Given the kind of people who are (mis)managing this country of ours, I would have to say that it's a good thing to hear how people took frequently to the streets to voice their grievances and their outrages, though I kind of wish they did it the previous year so that we wouldn't be dealing with the p***ygrabber-in-chief.
If there was an event that brought a lot of people together, it was the total solar eclipse of August 21, which (one would hope) made people realize that there are things in this life, and in this universe, that are infinitely greater than ourselves.

Let's not forget Chanukah of which we are in the final 24 hours for the year...
I almost plotzed when I found out all those iconic Christmas songs were written by Irving Berlin, who was Jewish!
Christmas night we’re just gonna follow the stereotype and go out with the whole mishpucha for Chinese food. Earlier, my son Frank and I were sent by my wife Jane to buy a fruit cake. She didn't say which size fruitcake to get. They all look the same to me anyways. This whole thing is giving me shpilkes so I told Frank to just pick one and let's go already. But no, he had to get this Christmas trinket before leaving. Frank handed me a holiday wish list with like 40 things on it? Frank I said, you already have a million tchatchkes lying around your room that you never even touch. And what's with this fakakta Elf on a Shelf thing? It's kinda creepy, right? And you have to name it? What's next? Clothe and bathe it too? My God, it's like a Tamagotchitoy all over again, just with rosy cheeks and fewer feedings.
Look, I love a good Christmas lights display with elves but you gotta be a bit meshugunnah to sync the whole thing to Skrillex. It was bad enough that Frank's new girlfriend showed up at the holiday party in some ridiculous furry-looking shmata. Seriously, I didn't even know if it was dead or alive. She had a lot of chutzpah even showing up at that party in the first place! So we almost made it out of the mall in an hour, but got stuck behind this alter kocker who kept pumping her brakes the whole way down the parking deck. Then I felt awful when I realized it was my bubbe.
Finally made it home and I put down that half-eaten candy cane for just, like, 20 seconds and now I have all this sticky schmutz all over my desk. I need some miracle to clean it up. But the real Christmas miracle? That that sled ever takes off, what with all that chazerai weighing it down. All those naughty boys and girls? Getting bupkes this year. Oy vay.
oh, this is not Irving Berlin but this is my favorite Christmas song. So it's the last song on this list not to get mishpucha. political or anything. Just click the link and enjoy.

This “Bernstein” character joined yesterday and seems to be gunning for a writing gig on “Rhoda.”
Are we being punk’d?

Is Rhoda still on tv? (haven't watched since 2004)

I know you have to be talking whether reruns are on now, correct? I haven't seen "Rhoda" since longer than that ago. Good memory that you remember the year you last saw it unless it has significance to you and then it is easier to remember. I can tell you where I was when Elvis (I was a teenager), John Lennon (driving age) and Princess Diana (I was in my 30's) when I heard they passed. eddiejinnj

As far as The Christmas Spirit songs, I thought Linda was heard clearer in the first song but was pleased with her upfront harmony vocals on "Will You Still Believe in Me". I really like that song. I must have heard it before but maybe not. It always amazes me the plethora of work Linda did. Love her tone and power on the second song. I also noticed Henry Dilitz name as part of the credits for this second song. He is the photographer that did Linda's shots on the curb in her "Betsy" dress. Also, Gram Parsons is on it. Wonder if they were all there for the recording? It would seem she knew Gram before he was with Emmylou. Not sure what year they got together. eddiejinnj

Quote by eddieinnj re. Gram and Linda:
I believe that Linda first knew Gram from his short stint in the Byrds, and then him and Chris Hillman forming the Flying Burrito Brothers; this would have been during the summer of 1968. Gram, I believe, met Emmylou at a D.C. nightclub (the Cellar Door, perhaps?) in late 1971; and in Houston in early 1973, Gram introduced Emmy to Linda (write this all down, there will be a test [LOL]).

I am an alter kocker, too. It just seems odd that someone joins Dec. 20, and decides to use whatever basic Yiddish there is. My next-door neighbors were Jewish and I used to go to services with them as well as Israeli folk dancing. I do know quite a bit of Yiddishisms. It just seems as if some young kid thought it was amusing (Do they think they are funny? ) to join this Forum and make a couple posts peppering them with the terms they learned watching “The Nanny.”

BIG Fan of this one by Emmylou Harris - Light of the Stable - with Linda, Dolly Parton & Neil Young helping on the background vocals. You can really hear Linda's beautiful wail on this one.

Well, Christmas 2017 is just about over at least in my part of the world. Thought I would leave with the following overlooked Christmas song Scarlet Ribbons from Gene Vincent and Linda Ronstadt.
"Scarlet Ribbons (For Her Hair)" is a popular song. The music was written by Evelyn Danzig and the lyrics by Jack Segal. The song has become a standard with many recorded versions and has appeared on several Christmas albums. It was written in only 15 minutes in 1949 at Danzig's home in Port Washington, New York after she invited lyricist Segal to hear her music. The song tells a miraculous tale: a father hears his little girl pray before she goes to bed for "scarlet ribbons for her hair". It is late, no stores are open in their town, nor is there anywhere the father can obtain the ribbons so he is distraught throughout the night. At dawn he again peeps in and is amazed to see beautiful "scarlet ribbons" in "gay profusion lying there." He says that if he lives to be a hundred, he will never know from where the ribbons came.
I peeked in to say goodnight, That's when I saw my little girl on her knees in prayer. She said, "And God for me just give me some scarlet ribbons, Scarlet ribbons for my hair."
Now all the stores were closed and shuttered, And all the streets as I walked them were dark, were dark and bare. In our town, there were no scarlet ribbons, Lord I couldn't buy scarlet ribbons any, anywhere.
Came those ribbons scarlet ribbons came those ribbons for her hair Came those ribbons scarlet ribbons came those ribbons for her hair
And then they came Lord I know not from where But if I live I will never know from where
Came those ribbons scarlet ribbons came those ribbons for her hair Came those ribbons scarlet ribbons came those ribbons for her hair
