The deception here is that it is the Nominating Board who is really deciding who they want in. Ronstadt fans knew that is why she was kept out for so long because of the heavy hand of Rolling Stone Magazine especially one Dave Marsh and one Jann Wenner. Just like politics. We are only given certain choices and somehow think it is a democracy when we vote.
Glad Nina Simone and the Moody Blues are in but not sure how the former is even considered as are so many others that got in. The whole thing is bizarre.

Quote by ronstadtfanaz:
With respect to Nina, I think some of it had to do with her political activism, which is a pretty big deal (Joan Baez got in last year, and she's generally considered to be a folk music icon, but also an activist par excellence). I think Nina's only Top 40 hit was "I Loves You Porgy" (from Gershwin's Porgy And Bess), but that activism was an important factor.
And it should be said that the Moody Blues were never any critics' favorite during the period when they were at their peak, in the early 70s ("Nights In White Satin"; "I'm Just A Singer [In A Rock And Roll Band]"), because their classically-slanted progressive rock sound was considered...so help me, I'm going to use this word..."pretentious".
As you've said, it's all about hypocritical music critics' politics of the worst kind, especially in a year when the Moody Blues and Nina Simone get in, so too does a half-a**ed arena rock outfit like Bon Jovi.
