Both Hollywood and the world of classical music are in mourning today, as a titan in both areas has passed on. Andre Previn, whose career including more than a few film scores and many great conducting stints, including L.A. (1985-1989) and with the London Symphony Orchestra in the 1970s, died at his home in New York today less than two months short of his 90th birthday: www.nytimes.com/2019/02/28/obituaries/andre-previn-dead.html

More of Previn's genius, this time on the conductor's podium:
Tchaikovsky: "Waltz Of The Flowers", from Act 2 of "Nutcracker" (London Symphony Orchestra) (1972):
One of the highpoints of Previn's time as the L.A. Philharmonic's music director was this 1987 recording of the very thorny Symphony No. 6 of Sergei Prokofiev, a work from 1946-47 that got the composer in serious hot water with the tin-eared Soviet leader Joseph Stalin:
I: Allegro Moderato
II: Largo
III: Vivace
