just found this from a 2017 ? interview re: BB www.popmatters.com/back-to-blue-bayou-an-interview-with-linda-ronstadt-2495378533.html?rebelltitem=1#rebelltitem1Working with engineer Val Garay, Peter Asher gathered the band at Sound Factory in LA. "We'd gotten a little bit tighter," says Ronstadt, noting how her rapport with Asher had evolved since Heart Like a Wheel. "Peter was very good at hearing little inner parts of music. He didn't like to overdub vocals. I liked to overdub vocals, but we hadn't worked a method for it particularly, so a lot of those vocals are live." Asher's approach to producing Ronstadt would craft one of the era's most evocative portraits of Southern California pop-rock, winning him "Producer of the Year" at the Grammy Awards for his work on Simple Dreams and James Taylor's J.T. (1977) album

Thanks musedeva for that excellent interview. I've been reading about that Japan performance of "Sorrow Lives Here" since the 1980 Playboy interview--so hope that it will be released someday:
PLAYBOY: Have you ever sung anything you felt was perfect? RONSTADT: I sang Sorrow Lives Here in Tokyo once and I thought it was perfect. I got this reading on this one line exactly the way I wanted to do it. I remember that night.

Wonder if it is her performance at Budhokan?

I think that's it: www.popmatters.com/back-to-blue-bayou-an-interview-with-linda-ronstadt-2495378533.html?rebelltitem=1#rebelltitem1"I found a live version at the Buduokan in Japan (1979) that was the best version," she says. "It's better than the record. When I was recording, I was still sort of feeling my way through songs. It wasn't until I recorded them and then worked them out on stage that I got really comfortable with songs." Thank you so much, the sound on this is excellent. Had no idea that she ever did "My Blue Tears" live before the "Trio" album came out. I always thought that in the Rolling Stone interview October 19, 1978, she was talking about "My Blue Tears" here: "We got a couple of things that are just lovely. One particular thing just turned out gorgeous, just the three of us with an acoustic guitar and God, it just killed us when we heard it." I love the Hollywood album and so much appreciate all the work that Linda and John Boylan put into her first official live release (not counting "FM" and the tracks on "Linda Ronstadt" 1972) but hearing the Japan recording, and reading today about Dylan's massive "Rolling Thunder" box, hard not to think how much more live Linda is out there (and how much her fans would treasure it). Casting a vote here for an official "Linda Live Bootleg" multi-volume series.
