I'm charging the camera battery to post photos of the nearby area.. There are 5 houses on our road and actually, we do have many other homes around us in our neighborhood, but being out in the country, most folks have a lot of property so it's really spread out.. I'm just used to a lot of street lights and sidewalks, traffic, which you can hear the main hwy from my house.. more of what i am used to would be downtown astoria neighborhoods/businesses.

I lived in the country when I was younger...didn't really mind as I could crank up the stereo as loud as it would go, and the neighbors were far enough away that they wouldn't ehar or complain about it. The only disadvantages were during severe weather, like when there was a tornado warning, you'd have to go find some place where you could seek out shelter. Or having to stock up on food ahead of a winter storm or not being able to get to your job because a heavy snow had fallen, making the roads impassable.I recall one time the bridge washed out iduring a flash flood. It was the only road to the min highway aqnd into town, and the county commissioner was a real jerk. He refused to fix it and was like, "Tough! We don't have the money to fix it. You guys will just have to wait until we can get the funds to fix it." He found the funds real quick though only after someone had called the tv stations to complain and they showed up to do a story about it. It's funny how a llittle bad press can make you do things you say you don't have the money to do.

I know Slide, it has it's disadvantages.. I don't think where I live is that remote but compared to where I am from it really is. Anyway, this is the little road I walk to get the mail.. it doesn't look bad now but at night you can cut the darkness with a knife and at that particular time all the porch lights were off. 2 of my neighbors are elderly and in bed by 8 or 9. lol.

I forgot what green was until I saw that photo.
Beware the woods!
And why is everything so wet?

Nice looking area you live in, Dianna. I wouldn't mind the darkness as on a clear night, you can see thousands of stars in the sky at night, the same for which you can't see in the city. But, I can also see why one might get spooked by that kind of darkness. But, I live in a relatively quiet town in a mostly quiet neighborhood and because I've sometimes left out from home or come home between midnight and five of the morning, I've had those spooked moments. My hair has literally stood up, and anytime I got that feeling, I got to the car or back into the house as fast as possible. Maybe it's a sixth sense at work?

ha ha. The house is very lively inside. Today I went into town to buy a Christmas Tree. I had to laugh, I picked out a nice tree, the man who sold it to me pointed to the really expensive ones and said, those will last longer than these. I replied, come on, I came from practically the desert and even those trees last until after the 1st. some people. lol

He also sounds like he could be a used car salesman!

It worked! That's the most snow I've seen in decades. You can even hear it hitting the surfaces with dogs barking in the background.

this would be her first snow then? dogs usually love snow unlike cats who need to be carried "over" it from place to place.

yes, it is for all 3 girls. my poodle who is the oldest 6 yrs, hates being outside in the wet and worse the snow. ruby, my pitbull and abbey love it. If you notice we don't have an area to contain our dogs, it's difficult because in back there are stables and ruby has wandered off real fast.. and I caught her chasing the horses. I can't risk an angry stable owner doing something stupid. so each time I let her out I follow her, which sucks because of the weather. we did get an est for a fence but the guy never came back. so back to square 1. we might have to put it up ourselves if we can't find somebody and brian doesn't have a lot of time for that. calif it's easier to get help like that.

The ice box is coming back down this way too. It had been hovering at 75 degrees the last two days. Tomorrow, we may not even break 55; it'll be windy, cold, and wet, with maybe even a few snow flakes falling in the foothills.

Only a high of 50 degrees in the Arizona desert on Friday. I think I prefer it to 120 degrees or the usual low of 105 in my house last summer. (I need a new ac unit) Overall however I do not like cold weather at all. Don't care for the rain either because that is all it did where I grew up on LINY.
Where is that perfect place?

I'm in NW OH and it's going to be brutally (or as my one friend said way back when--brutaler!) cold the next few days starting today with the temperatures reaching no higher than mid-teens. Throw in some gusty winds and the wind chill is below zero. The nights especially will be very cold!
I'm not a winter person, but I do run outdoors during this season for there is nothing like running in the snow. However, even this is too cold to venture/run out in.

It's not so much the snow and cold temps as it is the wind that makes it worse. Hard enough running on windy days, but on cold days like these, not worth it.

Yes, our summers can be quite hot. Last summer we had a record number of days in the 90's as well as some over 100. Major drought too, and with the few storms we did have, they were doozies--knocking trees, wires down. BTW, you'll be glad to know, it was 3 degrees this morning with a wind chill of -15. Great conditions to brush the car off the snow before heading to work.

I was talking with a guy last night in Minnesota (as part of my job) and he was telling me it was about 35 below zero! I got cold just thinking about that one. But, I was kind of curious as I didn't think it was that cold across any of the northern US, so I googled the temperatures in Minnesota. It was below zero all right, but nowhere near 35 below zero. More like 10 below zero. But, to be fair to the guy I was talking to, when you're in that kind of temperature, it doesn't matter whether it's -10 or -35. Below zero temperatures of any kind are incredibly cold.

Slide, I think you mentioned you are in Oklahoma. hope you are safe. don't know how close you are to the tornadoes. Yes, I spent the first winter /spring away from so ca and I do miss the year round sunshine, although our summers here are beautiful and better than so ca.. it didn't get horribly cold here, maybe the lowest, the high 20's but maintained 30's 40's, which isn't bad.. We're thinking about renting the house out through an agent and going back to cali.. until we reach retirement age.. but I'm not sure because I don't like the fact being out in the woods when we're older.. when you're in a big city, you can be alone but you're not really alone.. you feel safer and there is more help if that makes sense
