Or it was rejected for some reason. On that, I could see it being rejected as it sounded like something straight out of the 1940s or early 1950s. In a way, it almost sounds like Linda and Emmylou imitating the Davis sisters on "I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know."

Good question. I don't think it was an informal recording. Sounds too professional. I am only guessing but I think it happens a lot. Many songs get recorded and decided upon as to whether there is a fit for the particular concept of the album.
This is another I wondered about. Not a duet but was left off of Get Closer.

Here is what the account holder is calling a processed "stereo" version of this song -- Linda Ronstadt & Hoyt Axton - Lion in the Winter About this video: "Hoyt Axton Country Western Boogie Woogie Gospel Rock and Roll Hour." Comedy is interspersed with music in a show featuring Hoyt Axton as the host and performers Linda Ronstadt, Rita Coolidge, Arlo Guthrie, Tanya Tucker, Buffy Sainte-Marie and La Costa. Also: cameo appearances by Kris Kristofferson and Paul Williams. Musical highlights include "Thank You Lord" "Speed Trap" "Lion in Winter" (Hoyt); "When Will I Be Loved?" (Linda); "Star" (Rita); "Won't Be Long" (Arlo); "Best of My Love" (Tanya); "He Took Me for a Ride" (La Costa). (60 min.) This US TV special was hosted by American singer-songwriter Hoyt Wayne Axton, it was packed with great artists like Rita Coolidge, Doug Dilliard, Arlo Guthrie, Loggins & Messina, Harry Nilsson, Charlie Rich, Linda Ronstadt, Buffy St. Marie, Ringo Starr, LaCosta and Tonya Tucker. At the very end all guests and other celebrities [for example Micky Dolenz, Keith Moon, Paul Williams, Kris Kristofferson] gathered on stage to sing Ringo's current hit No, No, Song. The 2 minute segment shows Hoyt doing the introduction of the cast party and thanking the lord for the pennies [the No, No, Song was written by Hoyt Axton]. Ringo sporting a full beard, blue jeans, blue jacket and red shirt starts singing the song together with Hoyt; at the beginning they do a few dance steps. The camera captures some of other guests as they join the performance. The show was aired by NBC in March 1975.
