What a wonderful way to honor Linda's devotion to her hometown roots and musical legacy!

Thanks, Pop for the pics (again for the one you sent); it has an inviting facade. I would think the whole family would be there for this one. Plus local friends, old customers etc. They don't exactly state what the new name is but do say it has Linda's name in it. Thanks again. All have a great weekend. eddiejinfl

Is anyone here considering making the pilgrimage to Tucson in order attend the ceremony May 7 ? That would be a fun idea...or perhaps another place to meetup at some point. I wonder how invitations to attend the ceremony will be handled.

Is anyone here considering making the pilgrimage to Tucson in order attend the ceremony May 7 ? Right in time for my bday (5/10) if gas wasn’t so expensive I’d consider the trip to celebrate.

They’ll need a great Linda statue on the grounds and a fabulous mini museum inside.

I don't think that'll happen...unless the media does what it still does too frequently with Linda's last name after her having reached 55 years in the spotlight, and misspells it in their reports.
Still, it is a truly wonderful thing to see Linda's hometown put her name on their main music hall; and if Linda is able to make it back home to see it happen, then really so much the better.

I was just joking around about the whole name thang. I think it is great that they are renaming the Music Hall after her.

I could relate to the first article where she said was 6 and went out on her pony on her own. Not the pony part but the going out at such a young age (maybe like 8 or 9) exploring. eddiejinfl

eddie, I think when Linda was young (and when I was young) and where she lived with everyone knowing the Ronstadt family, it was a different time. And I think Linda had an independent streak from a young age and she was fortunately raised to listen to her own inner voice.

Why did it take them so long?!

Quote by heartbreaker:
My theory is that they probably had wanted to do something like this in honor of their native daughter, but Linda probably demurred from the idea for decades, out of the usual reason: Modesty. In any case, at least it was for a concert hall, a place which you hear actual music, and not a sports arena or a stadium where you can hear the guitar solo from the band that was there a week before still echoing through the rafters.

I am not sure you understood my post, Rick. It is this adventure that we were able to pursue as kids. I said I could relate. My brother, cousin and I used to walk from Bradly Beach through Ocean Grove to Asbury Park, to get to Bradly Beach you had to walk maybe a mile. It was a different time and place as far having a pony and being able to go to the Boardwalk and tie him/her to a pole, lol!!!! I am flattered you think I am from a completely different time than you, fellow Ronstadt fan. eddiejinfl

The Music Hall, where I hope this one has angels in the architecture of sorts, is the most appropriate place to name for her. Are there any stadiums named for musical artists? In NJ, in Monmouth County, they have the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank as he was from there. I saw Linda play there. She said to paraphrase that she didn't know where she was but it seems like a nice town. eddiejinfl

Why did it take them so long?! Without being morbid, I think they realized the time to do such a renaming was when Linda was still able to be in Tucson to attend and receive the honor. I was thinking that people in Tucson for years to come will say, "We're going to The Ronstadt tonight." heartbreaker, maybe for a similar reason that she received the Kennedy Center Honor and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I'm glad Linda is getting her due.

I think I saw a video from a news station in Tucson a couple years ago and it was about the Ronstadt Transit Center being torn down to make room for something else.

Letter to the Editor in the Arizona Daily Star -- Re: the March 19 article "Venue to be renamed for singer Ronstadt."
The recent honor bestowed by the City of Tucson with the renaming of the Music Hall with Linda Ronstadt’s name is long overdue. I have followed her career from way back to the early sixties with the “Stone Poneys,” noting that she has never been held to one role as a “pop” singer. She has done her own thing by adventuring into areas folks in the music industry did not want her to try (i.e., other genres including jazz, Spanish language songs, and acting) excelling in all areas she set out to conquer. If you have not yet seen the recent review of her career it is definitely worth the time to view “Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice,” if you haven't done so already. Congratulations Linda! Be nice to have a Linda museum there. or possibly have her crypt in her own museum or in her Ronstadt family museum as an attraction with her music playing in the background and full wall videos of her performances or even a Linda hologram. Or something like they did for Abe Lincoln at Disney.

There is so much wrong with talking about (1) Linda's crypt and (2) as an "attraction."

A better idea would be to build a man made lake next to the Hall with a replica of the Statue of Liberty. Changes to the Statue would: The statue would be Linda, of course. The number of rays would be changed to equal the number of Grammies that she won. The torch would be changed to a microphone. It would actually work and people could go up and sing, talk or shout into it. Off hours they could pipe "Living in the USA" out to the city.
