Okay, as promised I have a short review of the DVD Live At The Summit which arrived in the post today from here:
Package: pretty good, professionally done but with screen shots from the show which are quite low res and so makes it look more home-spun. No track listing on sleeve.
DVD: Chapters / songs which is always good
Bottom left corner of screen shows 'The Summit' all through, probably hiding where the timing indicator was.
In between songs there is a frozen image of Linda from the previous song which isn't always flattering, but it works.
The lines on the picture, as indicated in the dvd description: yes, annoying but actually not too bad, worse in places but often not there, never totally wipes out the picture, just flashes.
The start of the concert jumps around a bit. The picture often dissolves into black at the beginning and end of song.
I haven't watched all the show yet, it is fine on my tv, as good a quality as any of the 76/77 DVDs around, I'd give it a strong 8 out of 10, better on pc reduced to a smaller picture.
I have taken a good audio rip - that's the good thing about a dvd, I love to get the audio too. This one, again, stands up to others from the time.
Linda looks fabulous in an oriental blue satin dress and is having fun. I think she catches an insect in her mouth at one stage :-) I love the short hair look, she looks more focused and confident.
The set list is just brilliant, I probably couldn't choose a better one from this time.
Usual suspects in the band including Waddy up front playing superbly.
A great surprise to find David Sanborn on stage for 3 or 4 tracks, and including a rocking solo in That'll Be The Day.
Really looking forward to watching it all.
All in all, well worth the money, took about 7 days to get to the UK which is very acceptable, no complaints at all. Very very happy, it's a great addition to the collection. Rare and, imho, excellent quality.
Update...watching more of the show and I would say there is more affected by the lines across the screen than I suggested above although it does come clear in places, for instance just watching Someone To Lay Down Beside Me and it's totally clear. Because of the lines interference situation I may downgrade my rating as 7 out of 10... but still without doubt worth having.
Back In The USA ends the show really well... the band work out with great energy and work up a frenzy, Linda obviously loving it. Her signing off at the end of the show is really sweet.
Rambling now... never noticed before how much Waddy's animated movements are similar to Jimmy Page when in full flight...
