This really hits close to home for us because of what he and Linda accomplished with "Somewhere Out There". But even beyond that, he had a huge career on his own, plus his two duets with Patti Austin. To lose a talent like his reminds us not only of how good he was, but also how overtly mediocre a lot of today's R&B music is (IMHO).

This was quite a shock to me, as I just found out here. James Ingram just had a totally unique voice...it was powerful, it was soulful. I loved his work with Quincy Jones. "Just Once" was his debut single in 1981 as I recall. Although the single was on Jones' album and was credited to him. I remember it was on one of those K-Tel records my brother had. In fact he still has that record. "One Hundred Ways" was a big hit for him also in early 1982. Then he had another hit in 1983 with his duet with Michael McDonald, "Yah Mo Be There," produced by Quincy Jones, and the #1 duet with Patti Austin, "Baby, Come to Me." And of course, his duet with Linda on "Somewhere Out There" in 1986-87 is one of my favorites. The song should've been #1 but stalled at #2. Could've been Linda's second #1 hit. Their voices blended so well together. It's a shame that they didn't work together more. This is also particularly sad because of the fact that Linda can no longer sing. I'm sure she has heard about his death. I wonder if she will make a statement. He will truly be missed. Another music legend taken from us way too soon. RIP James.
