Everyone on this website probably thinks they have some insight into Linda's personality (myself included), so I am always reminded of the following words in the song "You Tell Me That I’m Falling Down" from "Prisoner in Disguise"
"I am exactly what I am, And not the way you'd like to see me be."
Sort of Zen-like.

Some more of my favorite non-hit album tracks:
"The Only Mama That'll Walk The Line" and "Break My Mind", from Hand Sown, Home Grown--both great examples (even if Linda won't admit to them) of Linda's approach to honky-tonk C&W/rock at the very start of her career.
"Birds", from Linda Ronstadt--a truly heartfelt country-rock version of one of three songs Linda covered off of Neil Young's 1970 album After The Gold Rush, recorded live at the Troubadour with three of the soon-to-be Eagles.
"The Fast One", from Don't Cry Now--Linda giving her good friend J.D. Souther's songwriting acumen a honky-tonk C&W/rock treatment here.
"Willing", from Heart Like A Wheel--I don't think any other female artist (and yes, this includes Miranda Lambert) could ever have been as convincing as Linda is doing this truck driver anthem by Lowell George.

Yes, Birds is a really good one, too bad they never play it on the radio.

And it is from one of the most perfect albums ever produced. The sheer crispness of Linda's voice is worth the price. If you've never listened with headphones do it.

Give one heart from Hasten Down the Wind is another great underrated one. Not her usual style but she does Reggae really well, she could sing any kind of music perfectly.

I listened on headphones to her self-titled album on my ipod (I never ended up using it for too long) as a passenger going up the GSP and I remember this album is so outstanding and the sound through headphone incredible. eddiejinfl
PS: Thanks, Rob, so much for putting up with me picking picture and creating my own avatar for this site. There is another shot same session I wanted to find to compare and then decide but this is the only one out of hundreds of Linda pics from that session (outfit) that we could find.

Some more:
"Lo Siento Mi Vida"--from Hasten Down The Wind, the first flaring of Linda integrating her Mexican heritage onto her records (and one example of why I wish she had done a whole album that mixed all three styles [country, rock, and Mexicana])
"The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress"--from Get Closer, her first cover of a Jimmy Webb song (whose title is taken from a 1966 novel by sci-fi writing legend Robert Heinlein)
"Mr. Radio"--from Get Closer, her ode to having the radio as a close companion during her childhood (it was later covered by mega-fan Trisha Yearwood on her 1993 album The Song Remembers When)
"He Was Mine"--from Western Wall, an album that too many critics and audiences thought was just an Emmylou solo album with Linda tagging along. This was perhaps Linda's last flaring of her country-rock acumen anywhere (and why it wasn't released as a single is anyone's guess)

I particularly like the line "the chickens might fall to th Fox-Mr. Radio what will you do about that" It reminds me of leaving the radio playing all night in the barn to keep the thoroughbreds calm. Also where did anyone get the Idea that Western Wall was an exclusively ELH effort? One listen will disabuse that notion. I submit "Across the Border" for consideration. Critics can be very odd. P.S. like "He Was Mine" also.

This thread is a challenge, but here goes...
HSHG "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight". Linda sings this just right, sounding a little boozy/sleepy. "A Number and a Name". Sung feelingly.
SP "Will You Love Me Tomorrow". Not so shrill as The Shirelles, but with feeling. "He Dark The Sun" a tune that has grown on me, with early Linda. Has a dark undertone
LR "In My Reply", good irony from young Linda. "Faithful", another song with more poignancy from a female singing it. "I Still Miss Someone".Forever Crystal Gayle's version is my favourite, but Linda is more in Johnny Cash's vein I think as more soulful.
Of that era; Linda's duet with Johnny Cash "I Never Shall Marry", "The First Cut Is The Deepest", "She's A Very Lovely Woman" and "Carnival Bear".

DCN "Colorado" which is as poignant as ".....Mendovcino" for me. "Desperado", but was it a hit or not?
all the rest except "Silver Threads", which misses out the most important verse (and has too much ear splitting steel guitar);
I grew up in faded gingham Where love is a sacred thing You grew up in silk and satin Where love’s a passing game I know now you never loved me And I know I was a fool To think your pride would let you Live by the Golden Rule.

HLAW endeared itself to me wholly from its title song, but my 2 favourite non-hit tracks are "Dark End Of The Street" and "Keep Me From Blowing Away".
PID "Hey Mister...Jukebox", so personal for Linda I think. "Many Rivers.." another great song of longing. "You Tell Me That I'm Falling Down" my #1 for PID "Silver Blue" perfect last track. "Prisoner in Disguise" if the song was a non-hit.

I really like this one from Winter Light (Heartbeats Accelerating.) The young woman in the video reminds me a little bit of Meghan Markle.. Watching this video and having seen Linda's Tucson home featured in Architectural Digest 2004, I wonder if parts of the video were shot inside Linda's old Tucson home. Very Pretty. Love the old wind up clocks.
