Probably not the best thread to quibble but what was Cry Like A Rainstorm? Chopped liver? We Ran? more chopped liver? The Waiting? veal cutlet? Otherwise a nice review.

Cry like a rainstorm was an excellent album but I think it was considered more easy listening/adult contemporary than rock. Feels like home had some good country rock songs. I love how she sings so many different styles of music equally well. Few, if any other singers have mastered so many music styles.

To set the picture straight, it may be gilding the lily to say that she abandoned the rock genre totally, but what is a known fact is that she never had anything resembling a true commercial success after Cry Like A Rainstorm, even though a lot of what she did was every bit as artistically fine as anything she had ever done. So given this, it is easy, maybe too easy, for reviewers and critics to say that Linda got overlooked and somehow almost totally forgotten for years.

How TIGHT! why wouldn't vocal afficianandos buy BOTH??!!
How can you say "......these two divergences from the predictable aren’t enough" ...AFTER you rally about how GREAT she is!!??
"That’s because there isn’t anything unique about these singers. They are interchangeable.
Now think back to a Linda Ronstadt song—any Linda Ronstadt song. What your mind hears first and foremost is that voice: its power, its richness, its range. Next you hear the delivery, often highlighted by softly caressed verses segueing into grittily belted choruses.

I do think that these kinds of criticisms are ticky-tack in nature, and are only to be expected, though that doesn't mean they don't drive people a little batty.
As for the "interchangeable" singers (Taylor; Demi; Selena; Katy)--well, the other thing these "girls" have in common, in my opinion, is that they each seem to rely more or less on gimmicks of various kinds, whether in the studio or on the stage. I don't think Linda ever pretended that she was all that much of an "entertainer"; she always saw herself as a singer, and nothing else. Add to that, of course, the fact that she was always very shy and unassuming, and she didn't believe in using gimmicks and tropes. But the thing about all of that, when combined with her natural vocal range and control, is that it was always real, hence the kind of entertainment that was believable.

Whoever wrote that article didn't do their research. They said she hasn't performed in nearly 20 years, but her last live show was in 2009.

I don't think too many writers do much of any research anymore, so unfortunately this doesn't come as a surprise to me. The worst and most egregious error when it comes to Linda is that too many writers spell her last name wrong...as in inserting a D betwenn RON and STADT. Things like this should drive people nuts, and should not be tolerated.

Could it be that she gets overlooked because there is a concerted effort by some powerful people in the industry to erase her from rock history?

Maybe this combination of Live From Hollywood, the Kennedy Center honors, and the documentary film will go a long way to reversing this horrible situation.
