in perfect shape. I really have to get together my Linda recordings and memorabilia in one area in Florida and one in NJ. Organization is not one of my better suits though I am a perfectionist in many ways. I'd like this for that purpose but also to know how many I have of different cd's and if I have ones that other fans need. Well, I can hope, at least for now lol!!!

MAYBE, one thing that can be said of Capitol re: Linda is that they gave her enough poetic license and time artistically. I guess one big difference between the early scenarios of their respective careers was that Linda did have 2 hits on her group's sophomore album and her solo one. The record company allowed such license as she had commercial potential and hung in there with Linda. eddiejinfl

Also, it depends on when Linda said this. If it is in the historical context such as Pop presents, then her analysis can be perceived as such.

I wonder if the Linda quote is out of context and if so by how much? On the surface, it seems like a somewhat cold "objective" comment on the situation. It is fortunate for Linda that her music had taken root so to speak before she went to Asylum.

Well, I think that Rob's observation that the "Bandit" title is more reflective of the true subject/meaning of the song. I think that they (the NYT) are running scared as far as defamation with printing "even that wretched bastard"; though it was a quote. As far as Linda, her changing the title might have been to confirm/validate Judee's feelings towards the subject of the song and maybe, just maybe, to relieve some guilt on her part (whether justified/unjustified) if she in fact met J.D. at Judee's house.

I STILL can't believe I was the last book she signed after the event in that long line. My lucky day, lol!!! I was just hoping that she could sign her name one time, on occasion such as this boxset. eddiejinfl

I am not contradicting anybody but I guess I am trying to say that I didn't know she was unable to sign her name. Do we know that she can't completely? I guess I just figured that her stamp was used for multiple copies of SD. This seems like it would be an autograph (at best based on what was presented above) only on one boxset. I just hoping for her sake she can at least sign her name still at times when able.

Yes, she said the YNG solo sounded like the Beatles. I always remember thinking I don't hear the Beatles but I thought Linda had more musically refined ears.

Yesterday, we heard on CD 104.9 out of the Port Charlotte area that Linda was coming up next but we left the car before the song came on. The station does play older stuff that other stations don't play. eddiejinfl

I don't have an IG account either and have no interest. I agree, Rob, that the format is not user friendly and all those hashtags are confusing/annoying. My mate only joined FB during the pandemic lockdown as we couldn't go to thrift shops/yard sales and we started going to FB online auctions.

I saw the "Rhythm of the Saints" cd at a yard sale I didn't get it as I was not sure if I had it plus if I'd like it. Now if I see it, I will get it. I remember Hugh Maskela's "Grazing in the Grass". The song is almost too catchy as it is one I will sing in my head for a long time after I hear it.

I guess some have said that her delivery of it caused people to think she may not know the subject of it. I remember as a kid that I was suspect to the meaning of song but Linda does deliver it in such a pretty straight-forward way, it almost comes across too cheery and a quasi-patriotic song on the surface. Randy Newman is known for his irony. eddiejinfl

Those words are not as pronounced as say the word aboard right before, imo. I kind of trail off singing them before starting the chorus. Welcome to the forum, H!!! Are you saying that Linda knew it was about slavery and why do you think she sang it and based on what belief, in your opinion? eddiejinfl

I believe that Rob from NJ (who I miss on the forum) agreed that she did the song (vs it being "Falling Star") at Saratoga Springs Arts Center in the summer of 1983 (probably near when Moky saw her in Boston that year). It was considered the extended or second leg of the GC tour and of course her musical course changed dramatically with the release of "What's New" soon after. Maybe Linda changed the title to reflect what the song is about (a heartbreak song). Not sure why, though, she took out the Jesus line? Maybe, again, to not confuse the real meaning of the song.
